    Foveon F13 Camera

Most high-fidelity digital cameras currently available obtain their images using technology where individual pixels can only acquire a single color. Since the acquisition of multiple colors is necessary to capture a full colored image, picture resolution is lost due to difficulties in interpolation between non-adjacent, same color pixels. The resulting unsharp images create the need to find a new way to obtain these images without requiring interpolation between adjacent pixels. An innovative method to capture images with individual pixel cells consisting of three layers of photodetectors stacked vertically upon one another has been created to rectify this problem, but no complete camera system has been fabricated to date. This project integrates a stacked photo detector imager chip into a complete camera, allowing full functionality and control of the photo detector chip to a personal computer. A six layer printed circuit board is fabricated using Cadence Allegro, firmware is written and compiled using Xilinx ISE and software is written in Microsoft Visual Studio 2010

This research examines the effects of social capital on teacher identity in a sample of undergraduate after-degree education students who took most or all of their courses together as a cohort. A theoretical model containing nine variables including university and social background, social capital, and teacher identity is presented. The data obtained from questionnaires completed by 239 students in the Faculty of Education at a Western Canadian university are used to test the model. The results indicate that when other variables are taken into account, students’ perceptions of social capital resources available in their cohort have direct and indirect effects on their teacher identity.

Inside a Student Cohort: Teacher Education from a Social Capital Perspective

In this article, we report on student teachers perceptions of their cohort experiences. Using the lens of social capital theory, we analyzed their responses to an open-ended question on a survey and faculty members responses in focus groups. The structural properties of cohorts closure, stability, interdependence, and shared ideology facilitated the development of social capital. Closure and stability promoted social and emotional support while interdependence and shared ideology prompted both positive and negative effects. The cohort model better served some students than others. We found that students were more likely to develop social capital by bonding with their cohort peers than by bridging with those outside their cohorts.

"School Strike 4 Climate": Social Media and the International Youth Protest on Climate Change

Beginning in 2018, youth across the globe participated in protest activities aimed at encouraging government action on climate change. This activism was initiated and led by Swedish teenager, Greta Thunberg. Like other contemporary movements, the School Strike 4 Climate used social media. For this article, we use Twitter trace data to examine the global dynamics of the student strike on March 15, 2019. We offer a nuanced analysis of 993 tweets, employing a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis. Like other movements, the primary function of these tweets was to share information, but we highlight a unique type of information shared in these tweets - documentation of local events across the globe. We also examine opinions shared about youth, the tactic (protest/strike), and climate change, as well as the assignment of blame on government and other institutions for their inaction and compliance in the climate crisis. This global climate strike reflects a trend in international protest events, which are connected through social media and other digital media tools. More broadly, it allows us to rethink how social media platforms are transforming political engagement by offering actors - especially the younger generation - agency through the ability to voice their concerns to a global audience
