    Radiation effects in GaAs AMOS solar cells

    The results of radiation damage produced in AMOS (Antireflecting-Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) cells with Sb2O3 interfacial oxide layers by 1-MeV electrons are presented. The degradation properties of the cells as a function of irradiation fluences were correlated with the changes in their spectral response, C-V, dark forward, and light I-V characteristics. The active n-type GaAs layers were grown by the OM-CVD technique, using sulfur doping in the range between 3 x 10 to the 15th power and 7 x 10 to the 16th power/cu cm. At a fluence of 10 to the 16th power e/sq cm, the low-doped samples showed I sub sc degradation of 8% and V sub oc degradation of 8%. The high-doped samples showed I sub sc and V sub oc degradation of 32% and 1%, respectively, while the fill factor remained relatively unchanged for both. AMOS cells with water vapor-grown interfacial layers showed no significant change in V sub oc

    Solutions of Conformal Turbulence on a Half Plane

    Exact solutions of conformal turbulence restricted on a upper half plane are obtained. We show that the inertial range of homogeneous and isotropic turbulence with constant enstrophy flux develops in a distant region from the boundary. Thus in the presence of an anisotropic boundary, these exact solutions of turbulence generalize Kolmogorov's solution consistently and differ from the Polyakov's bulk case which requires a fine tunning of coefficients. The simplest solution in our case is given by the minimal model of p=2,q=33p=2, q=33 and moreover we find a fixed point of solutions when p,qp,q become large.Comment: 10pages, KHTP-93-07, SNUCTP-93-3

    Tunneling anisotropic magnetoresistance in multilayer-(Co/Pt)/AlOx/Pt structures

    We report observations of tunneling anisotropic magnetoresitance (TAMR) in vertical tunnel devices with a ferromagnetic multilayer-(Co/Pt) electrode and a non-magnetic Pt counter-electrode separated by an AlOx barrier. In stacks with the ferromagnetic electrode terminated by a Co film the TAMR magnitude saturates at 0.15% beyond which it shows only weak dependence on the magnetic field strength, bias voltage, and temperature. For ferromagnetic electrodes terminated by two monolayers of Pt we observe order(s) of magnitude enhancement of the TAMR and a strong dependence on field, temperature and bias.     Semi-automatic segmentation and surface reconstruction of computed tomography images by using rotoscoping and warping techniques

    Background: Quick and large-scale segmentation along with three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction is necessary to make precise 3D musculoskeletal models for surface anatomy education, palpation training, medical communication, morphology research, and virtual surgery simulation. However, automatic segmentation of the skin and muscles remain undeveloped. Materials and methods: Therefore, in this study, we developed workflows for semi-automatic segmentation and surface reconstruction, using rotoscoping and warping techniques. Results: The techniques were applied to multi detector computed tomography images, which were optimised to quickly generate surface models of the skin and the anatomical structures underlying the fat tissue. Conclusions: The workflows developed in this study are expected to enable researchers to create segmented images and optimised surface models from any set of serially sectioned images quickly and conveniently. Moreover, these optimised surface models can easily be modified for further application or educational use

    Basic study on the estimating the value of sand beach using amenities replace

    The sand beach along the east coast of Korea offers beautiful scenery with high-quality sand for leisure, and is also famous for white-sand and pine-trees both of which are important scenic resources. Furthermore, the sand beach helps to maintain natural environment of the coastal area and has the function of a disaster prevention system against high waves. There are two major value evaluation methods, Travel Cost Method and Contingent Valuation Method, to assess the value of sand beach. Contingent Valuation Method is considered to be more appropriate for simultaneous evaluation on the usefulness and the uselessness of the beach. But in order to apply Contingent Valuation Method to coastal sand beach evaluation, close examination and investigation on the potential bias, such as on questionnaires, surveys and replies are required. In this study, the characteristic of amenities which sand beach visitors prefer the most is investigated, in prior to evaluating the usability of the beach measured by contingent valuation method. The characteristic of amenity of major sand beaches on the east coast of Korea is studied and compared by diverse value evaluation methods

    Geographic and Age-Based Variations in Medicare Reimbursement Among ASSH Members.

    Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate how American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) members\u27 Medicare reimbursement depends on their geographical location and number of years in practice. Methods: Demographic data for surgeons who were active members of the ASSH in 2012 were obtained using information publicly available through the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Hand-surgeons-per-capita and average reimbursement per surgeon were calculated for each state. Regression analysis was performed to determine a relationship between (1) each state\u27s average reimbursement versus the number of ASSH members in that state, (2) average reimbursement versus number of hand surgeons per capita, and (3) total reimbursement from Medicare versus number of years in practice. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to detect a difference in reimbursement based on categorical range of years as an ASSH member. Results: A total of 1667 ASSH members satisfied inclusion in this study. Although there was significant variation among states\u27 average reimbursement, reimbursement was not significantly correlated with the state\u27s hand surgeons per capita or total number of hand surgeons in that given state. Correlation between years as an ASSH member and average reimbursement was significant but non-linear; the highest reimbursements were seen in surgeons who had been ASSH members from 8 to 20 years. Conclusions: Peak reimbursement from Medicare for ASSH members appears to be related to the time of surgeons\u27 peak operative volume, rather than any age-based bias for or against treating Medicare beneficiaries. In addition, though geographic variation in reimbursement does exist, this does not appear to correlate with density or availability of hand surgeons

    We introduce a new tool, the Deformed TBA (Deformed Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz), to analyze the monodromy problem of the cubic oscillator. The Deformed TBA is a system of five coupled nonlinear integral equations, which in a particular case reduces to the Zamolodchikov TBA equation for the 3-state Potts model. Our method generalizes the Dorey-Tateo analysis of the (monomial) cubic oscillator.
