An adapted point based tracking for vehicle speed estimation in linear spacing
Vehicle velocity estimation is an important aspect of intelligent transportation systems. Normally velocity is estimated using dedicated laser speed traps and Doppler radars. Recently, the use of cameras is becoming more common for the purpose of traffic surveillance and smart surveillance system. It is thus the aim of this paper to propose a method for vehicle speed estimation using these existing video cameras. In this paper, we propose a vehicle speed estimation method from video analysis. The method proposed contains several steps; image preprocessing, centroid extraction and tracking. The proposed method transforms the 2D image points into a 3D virtual world to obtain actual vehicle position in 3D space. This is to account for perspective distortion commonly seen in images. Using these 3D points and measuring the time for displacement, the vehicle speed is obtained. Experimental results have shown that the proposed method gives accurate velocity estimation
Vestibular schwannomas: Clinical presentation, management and outcome
Objective: To review the demographic trends clinical spectrum, diagnosis, management and outcome of patients with vestibular Schwannoma and to identify areas where improvements are needed.Methods: All patients with vestibular schwannoma admitted to the Aga Khan University Hospital over the past 11 years were reviewed retrospectively.Results: The age range of majority of 22 patients analyzed, was 41-50 years (23%). Hearing loss was the most common presenting symptom (96%). Other clinical features included cranial nerve palsies (59%) and headache (55%). Fifty percent had signs of raised intracranial pressure. Neuroimaging revealed Stage IV b (tumor distorting the brainstem and compressing the 4th ventricle) in 50% cases. Neurosurgical intervention was carried out in 86%; mainly using the retrosigmoid approach. Postoperative complications included facial nerve palsy in 13 (65%) and hydrocephalus in 5 (25%) patients. Hearing determined clinically was preserved in three patients (14%). One patient died during the inpatient stay.Conclusion: Presentation of these patients is late and the outcome is poor
Performance Evaluation of Centralized Reconfigurable Transmitting Power Scheme in Wireless Network-on-chip
Network-on-chip (NoC) is an on-chip communication network that allows parallel communication among all cores to improve inter-core performance. Wireless NoC (WiNoC) introduces long-range and high bandwidth radio frequency (RF) interconnects that can possibly reduce the multi-hop communication of the planar metal interconnects in conventional NoC platforms. In WiNoC, RF transceivers account for a significant power consumption, particularly its transmitter, out of its total communication energy. This paper evaluates the energy and latency performance of a closed loop power management mechanism which enables transmitting power reconfiguration in WiNoC based on number of erroneous received packets. The scheme achieves significant energy savings with limited performance degradation and insignificant impact on throughput
On The Interaction Of D0-Brane Bound States And RR Photons
We consider the problem of the interaction between D0-brane bound state and
1-form RR photons by the world-line theory. Based on the fact that in the
world-line theory the RR gauge fields depend on the matrix coordinates of
D0-branes, the gauge fields also appear as matrices in the formulation. At the
classical level, we derive the Lorentz-like equations of motion for D0-branes,
and it is observed that the center-of-mass is colourless with respect to the
SU(N) sector of the background. Using the path integral method, the
perturbation theory for the interaction between the bound state and the RR
background is developed. We discuss what kind of field theory may be
corresponded to the amplitudes which are calculated by the perturbation
expansion in world-line theory. Qualitative considerations show that the
possibility of existence of a map between the world-line theory and the

Noncommutative geometry and physics: a review of selected recent results
This review is based on two lectures given at the 2000 TMR school in Torino.
We discuss two main themes: i) Moyal-type deformations of gauge theories, as
emerging from M-theory and open string theories, and ii) the noncommutative
geometry of finite groups, with the explicit example of Z_2, and its

Genetic diversity of pran (Allium cepa var. prolliferum) in Kashmir
Ten pran genotypes were evaluated using RAPD markers to determine the genetic relationships among genotypes showing morphological variations. Fourty three decamer primers were used in this study. Genetic diversity in the genotypes studied was analyzed using several variability parameters. Genotypes were grouped into two main clusters based on jaccard similarity coefficient. A dendrogram based on UPGMA analysis grouped the ten genotypes into two main clusters. Genotypes representing cluster-I are superior over genotypes in cluster-II with respect to yield attributes. Some genotypes did not show any similarity with either cluster, depicting their diverse nature. The grouping that was obtained with the RAPD analysis was at par with the morphological grouping based on yield attributes. The results of Principal Co-ordinate (PCO) analysis were comparable to the cluster analysis. Finally, the investigation of the genetic variation of pran with RAPD indicated that this marker is a suitable tool for assessing polymorphism and estimating the genetic similarity.
