    Bringing Impressionism to Life with Neural Style Transfer in Come Swim

    Neural Style Transfer is a striking, recently-developed technique that uses neural networks to artistically redraw an image in the style of a source style image. This paper explores the use of this technique in a production setting, applying Neural Style Transfer to redraw key scenes in 'Come Swim' in the style of the impressionistic painting that inspired the film. We document how the technique can be driven within the framework of an iterative creative process to achieve a desired look, and propose a mapping of the broad parameter space to a key set of creative controls.     Regions-based two dimensional continua: The Euclidean case

    We extend the work presented in [7, 8] to a regions-based, two-dimensional, Euclidean theory. The goal is to recover the classical continuum on a point-free basis. We first derive the Archimedean property for a class of readily postulated orientations of certain special regions, “generalized quadrilaterals” (intended as parallelograms), by which we cover the entire space. Then we generalize this to arbitrary orientations, and then establishing an isomorphism between the space and the usual point-based R × R. As in the one-dimensional case, this is done on the basis of axioms which contain no explicit “extremal clause” (to the effect that “these are the only ways of generating regions”), and we have no axiom of induction other than ordinary numerical (mathematical) induction. Finally, having explicitly defined ‘point’ and ‘line’, we will derive the characteristic Parallel’s Postulate (Playfair axiom) from regions-based axioms, and point the way toward deriving key Euclidean metrical properties

    Sequential Order of Swing Phase Initiation in Baseball

    In order to successfully hit a baseball, hitters must utilize a series of preparatory movements (swing phases) which include shifting their body weight, stepping, landing, and swinging. The purpose of this study was to examine the differences between start times for swing phases (shifting, stepping, landing, and swinging)for currently active baseball players. Participants (n = 12) were all current collegiate baseball athletes. Retroreflective markers, surface electromyography (EMG) and two force platforms were utilized to complete a swing analysis. Each participant completed five swinging trials off a tee. All dependent variables were compared using a repeated measures 1×4 ANOVA with LSD post hoc comparison (p \u3c  0.05) if necessary. The results demonstrated that the participants started the swing phases in a statistically significant sequence of shifting, stepping, landing, and swinging. The ability of the athletes to start the swing phases in this sequential order may be advantageous to regulate spatial parameters of their swing and provide more time to generate power. These results allow for coaches to better understand how to instruct their athletes to be successful at the plate

    This Article will first briefly examine the historical development of the paternity suit in the beginning of Part II. Part II will then focus upon the standards of proof, presumptions and affirmative defenses concomitant to the traditional paternity action. Part III will examine the concepts and legal applications behind blood group / genetic marker testing and the probability formulas derived from these tests used to exclude or include a putative father. Part IV will examine the technology behind DNA paternity testing and its current evidentiary admissibility. Part V will discuss some of the substantive and public policy issues relating to paternity determinations. Finally, in Part VI, we offer our version of a possible model uniform paternity statute which would create either a rebuttable or a conclusive presumption when the paternity test results achieve a certain level indicating paternity
