Effect of Synthetic Detergents on Soil Erosion Resistance

    Get PDF
The effect of soil contamination with synthetic detergents (SD) Labomid-203, MS-8 and ML-51 in combination with potassium monoborate (MBP) on the change in the potential of soil erosion resistance (PER) was evaluated. PER characterizes the soil resistance to water erosion and is equal to the energy of a water jet acting perpendicular to the soil surface, required for the destruction and removal of a unit of soil mass from the area of its natural occurrence. Soil water retention curve (SWRC) and hydraulic conductivity were selected for the research as parameters determining soil erodibility. SWRC and moisture conductivity function are dependent on the surface tension and viscosity of the moisture in the soil, which are changed on soil contamination with surfactants of washing solutions. Integrating the expression for SWRC in the range of moisture content values from a fixed initial value to the value, corresponding to the complete filling of soil pores with moisture, gave the result correlating with the energy determining the potential for erosion resistance. Soil contamination with SD and MBP led to the significant decrease in soil erosion resistance, which is particularly evident at low moisture values. The largest decrease in soil erosion resistance (by an average of 39.6%) was caused by MS-8 (1.0% MS-8, 0.3% MBP). The smallest decrease in soil erosion resistance (by an average of 12.4%) was caused by ML-51 (0.5% ML-51, 0.1% MBP). The experiments were carried out with dark-gray and light-gray forest soils of the Chuvash Republic (Russia)

Machine Learning for SAT: Restricted Heuristics and New Graph Representations

Boolean satisfiability (SAT) is a fundamental NP-complete problem with many applications, including automated planning and scheduling. To solve large instances, SAT solvers have to rely on heuristics, e.g., choosing a branching variable in DPLL and CDCL solvers. Such heuristics can be improved with machine learning (ML) models; they can reduce the number of steps but usually hinder the running time because useful models are relatively large and slow. We suggest the strategy of making a few initial steps with a trained ML model and then releasing control to classical heuristics; this simplifies cold start for SAT solving and can decrease both the number of steps and overall runtime, but requires a separate decision of when to release control to the solver. Moreover, we introduce a modification of Graph-Q-SAT tailored to SAT problems converted from other domains, e.g., open shop scheduling problems. We validate the feasibility of our approach with random and industrial SAT problems

Near-Zero-Shot Suggestion Mining with a Little Help from WordNet

In this work, we explore the constructive side of online reviews: advice, tips, requests, and suggestions that users provide about goods, venues, services, and other items of interest. To reduce training costs and annotation efforts needed to build a classifier for a specific label set, we present and evaluate several entailment-based zero-shot approaches to suggestion classification in a label-fully-unseen fashion. In particular, we introduce the strategy of assigning target class labels to sentences in English language with user intentions, which significantly improves prediction quality. The proposed strategies are evaluated with a comprehensive experimental study that validated our results both quantitatively and qualitatively.Comment: Accepted to the 10th International Conference on Analysis of Images, Social Networks and Texts (AIST 2021

Electrochemical design of plasmonic nanoantennas for tip-enhanced optical spectroscopy and imaging performance

    Get PDF
Optical nanoantennas play a crucial role in controlling near-fields on the nanoscale and being counterparts of commonly used conventional optical components such as lens, prisms, gratings, etc. for shaping the wavefront of light in the far-field. In this paper we highlight a dc-pulsed voltage electrochemical etching method with a self-tuneable duty cycle for highly reproducible design of plasmonic (metallic) nanoantennas. With the method, we introduce such concepts as design, optimization and figure-ofmerit for evaluating fabrication efficiency. The ability of the nanoantennas to enhance and localize the optical fields beyond the diffraction limit is statistically studied with Rayleigh scattering from the tip apex and tipenhanced Raman spectroscopy of a single walled carbon nanotubes bundle

Optimization of the laser beam propagation conditions in the prism stretcher of THL-100 multiterawatt laser system

    Get PDF
The influence of the optical inhomogeneities effect of the prism stretcher elements on the spatial, angular and spectral parameters of the transmitted radiation and the degree of change in the phase aberrations of the laser beam during its propagation in the stretcher are studied. It is shown that the prism material does not allow transmitting of a required diameter of 75 mm without linear distortions of the beam. The maximum intensity and beam diameter allowing to amplify the picosecond pulses in XeF(C-A) amplifier are determined. Β© (2015) COPYRIGHT Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE).
