Optimized linear physical-layer network coding of full-rate full-diversity in MIMO two-way relay networks

© 2017 IEEE. In multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) two-way relay networks (TWRN), linear physical-layer network coding (LPNC) was proposed to boost the throughput by using spatial multiplexing at source nodes. How to design optimal LPNC for full-rate full-diversity MIMO TWRN is still an open problem. In this paper, we propose a full-rate full-diversity (FRFD) LPNC scheme. In this scheme, two source nodes, each with two antennas, transmit full-rate universal space-time codes to a two-antenna relay simultaneously. Then, the relay applies LPNC to compute multiple network-coded (NC) messages. In particular, we explicitly solve the optimal LPNC mapping to minimize decoding errors of NC messages in the FRFD LPNC scheme. Our analytical results verify that the optimal FRFD LPNC scheme guarantees the full-diversity and full-rate transmission at the same time. Simulation results are consistent with the analytical results and further demonstrate that our optimal FRFD LPNC scheme outperforms the conventional MIMO LPNC scheme

Stochastic stability and stabilization of discrete-time singular Markovian jump systems with partially unknown transition probabilities

This paper considers the stochastic stability and stabilization of discrete-time singular Markovian jump systems with partially unknown transition probabilities. Firstly, a set of necessary and sufficient conditions for the stochastic stability is proposed in terms of LMIs, then a set of sufficient conditions is proposed for the design of a state feedback controller to guarantee that the corresponding closed-loop systems are regular, causal, and stochastically stable by employing the LMI technique. Finally, some examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approaches

Carbon monoxide in an extremely metal-poor galaxy

Extremely metal-poor galaxies with metallicity below 10% of the solar value in the local universe are the best analogues to investigating the interstellar medium at a quasi-primitive environment in the early universe. In spite of the ongoing formation of stars in these galaxies, the presence of molecular gas (which is known to provide the material reservoir for star formation in galaxies, such as our Milky Way) remains unclear. Here, we report the detection of carbon monoxide (CO), the primary tracer of molecular gas, in a galaxy with 7% solar metallicity, with additional detections in two galaxies at higher metallicities. Such detections offer direct evidence for the existence of molecular gas in these galaxies that contain few metals. Using archived infrared data, it is shown that the molecular gas mass per CO luminosity at extremely low metallicity is approximately one-thousand times the Milky Way value.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures, 1 table.
