Factors Affecting Hemodialysis Patients' Satisfaction with Their Dialysis Therapy
Aim. To assess the degree of satisfaction among hemodialysis patients and the factors influencing this satisfaction. Methods. Patients were recruited from 3 Saudi dialysis centers. Demographic data was collected. Using 1 to 10 Likert scale, the patients were asked to rate the overall satisfaction with, and the overall impact of, their dialysis therapy on their lives and to rate the effect of the dialysis therapy on 15 qualities of life domains.
Results. 322 patients were recruited (72.6% of the total eligible patients). The mean age was 51.7 years (±15.4); 58% have been on dialysis for >3 years. The mean Charlson Comorbidity Index was 3.2 (±2), and Kt/V was 1.3 (±0.44). The mean satisfaction score was (7.41 ± 2.75) and the mean score of the impact of the dialysis on the patients' lives was 5.32 ± 2.55.
Male patients reported worse effect of dialysis on family life, social life, energy, and appetite. Longer period since the commencement of dialysis was associated with adverse effect on finances and energy. Lower level of education was associated with worse dialysis effect on stress, overall health, sexual life, hobbies, and exercise ability. Conclusion. Speciation of vanadium in the dissolved, colloidal, and sediment phase under dynamic redox-conditions in a V contaminated soil treated and untreated with biochar
Vanadium is a redox-sensitive toxic element and can exist in a variety of oxidation states: â1, 0, +2, +3, +4, and +5. Vanadium (+5) is considered as a potentially dangerous pollutant. Biochar (BC) can be used to remediate soils contaminated with potential toxic elements (PTEs) including V. However, the efficiency of BC to immobilize V and its on speciation of V in the dissolved and colloidal phase and its mobilization and phytoavailability in the sediment phase under dynamic redox-conditions in highly contaminated soils under dynamic redox conditions has not been studied up to date. Thus, we have i) quantified the impact of pre-definite redox conditions on the speciation and release dynamics of V in the dissolved and colloidal phase as well as on the mobilization and phytoavailability of V in the soil sediments phase in a highly contaminated alkaline soil (CS) (non-treated) (pH = 7.44 and total V = 1,040 mg kg-1) collected from China and in the same soil treated with BC (CS+BC), and ii) assessed the impact of rice husk biochar as soil amendment on the same parameters. The impact of redox potential (EH), pH, dissolved organic carbon (DOC), dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), and sulfate (SO42-) on speciation and release dynamics of V was also determined under dynamic redox conditions. In addition, the used biochar was characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). The experiment was conducted in stepwise from moderate reducing (-30 mV in CS and -12 mV in CS+BC) to oxidizing (+218 mV in CS and +333 mV in CS+BC) soil conditions in different cycles using a highly sophisticated automated biogeochemical microcosm apparatus.
Flooding of the CS and CS+BC caused significant changes of pH values which varied from 6.15 to 8.33 in the CS and from 5.14 to 7.91 in the CS+BC and the EH correlated negatively with pH. The dissolved concentrations of V varied from 15.2-46.4 mg L-1 in the CS to 14.9-50.2 mg L-1 in the CS+BC, while the colloidal concentrations of V varied from 39.5-49.9 mg L-1 in the CS to 31.8-50.2 mg L-1 in the CS+BC.

Impact of Transformational Leadership on Psychological Empowerment and Job Satisfaction Relationship: a Case of Yemeni Banking
The banking sector of Yemen is under threat due to the lack of confidence and trust of the prospective clients that hindered economic development of the country. The study aimed to measure a moderating effect of transformational leadership on employees\u27 psychological empowerment and job satisfaction relationship so that attitudes of the Yemeni can be bumped towards banking. In this study, 160 employees were surveyed in different branches of four banks in Yemen. The data were analyzed in four stages namely, reliability and validity analysis, descriptive analysis, multivariate analysis, and hypotheses testing analysis. The study revealed a significant positive relationship between employees\u27 psychological empowerment and transformational leadership towards their job satisfaction level. If the policy makers consider the findings and undertake necessary measures, the Yemeni banking is expected to be accelerated which will contribute to the economy of the country
Characterization of the multidrug efflux transporter styMdtMfrom Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi
Salmonellae are foodborne pathogens and the major cause of gastroenteritis in humans. Salmonellae express multidrug efflux transporters that play a key role in their drug resistance, which is becoming an increasing problem for therapeutic intervention. Despite their biomedical importance, the mechanisms underlying substrate transport by multidrug efflux transporters remain poorly understood. Here, we describe the first characterization of a multidrug transporter belonging to the major facilitator superfamily from the genus Salmonella. We show that several clinical Salmonella Typhi (S. Typhi) isolates constitutively express the styMdtM (STY4874) gene, which encodes a known multidrug-resistance (MDR) transporter. Guided by the structure of the Escherichia coli (E. coli) homolog, we studied two residues critical for substrate transport, Asp25 and Arg111. Mutation of Asp25 to glutamate did not affect the transport function of styMdtM, whereas mutation to alanine reduced its transport activity, suggesting that a negative charge at this position is critical for substrate translocation across the membrane. Substrate-affinity measurements by intrinsic fluorescence spectroscopy showed that the Asp25Ala mutant retained its capacity to bind substrate, albeit at a lower level. Mutation of Arg111 to alanine resulted in a decrease in secondary structure content of the transporter, and mutation to lysine completely destabilized the structure of the transporter. A homology model of styMdtM suggests that Arg111 is important for stabilizing the transmembrane domain by mediating necessary interactions between neighboring helices. Temperature Dependence of Exciton Diffusion in Conjugated Polymers
The temperature dependence of the exciton dynamics in a conjugated polymer is studied using time-resolved spectroscopy. Photoluminescence decays were measured in heterostructured samples containing a sharp polymer-fullerene interface, which acts as an exciton quenching wall. Using a 1D diffusion model, the exciton diffusion length and diffusion coefficient were extracted in the temperature range of 4-293 K. The exciton dynamics reveal two temperature regimes: in the range of 4-150 K, the exciton diffusion length (coefficient) of ~3 nm (~1.5 Ă 10-4 cm2/s) is nearly temperature independent. Increasing the temperature up to 293 K leads to a gradual growth up to 4.5 nm (~3.2 Ă 10-4 cm2/s). This demonstrates that exciton diffusion in conjugated polymers is governed by two processes: an initial downhill migration toward lower energy states in the inhomogenously broadened density of states, followed by temperature activated hopping. The latter process is switched off below 150 K.
Examination of The Applicability and Intensity of Nintendo Wiitm Exergaming For Children With Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia: A Preliminary Study
Aims: Exploring the applicability and intensity of exergaming for children with cancer is essential. This study aimed to examine the applicability of Nintendo WiiTM exergames and determine the intensity of Physical Activity (PA) provided by these exergames for children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Methods: In this preliminary study, 31 children aged 6-14 years of both sexes were asked to play Wii exergames for a 60-minute research session. Using the Arabic video game applicability questionnaire, the children were instructedto score seven statements regarding usability, engagement, and enjoyment of exergames. In addition, heart rate (HR), predicted heart rate maximum (pred. HRmax), rating of perceived exertion (RPE), and oxygen saturation (SpO2) were measured at baseline and every 15 min during the session.
Results: About 74.2%, 83.9%, and 93.6% of the children agreed that the games were usable, engaging, and enjoyable, respectively. Exergames were of moderate intensity as the children reached 59.22±8.40 % of age-predicted HRmax: the HR and its percentage of increase from the pred. HRmax (% pred. HRmax) was significantly higher in girls than in boys (P=0.01). The level of perceived exertion was moderate (5.74± 0.63).
Conclusion: Implementation of Nintendo Wii exergames for 60 minutes was found to be applicable. In addition, it resulted in PA of moderate intensity
Effects of autologous stem cell therapy for fertility enhancement among women with premature ovarian insufficiency
Background: Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) is a condition where the ovary loses its normal reproductive potential earlier than 40 years, compromising fertility. There is no treatment for POI, only ovum or embryo donation. Autologous stem cell ovarian transplant (ASCOT) may be a procedure that creates new eggs in the ovaries of women with POI. The aim of the study was to find out the efficacy of ASCOT in patients suffering from POI.
Methods: A total of 50 patients were included according to inclusion and exclusion criteria in this prospective observational study. POI was confirmed with low levels of anti-mullerian hormone (AMH) (<0.5 ng/dl), high level of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) >25 ng/ml, and or a low number of antral follicle count (AFC) (<3 in each ovary).
Results: Results showed that after stem cell therapy, mean AMH values increased by 0.48±0.306 and mean FSH values increased by 2.73±3.98 but the difference was not statistically significant. AFC values significantly decreased by 1.33±0.625 at 1st post-stem-cell cycle. During the second cycle, AMH and AFC increased by 0.110±0.051 and 4.63±1.49, respectively, and FSH decreased by 7.4±2.78. In third cycle, AMH & FSH was significantly increased by 0.820±0.44 & 4.120±0.470 and FSH has been decreased by 2.150±3.625. The increase in AMH & AFC was statistically significant, and the decrease in FSH was not statistically significant compared to baseline values.
Conclusions: The study showed that autologous stem cell therapy can have a significant effect on womenâs ovarian function and fertility. It showed that ASCOT can increase AMH and AFC, and decrease FSH in patients with POI, with a total pregnancy rate of 4% after the third cycle follow-up
Understanding consumer demand for new transport technologies and services, and implications for the future of mobility
The transport sector is witnessing unprecedented levels of disruption.
Privately owned cars that operate on internal combustion engines have been the
dominant modes of passenger transport for much of the last century. However,
recent advances in transport technologies and services, such as the development
of autonomous vehicles, the emergence of shared mobility services, and the
commercialization of alternative fuel vehicle technologies, promise to
revolutionise how humans travel. The implications are profound: some have
predicted the end of private car dependent Western societies, others have
portended greater suburbanization than has ever been observed before. If
transport systems are to fulfil current and future needs of different
subpopulations, and satisfy short and long-term societal objectives, it is
imperative that we comprehend the many factors that shape individual behaviour.
This chapter introduces the technologies and services most likely to disrupt
prevailing practices in the transport sector. We review past studies that have
examined current and future demand for these new technologies and services, and
their likely short and long-term impacts on extant mobility patterns. We
conclude with a summary of what these new technologies and services might mean

An extremely rare complete bilateral duplication of Inferior vena cava in a male cadaver: anatomy, embryology and clinical relevance
The study presented an extremely rare case of real complete bilateral duplication of inferior vena cava (IVC) in a male cadaver which has never been reported before. Both IVC had approximately the same diameter. The right IVC drained into the right atrium; the left IVC continued as hemiazygos vein and drained into the superior vena cava. Three anastomotic venous channels, a cranial preaortic, a middle and a caudal retroaortic, joined both vessels. Multiple variations in the way of drainage of posterior intercostal veins, on both sides, were also present. The present report invalidates an old classification defining the two vessels when joined at the level of the renal veins as complete bilateral duplication of IVC. Although the presence of combination of venous variations is extremely rare, awareness of such variations is essential for clinical and surgical procedures to avoid misdiagnosis and surgical complications
