A technique for the production of a high amplitude, high frequency, concentrated magnetic field for use in hyperthermia applications

Cancer of the liver is a common disease with a relatively poor prognosis. Hyperthermia is an exciting treatment that is under investigation. One modality of hyperthermia therapy makes use of an external magnetic field to produce losses in magnetic particles that have been supplied to the tumour. The losses result in the heating of the tumour cells thereby causing cell destruction. There exists a limit in the product of magnetic field intensity and frequency, above which eddy currents reach levels capable of causing thermal damage in healthy tissue. This limit is well documented in the literature and, due to the seriousness of the disease, can be increased to 5 x 109 A/ms. The magnetic field used by most researchers is produced by simple coils. Using these simple coils, it is very difficult to produce sufficient heating throughout the tumour cells without exceeding the safety limit in healthy tissue. This research provides a machine that is capable of producing a magnetic field of sufficient energy to cause therapeutic heating within the tumour region whilst remaining within the safety limit elsewhere. A design methodology for this machine is demonstrated. A prototype machine is built and tested in order to validate the design procedure. The results from the prototype experiment are in good agreement with those predicted by the theory. The idea of “focussing” a magnetic field in distances far smaller than the wavelength of the field is a novel concept. This fundamentally new research has the potential to assist in the development of a treatment for tumour sufferers

Ten years of AV Department of Tin Ujević Library

AV odjel Knjižnice Tina Ujevića djeluje od 2003. godine. Ispočetka nudi raznovrsnu glazbenu građu s posebnim usmjerenjem na jazz i blues glazbu. S povećanjem ponude glazbene i neglazbene građe, dolazi do povećanja broja korisnika; međutim, prostor s vremenom postaje neodgovarajući pa je Odjel potpuno preuređen 2009. godine. Fond se stalno razvija, dijelom kroz koordiniranu nabavu KGZ-a, dijelom kroz samostalno prikupljanje voditelja nabave i djelatnika na AV odjelu. Korisnicima nudi slobodan pristup glazbenoj (CD-ovi, DVD-ovi, note) i neglazbenoj građi (tečajevi jezika, elektroničke knjige, računalne igrice, DVD-ovi s filmovima). Osim svakodnevnog prikupljanja i obrade građe, AV odjel aktivno sudjeluje u organizaciji glazbenih događanja, koncerata, izložbi i predavanja o glazbi. U skladu sa specifičnim potrebama korisnika, čiji upiti zahtijevaju stalnu pouku, zajedno s poznavanjem povijesti glazbe, na Odjelu je zaposlen diplomirani glazbenik – knjižničar, čime je omogućen stručni savjet i prava informacija svim korisnicima i ljubiteljima glazbe.AV department of Tin Ujević Library was founded in 2003. as music department with the financial support of Open Society Institute Croatia. Initially offering a variety of music with an orientation towards classical and jazz music. With the development of new technologies and demands of new, e-generation of users, department is enriched with new types of material on new media such as movies, games and e-books. The number of users has increased, but the space became inadequate, so AV department was altered and renovated in 2009. in order to offer our users all the book and non-book material in free access. Today AV department has 3240 units of material, 1831 belonging to the music collection, 554 units of visual material, 602 units of electronic resources, and the rest belongs to books about music and printed music manuscript. Except for acquisition, storage and lending of AV materials, department actively participates in organisation of concerts, lectures and exhibitions regarding music. Small-molecule inhibitors of the receptor tyrosine kinases : promising tools for targeted cancer therapies

Chemotherapeutic and cytotoxic drugs are widely used in the treatment of cancer. In spite of the improvements in the life quality of patients, their effectiveness is compromised by several disadvantages. This represents a demand for developing new effective strategies with focusing on tumor cells and minimum side effects. Targeted cancer therapies and personalized medicine have been defined as a new type of emerging treatments. Small molecule inhibitors (SMIs) are among the most effective drugs for targeted cancer therapy. The growing number of approved SMIs of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) i.e., tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in the clinical oncology imply the increasing attention and application of these therapeutic tools. Most of the current approved RTK–TKIs in preclinical and clinical settings are multi-targeted inhibitors with several side effects. Only a few specific/selective RTK–TKIs have been developed for the treatment of cancer patients. Specific/selective RTK–TKIs have shown less deleterious effects compared to multi-targeted inhibitors. This review intends to highlight the importance of specific/selective TKIs for future development with less side effects and more manageable agents. This article provides an overview of: (1) the characteristics and function of RTKs and TKIs; (2) the recent advances in the improvement of specific/selective RTK–TKIs in preclinical or clinical settings; and (3) emerging RTKs for targeted cancer therapies by TKIs.Felix Mindus foundationPublishe

O planejamento tributário pode ser entendido como a principal ferramenta de apoio à administração da organização. Sua função essencial é auxiliar os gestores das organizações na tomada de decisões tempestivas. A metodologia da pesquisa deste trabalho caracteriza-se como uma pesquisa descritiva e explicativa, para respaldar os objetivos propostos fundamentou-se em um estudo de caso com fundamentação bibliográfica. Atribuições da controladoria : proposta para uma instituição de ensino do Estado do Paraná

Assim, o objetivo da monografia foi apresentar as atribuições da controladoria, como órgão de gestão, para uma instituição de ensino do Estado do Paraná. Sabe-se que os processos acadêmicos e administrativos ficam mais complexos e precisando atender a demanda social da comunidade. A Controladoria pode ser entendida como principal ferramenta de apoio à administração da organização. Sua função essencial é auxiliar os gestores das organizações na tomada de decisões tempestivas. Neste sentido, conhecer o papel do controller e suas atribuições é o primeiro passo para implantação do departamento de Controladoria em uma empresa.
