    Optimization of sample preparation and green color imaging using the mNeonGreen fluorescent protein in bacterial cells for photoactivated localization microscopy.

    mNeonGreen fluorescent protein is capable of photo-switching, hence in principle applicable for super-resolution imaging. However, difficult-to-control blinking kinetics that lead to simultaneous emission of multiple nearby mNeonGreen molecules impedes its use for PALM. Here, we determined the on- and off- switching rate and the influence of illumination power on the simultaneous emission. Increasing illumination power reduces the probability of simultaneous emission, but not enough to generate high quality PALM images. Therefore, we introduce a simple data post-processing step that uses temporal and spatial information of molecule localizations to further reduce artifacts arising from simultaneous emission of nearby emitters. We also systematically evaluated various sample preparation steps to establish an optimized protocol to preserve cellular morphology and fluorescence signal. In summary, we propose a workflow for super-resolution imaging with mNeonGreen based on optimization of sample preparation, data acquisition and simple post-acquisition data processing. Application of our protocol enabled us to resolve the expected double band of bacterial cell division protein DivIVA, and to visualize that the chromosome organization protein ParB organized into sub-clusters instead of the typically observed diffraction-limited foci. We expect that our workflow allows a broad use of mNeonGreen for super-resolution microscopy, which is so far difficult to achieve

    REVAMPING OF THE NO. 2-3 SLAB CASTER AT POSCO GWANGYANG: DESIGN, START-UP AND INITIAL OPERATION RESULTS

    One of the purposes of revamping the No. 2-3 caster was to have annual production capacity of 3.5 milliontonnes per year for automotive application. Under a given caster length of 47m, the basic requirement underthis value is to achieve 2.7 m/min casting speed for 250mm x 1600mm in slab section. In order to ensurestable operation for this high casting speed, many technologies were newly developed and implementedduring the revamping process. The roller geometry was designed to minimize mould level huntingdue to unsteady bulging. The concept of Intensive secondary cooling was applied to shorten crater endposition as well as to decrease corner transverse cracking by applying the concepts of surface structurecontrol [1]. A movable multi-mode electromagnetic system was designed to control mould flow tomeet diverse operation conditions. An Automatic Ar control system was applied at the caster nozzleto minimize nozzle clogging. This caster was started in Nov. 2007 and went up to 2.7m/min incasting speed very quickly. This paper discusses the behaviour of mould level, mould surface flow andsecondary cooling temperature to the directions of slab width and thickness experienced during casting speedincrease and in particular at 2.7m/min maximum casting speed.     Antiflow of kaons in relativistic heavy ion collisions

    We compare relativistic transport model calculations to recent data on the sideward flow of neutral strange K^0_s mesons for Au+Au collisions at 6 AGeV. A soft nuclear equation of state is found to describe very well the positive proton flow data measured in the same experiment. In the absence of kaon potential, the K^0 flow pattern is similar to that of protons. The kaon flow becomes negative if a repulsive kaon potential determined from the impulse approximation is introduced. However, this potential underestimates the data which exhibits larger antiflow. An excellent agreement with the data is obtained when a relativistic scalar-vector kaon potential, that has stronger density dependence, is used. We further find that the transverse momentum dependence of directed and elliptic flow is quite sensitive to the kaon potential in dense matter.Comment: 5 pages, Revtex, 4 figure

    Search for sterile neutrino oscillation using RENO and NEOS data

    We present a reactor model independent search for sterile neutrino oscillation using 2\,509\,days of RENO near detector data and 180 days of NEOS data. The reactor related systematic uncertainties are significantly suppressed as both detectors are located at the same reactor complex of Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant. The search is performed by electron antineutrino\,(νe\overline{\nu}_e) disappearance between six reactors and two detectors with baselines of 294\,m\,(RENO) and 24\,m\,(NEOS). A spectral comparison of the NEOS prompt-energy spectrum with a no-oscillation prediction from the RENO measurement can explore reactor νe\overline{\nu}_e oscillations to sterile neutrino. Based on the comparison, we obtain a 95\% C.L. excluded region of 0.1<Δm412<70.1<|\Delta m_{41}^2|<7\,eV2^2. We also obtain a 68\% C.L. allowed region with the best fit of Δm412=2.41±0.03|\Delta m_{41}^2|=2.41\,\pm\,0.03\,\,eV2^2 and sin22θ14\sin^2 2\theta_{14}=0.08±\,\pm\,0.03 with a p-value of 8.2\%. Comparisons of obtained reactor antineutrino spectra at reactor sources are made among RENO, NEOS, and Daya Bay to find a possible spectral variation.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures: This manuscript has been significantly revised by the joint reanalysis by RENO and NEOS Collaborations.     Anomaly analysis of Hawking radiation from Kaluza-Klein black hole with squashed horizon

    Considering gravitational and gauge anomalies at the horizon, a new method that to derive Hawking radiations from black holes has been developed by Wilczek et al. In this paper, we apply this method to non-rotating and rotating Kaluza-Klein black holes with squashed horizon, respectively. For the rotating case, we found that, after the dimensional reduction, an effective U(1) gauge field is generated by an angular isometry. The results show that the gauge current and energy-momentum tensor fluxes are exactly equivalent to Hawking radiation from the event horizon.Comment: 15 pages, no figures, the improved version, accepted by Eur.     This paper describes the liquid scintillator veto system for the COSINE-100 dark matter experiment and its performance. The COSINE-100 detector consists of eight NaI(Tl) crystals immersed in 2200 L of linear alkylbenzene-based liquid scintillator. The liquid scintillator tags between 65 and 75% of the internal 40K background in the 2–6 keV energy region. We also describe the background model for the liquid scintillator, which is primarily used to assess its energy calibration and threshold
