A distributed deep learning approach with mobile edge computing for next generation IoT networks security

    Get PDF
Along with recent development in Next Generation IoT, the Deep Learning (DL) has become a promising paradigm to perform various tasks such as computation and analysis. Many security researchers have proposed distributed DL supporting DL task at the IoT device level to deliver low latency and high accuracy. However, due to limited computing capabilities of IoT devices, distributed DL is failed to maintain Quality-of-service demand in practical IoT applications. To this end, BlockDeepEdge, a Blockchain-based Distributed DL with Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) is proposed where MEC supports the lightweight IoT devices by delivering computing operations to them at the edge of the network. The blockchain provide a secure, decentralized and P2P interaction among IoT devices and MEC server to carryout distributed DL operation

Design of X-Band Bicontrollable Metasurface Absorber Comprising Graphene Pixels on Copper-Backed YIG Substrate

The planewave response of a bicontrollable metasurface absorber with graphene-patched pixels was simulated in the X band using commercial software. Each square meta-atom is a 4x4 array of 16 pixels, some patched with graphene and the others unpatched. The pixels are arranged on a PVC skin which is placed on a copper-backed YIG substrate. Graphene provides electrostatic controllability and YIG provides magnetostatic controllability. Our design delivers absorptance equal to or in excess of 0.9 over a 100-MHz spectral regime in the X band, with 360 MHz/kA magnetostatic controllabity rate and 1 Hz m/V electrostatic controllability rate. Notably, electrostatic control via graphene in the GHz range is novel.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures, 1 tabl

Can Adversarial Networks Make Uninformative Colonoscopy Video Frames Clinically Informative?

Various artifacts, such as ghost colors, interlacing, and motion blur, hinder diagnosing colorectal cancer (CRC) from videos acquired during colonoscopy. The frames containing these artifacts are called uninformative frames and are present in large proportions in colonoscopy videos. To alleviate the impact of artifacts, we propose an adversarial network based framework to convert uninformative frames to clinically relevant frames. We examine the effectiveness of the proposed approach by evaluating the translated frames for polyp detection using YOLOv5. Preliminary results present improved detection performance along with elegant qualitative outcomes. We also examine the failure cases to determine the directions for future work.Comment: Student Abstract, Accepted at AAAI 202

The Efficacy of Ketamine Gargle in Attenuating Postoperative Sore Throat

    Get PDF
Introduction: Postoperative sore throat (POST) is a common complication of general anesthesia with endotracheal intubation that affects the patient satisfaction after surgery. The aim of the study was to compare the effectiveness of ketamine gargle with placebo in preventing POST after endotracheal intubation. Methods: Sixty eight patients scheduled for elective surgery under general anesthesia were enrolled in this study. Patients were randomly allocated into two groups, 33 in study group and 35 in control group. Study group patients were asked to gargle with ketamine (50 mg in 1 ml mixed with 29 ml of drinking water) 10 minutes before induction for 30 seconds. Controls were made to do so with 30 ml of drinking water. POST was graded at one, two, four, and 24 hrs after operation on a four-point scale (0-3). The outcome measures were compared between two groups in terms of occurrence of POST and severity of POST at one, two, four, and 24 hr to determine the efficacy of ketamine. Results: Occurrence of POST was significantly less in study group at four hours. Severity of POST was significantly low in study group at one, two and four hours as compared to that in controls. It was comparable at 24 hours. Conclusion: Ketamine gargle significantly reduced the occurrence and severity of POST

Effects of varieties and planting geometries on growth and yield of rain-fed rice in Dailekh, Nepal

A study was conducted at outreach sites of Horticulture Research Station, Dailekh with the objective of understanding effects of variety selection and spacing under rain-fed condition, during two rainy seasons of 2016 and 2017. Experiment was conducted in two factorial Randomized Complete Block Design where the research sites were replication itself. First factor was variety, including Khumal-10 and farmerā€™s variety. The second factor was spacings at (20x20) cm, (20x15) cm, (15x15) cm, and farmerā€™s practice. Effect of Khumal-10 was significantly superior in each of the parameters studied, except days to heading and maturity. Khumal-10, alone contributed 21.6% more yield compared to the farmerā€™s variety and also had the tallest plant (127.5 cm) and longest panicle (23.4 cm). Similarly, transplantation at spacing of (15x15) cm was significantly outstanding with 28.6% more grain yield, unlike in transplantation with farmerā€™s practice. Furthermore, integrated management of rice with Khumal-10 transplanted at spacing of (15x15) cm is recommended for Dailekh condition, since it resulted significantly promising grain yield of 5.5 t/ha, which is 71.9% more in comparison to grain yield from farmerā€™s variety transplanted in farmersĀ“ practice.  Also, the economic benefit was highest with 75.8% more B:C ratio in case of improved variety Khumal-10 transplanted at (15x15) cm spacing
