Economic values of wetlands conservation from the perspective of urban non-users
Benefits of wetlands resources that are tradable in the market, for example, wood products and fish are readily observable through market prices. However, non-marketable benefits such as the preservation of environmental functions and ecosystems are less objective. This study applies the Dichotomous- Choice Contingent Valuation Method on the Paya Indah wetlands in Kuala Langat, Selangor to estimate the non-marketed benefits of conserving the wetland from the perspective of non-users, in particular among urban households in Selangor. Results indicate that the mean willingness to pay (equivalent surplus) which reflects the non-use values of Paya Indah wetlands accrued to urban non-user households in Selangor ranges from RM28 - RM31 annually. The large sum of monetary value that households place in the conservation of Paya Indah illustrates partially the magnitude of social benefits that society at large obtains from the assurance that the wetland is to be maintained as a site for nature conservation. This strongly indicates that conservation of the wetlands is highly valued by the general public
Acceptance towards Goods and Services Tax (GST) among local business communities / Shahariah Asmuni, Sabariah Yusoff and Nur Syuhadah Mohd Ses.
The Goods and Services Tax (GST) has been introduced in Malaysia to replace the Sales and Services Tax (SST) to improve the efficiency of indirect tax collection. However, its implementation has not been fully understood by business people. This research aims to examine the key factors that have contributed to the level of acceptance towards GST among business communities in a local city, Johor Bharu. In this study, three variables were selected namely awareness, understanding and attitude. Using questionnaire as a research instrument, 100 sets of questionnaires were distributed. Multiple regression analysis was used to test the relationship among awareness, understanding and attitude with the level of acceptance among business communities towards GST. The results revealed that the mean score for all independent variables is moderate. Awareness and attitude were found to have significant impact on the level of acceptance among business community towards GST, while understanding is not significant. The business community in Johor Bahru shows a moderate or positive level of acceptance and attitude towards GST
Public acceptance and preference towards rainwater harvesting in Klang Valley, Malaysia / Shahariah Asmuni … [et al.]
This study explored the public acceptance and preference towards rainwater harvesting (RWH) in the area of Klang Valley. Self-administered questionnaires were used to obtain data from 109 respondents. An interview was also conducted on an individual representing a household with a RWH system. Respondents generally accepted that rainwater could be collected and reused for non-potable uses such as washing the porch and vehicles and watering the garden. While suggested WTP values of non-owners of the system fall below RM500, actual interview showed a homeowner spending a much higher amount for the system’s installation. Among the attributes of a RWH system preferred by respondents were affordability, safety and convenience. Added feature of a system preferred would be having a unit subsidized by the government. These findings may assist policymakers in finding ways to promote the development and use of RWH systems in the country

online shopping behaviour among young adults in Malaysia. This paper investigates four variables that influence young adults online shopping behaviour namely convenience, customers satisfaction, persived and price level. A survey has been conducted by distributing google form questionnaires through WhatsApps applications. The collected data was analised using both frequencies and multiple regression analyses. The empirical findings of this study shows that convenience, customers satisfaction and price level positively influence the online shopping behaviour among adults. In contrast, persived risk has a negative effect with regards to online shopping. Among the four variables, convenience, persived risk and price level were found to be significant while consumer satisfaction was not
Impact of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG), Profitability and Macroeconomics Indicators on Firm Performance
Firms that are ESG compliant have better governance, care more about the environment and sustainable development, have lower profits volatility and access to lower-cost funding. Many investors can easily make judgment based on firm performance rather than financial success if ESG is incorporated into a firm's investment decision. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between ESG score, profitability, growth domestic product (GDP) growth, labor force, and population with Malaysian firms’ performance. A multiple regression technique is used to estimate the ordinary least square (OLS) method from year 2010 to 2020. The result identifies that ESG score, GDP growth, and population has significant relationship with firm performance.

Navigating Urban Mobility: The Relationship between Car Consumption and Public Transport Usage in Malaysia
Increasing private-owned cars in Malaysia has, thus far, contributed to growing congestion, environmental pollution, and decreasing public transport utilization. Car ownership has become possible through economic growth, and convenience and status attached to cars triggered tendencies from shifting to public transit. This development contradicts investments in public transport and aggravates environmental problems. This paper examines the relationship between private car ownership and public transport usage in Malaysia from 2000 to 2022, concentrating on intercity bus services, KTM commuters, and light rail transit. The results indicate that with increased riders for intercity buses and KTM commuter services, car usage drops, while that of light rail may raise car ownership. The study emphasizes the need to upgrade intercity and KTM services to mitigate the pressures of car ownership and calls for further research into the role of light rail
Macroeconomics Factors Affecting Net Exports of Oil Palm Industry in Malaysia
This quantitative study investigates the impact of oil palm production, oil palm pricing, inflation, and GDP growth rate on the net exports of Malaysia's oil palm industry. This research is aimed at analyzing how the net export of oil palm relates to certain macroeconomic variables. This study has employed multiple regression analysis through Ordinary Least Squares for 26 years of time series data from 1996 to 2020 in Malaysia. The findings from this study improve our understanding of the major factors contributing to net exports in the oil palm industry. Palm oil production, price, as well as GDP growth, drive net export of palm oil in Malaysia found during this research. An increase in production leads to the reduced amount of palm oil exported, all other things remaining constant. Conversely, inflation and GDP growth are major drivers behind the increased net export of palm oil
