Gender Differences in Intentional Social Action: We-Intention to Engage in Social Network-Facilitated Team Collaboration
The growth and popularity of Web 2.0 applications help people to build and maintain their social networks online and further encourage social network-facilitated team collaboration. In this study, we conceptualized the use of Instant messaging in social network-facilitated team collaboration as an Intentional social action and further Investigated the effect of gender differences In the development of we-intention (I. e. collective intention) to engage In such collaboration. A research model was developed and empirically tested with 482 university students In Mainland China. The results demonstrated that the effects of attitude, positive anticipated emotions, and group norms on we-intention were more Important for men, whereas the effects of social Identity and negative anticipated emotions were more significant for women to collectively participate In social network-facilitated team collaboration. We believe the Implications of this study would shed considerable light on both research and practice
Magnetoresistance in LaFe11.2Co0.7Si1.1 compound
Magnetoresistance has been studied in LaFe/sub 11.2/Co/sub 0.7/Si/sub 1.1/ compound. The ferromagnetic ordering at Curie temperature T/sub C/ of 274 K was found being accompanied by a drastic negative lattice expansion due to the strong structural and magnetic interplay. Such a simultaneous magnetic and lattice change would cause changes in transport properties. The measured transport properties indicate that the transition can be induced by temperature or applied magnetic field. The sample shows a metallic character below T/sub C/, whereas the electrical resistance decreases dramatically and then recovers the metal-like behavior above T/sub C/. Application of a magnetic field retains the transitions via increasing the ferromagnetic ordering temperature. An isothermal increase of field leads to an increase of resistance at temperatures near but above T/sub C/, which is a result of the field-induced metamagnetic transition from paramagnetic to ferromagnetic state.published_or_final_versio
Magnetocaloric effect in itinerant electron metamagnetic systems La(Fe1-xCox)11.9Si1.1
The NaZn13-type compounds La(Fe1–xCox)11.9Si1.1 (x=0.04, 0.06, 0.08) were successfully synthesized, in which the Si content is the limit that can be reached by arc-melting technique. TC is tunable from 243 to 301 K with Co doping from x=0.04 to 0.08. Great magnetic entropy change S in a wide temperature range from ~230 to ~320 K has been observed. The adiabatic temperature change Tad upon changing magnetic field was also directly measured. Tad of sample x=0.06 reaches ~2.4 K upon a field change from 0 to 1.1 T. The temperature hysteresis upon phase transition is small, ~1 K, for all samples. The influence of Co doping on itinerant electron metamagnetic transition and magnetic entropy change is discussed. ©2005 American Institute of Physics.published_or_final_versio

To compare the differences between the two groups, Fisher’s exact test or the Kruskal–Wallis (K-W/H) test was used in the univariate analysis, while the logistic regression method was applied for further verification. Results: Basic characteristics showed no differences between the two groups (P > 0.05) except for parity (P 0.05).Conclusion: This study is the first to compare the pregnancy outcomes of patients with cervical HSIL who treated with LEEP and HIFU procedures. Both HIFU treatment and LEEP are available options for patients of reproductive age with cervical HSIL. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct prospective single-center or multicenter randomized controlled studies. Keywords: cervical high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions, high-intensity focused ultrasound, loop electrosurgical excision procedure, pregnancy outcom

Aharonov-Bohm interference in topological insulator nanoribbons
Topological insulators represent novel phases of quantum matter with an
insulating bulk gap and gapless edges or surface states. The two-dimensional
topological insulator phase was predicted in HgTe quantum wells and confirmed
by transport measurements. Recently, Bi2Se3 and related materials have been
proposed as three-dimensional topological insulators with a single Dirac cone
on the surface and verified by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy
experiments. Here, we show unambiguous transport evidence of topological
surface states through periodic quantum interference effects in layered
single-crystalline Bi2Se3 nanoribbons. Pronounced Aharonov-Bohm oscillations in
the magnetoresistance clearly demonstrate the coverage of two-dimensional
electrons on the entire surface, as expected from the topological nature of the
surface states. The dominance of the primary h/e oscillation and its
temperature dependence demonstrate the robustness of these electronic states.
Our results suggest that topological insulator nanoribbons afford novel
promising materials for future spintronic devices at room temperature.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, RevTex forma
China’s Weibo: is faster different?
The popularization of microblogging in China represents a new challenge to the state’s regime of information control. The speed with which information is diffused in the microblogosphere has helped netizens to publicize and express their discontent with the negative consequences of economic growth, income inequalities and official corruption. In some cases, netizen led initiatives have facilitated the mobilization of online public opinion and forced the central government to intervene to redress acts of lower level malfeasance. However, despite the growing corpus of such cases, the government has quickly adapted to the changing internet ecology and is using the same tools to help it maintain control of society by enhancing its claims to legitimacy, circumscribing dissent, identifying malfeasance in its agents and using online public opinion to adapt policy and direct propaganda efforts. This essay reflects on microblogging in the context of the Chinese internet, and argues that successes in breaking scandals and mobilizing opinion against recalcitrant officials should not mask the reality that the government is utilizing the microblogosphere to its own advantage
How consistent are the transcriptome changes associated with cold acclimation in two species of the Drosophila virilis group?
This work was financially support by a Marie Curie Initial Training Network grant, “Understanding the evolutionary origin of biological diversity” (ITN-2008–213780 SPECIATION), grants from the Academy of Finland to A.H. (project 132619) and M.K. (projects 268214 and 272927), a grant from NERC, UK to M.G.R. (grant NE/J020818/1), and NERC, UK PhD studentship to D.J.P. (NE/I528634/1).For many organisms the ability to cold acclimate with the onset of seasonal cold has major implications for their fitness. In insects, where this ability is widespread, the physiological changes associated with increased cold tolerance have been well studied. Despite this, little work has been done to trace changes in gene expression during cold acclimation that lead to an increase in cold tolerance. We used an RNA-Seq approach to investigate this in two species of the Drosophila virilis group. We found that the majority of genes that are differentially expressed during cold acclimation differ between the two species. Despite this, the biological processes associated with the differentially expressed genes were broadly similar in the two species. These included: metabolism, cell membrane composition, and circadian rhythms, which are largely consistent with previous work on cold acclimation/cold tolerance. In addition, we also found evidence of the involvement of the rhodopsin pathway in cold acclimation, a pathway that has been recently linked to thermotaxis. Interestingly, we found no evidence of differential expression of stress genes implying that long-term cold acclimation and short-term stress response may have a different physiological basis.PostprintPeer reviewe
Observation of a ppb mass threshoud enhancement in \psi^\prime\to\pi^+\pi^-J/\psi(J/\psi\to\gamma p\bar{p}) decay
The decay channel
is studied using a sample of events collected
by the BESIII experiment at BEPCII. A strong enhancement at threshold is
observed in the invariant mass spectrum. The enhancement can be fit
with an -wave Breit-Wigner resonance function with a resulting peak mass of
and a
narrow width that is at the 90% confidence level.
These results are consistent with published BESII results. These mass and width
values do not match with those of any known meson resonance.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Chinese Physics
