Heavy Pentaquarks
We construct the spin-flavor wave functions of the possible heavy pentaquarks
containing an anti-charm or anti-bottom quark using various clustered quark
models. Then we estimate the masses and magnetic moments of the or heavy pentaquarks. We emphasize the difference in the
predictions of these models. Future experimental searches at BESIII, CLEOc,
BELLE, and LEP may find these interesting states
Nonadiabatic Geometric Quantum Computation Using A Single-loop Scenario
A single-loop scenario is proposed to realize nonadiabatic geometric quantum
computation. Conventionally, a so-called multi-loop approach is used to remove
the dynamical phase accumulated in the operation process for geometric quantum
gates. More intriguingly, we here illustrate in detail how to use a special
single-loop method to remove the dynamical phase and thus to construct a set of
universal quantum gates based on the nonadiabatic geometric phase shift. The
present scheme is applicable to NMR systems and may be feasible in other
physical systems.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure
Probing non-Abelian statistics of Majorana fermions in ultracold atomic superfluid
We propose an experiment to directly probe the non-Abelian statistics of
Majorana fermions by braiding them in an s-wave superfluid of ultracold atoms.
We show different orders of braiding operations give orthogonal output states
that can be distinguished through Raman spectroscopy. Realization of Majorana
bound states in an s-wave superfluid requires strong spin-orbital coupling and
a controllable Zeeman field in the perpendicular direction. We present a simple
laser configuration to generate the artificial spin-orbital coupling and the
required Zeeman field in the dark state subspace.Comment: 4 pages; Add detailed discussion of feasibility of the scheme;add

Light Fan Driven by a Relativistic Laser Pulse
When a relativistic laser pulse with a high photon density interacts with a specially tailored thin foil target, a strong torque is exerted on the resulting spiral-shaped foil plasma, or “light fan.” Because of its structure, the latter can gain significant orbital angular momentum (OAM), and the opposite OAM is imparted to the reflected light, creating a twisted relativistic light pulse. Such an interaction scenario is demonstrated by particle-in-cell simulation as well as analytical modeling, and should be easily verifiable in the laboratory. As an important characteristic, the twisted relativistic light pulse has a strong torque and ultrahigh OAM density

Preliminary experimental comparison and feasibility analysis of CO2/R134a mixture in Organic Rankine Cycle for waste heat recovery from diesel engines
This paper presents results of a preliminary experimental study of the Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) using CO2/R134a mixture based on an expansion valve. The goal of the research was to examine the feasibility and effectiveness of using CO2 mixtures to improve system performance and expand the range of condensation temperature for ORC system. The mixture of CO2/R134a (0.6/0.4) on a mass basis was selected for comparison with pure CO2 in both the preheating ORC (P-ORC) and the preheating regenerative ORC (PR-ORC). Then, the feasibility and application potential of CO2/R134a (0.6/0.4) mixture for waste heat recovery from engines was tested under ambient cooling conditions. Preliminary experimental results using an expansion valve indicate that CO2/R134a (0.6/0.4) mixture exhibits better system performance than pure CO2. For PR-ORC using CO2/R134a (0.6/0.4) mixture, assuming a turbine isentropic efficiency of 0.7, the net power output estimation, thermal efficiency and exergy efficiency reached up to 5.30 kW, 10.14% and 24.34%, respectively. For the fitting value at an expansion inlet pressure of 10 MPa, the net power output estimation, thermal efficiency and exergy efficiency using CO2/R134a (0.6/0.4) mixture achieved increases of 23.3%, 16.4% and 23.7%, respectively, versus results using pure CO2 as the working fluid. Finally, experiments showed that the ORC system using CO2/R134a (0.6/0.4) mixture is capable of operating stably under ambient cooling conditions (25.2–31.5 °C), demonstrating that CO2/R134a mixture can expand the range of condensation temperature and alleviate the low-temperature condensation issue encountered with CO2. Under the ambient cooling source, it is expected that ORC using CO2/R134a (0.6/0.4) mixture will improve the thermal efficiency of a diesel engine by 1.9%
Topological Bose-Mott Insulators in a One-Dimensional Optical Superlattice
We study topological properties of the Bose-Hubbard model with repulsive
interactions in a one-dimensional optical superlattice. We find that the Mott
insulator states of the single-component (two-component) Bose-Hubbard model
under fractional fillings are topological insulators characterized by a nonzero
charge (or spin) Chern number with nontrivial edge states. For ultracold atomic
experiments, we show that the topological Chern number can be detected through
measuring the density profiles of the bosonic atoms in a harmonic trap.Comment: 5 pages, published versio
