[EN] We present the results from a measurementbasedperformance evaluation of wireless networks basedon IEEE 802.11ac standard in an indoor environment, withthe aim to analyze their performance under high definitionstreaming video applications. We focus our study on analyzingthe highest performance of these standards using off-theshelfequipment as well as the behavior of Quality of Servicevariables and how they affect to the video quality. Thus, wehave analyzed and measured these variables and have applieda multivariate statistical technique, called Factor Analysis, and finally discuss their behavior. This work was supported by the Universitat de Valencia under the projects UV-INV-PRECOMP14-207134, UVINVAE15-339582, by the Generalitat Valenciana under the project GV-2016-002 and by the Ministry of Economy under the project BIA2016-76957-C3-1-RGarcía-Pineda, M.; Felici-Castell, S.; Segura-Garcia, J. Objectives: We performed a reanalysis of the data from Navarro et al., 2003, in which health symptoms related to microwave exposure from mobile phone base stations (BS) were explored, including data obtained in a retrospective inquiry about fear of exposure from BS. Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: La Ă‘ora (Murcia), Spain. Participants: Participants with known illness in 2003 were subsequently disregarded: 88 participants instead of 101 (in 2003) were analysed. Since weather circumstances can influence exposure, we restricted data to measurements made under similar weather conditions. Outcomes and methods: A statistical method indifferent to the assumption of normality was employed: namely, binary logistic regression for modelling a binary response (e.g. suffering fatigue (1) or not (0)), and so exposure was introduced as a predictor variable. This analysis was carried out on a regular basis and bootstrapping [95% percentile method] was used to provide more accurate confidence intervals. Main outcome measures Results: The symptoms most related to exposure were: lack of appetite [odds ratio (OR)] = 1.58, 95% confidence interval (95%CI) = 1.23-2.03; lack of concentration [OR = 1.54, 95% CI = 1.25- 1.89]; irritability [OR = 1.51, 95% CI = 1.23-1.85]; and trouble sleeping [OR = 1.49, 95% CI = 1.20-1.84]. Changes in -2 log likelihood showed similar results. Concerns about the BS were strongly related with trouble sleeping [OR = 3.12, 95% CI = 1.10-8.86]. The exposure variable remained statistically significant in the multivariate analysis. The bootstrapped values were similar to the asymptotic confidence intervals. Conclusion: This study confirms our preliminary results. We observed that the incidence of most of the symptoms was related to exposure levels Âż independently of the demographic variables and some possible risk factors. Concerns about adverse effects from exposure, despite being strongly related with sleep disturbances, do not influence the direct association between exposure and sleep

The aim of this study was to evaluate the physician-perceived utility of the QLQ-GINET21 in routine clinical practice in patients with gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumours (GI-NETs). Secondary aims were to explore the patient, clinician, and/or centre-related variables potentially associated with perceived clinical utility. Methods Non-interventional, cross-sectional, multicentre study conducted at 34 hospitals in Spain and Portugal (NCT02853422). Patients diagnosed with GI-NETs completed two health-related quality of life (HRQoL) questionnaires (QLQ-C30, QLQ-GINET21) during a single routine visit. Physicians completed a 14-item ad hoc survey to rate the clinical utility of QLQ-GINET21 on three dimensions: 1)therapeutic and clinical decision-making, 2)doctor-patient communication, 3)questionnaire characteristics. Results A total of 199 patients at 34 centres were enrolled by 36 participating clinicians. The highest rated dimension on the QLQ-GINET21 was questionnaire characteristics (86.9% of responses indicating “high utility”), followed by doctor-patient communication (74.4%), and therapeutic and clinical decision-making (65.8%). One physician-related variable (GI-NET patient volume > 30 patients/year) was associated with high clinical utility and two variables (older age/less experience treating GI-NETs) with low clinical utility. Conclusions Clinician-perceived clinical utility of QLQ-GINET21 is high. Clinicians valued the instruments’ capacity to provide a better understanding of patient perspectives and to identify the factors that had the largest influence on patient HRQoL.This study was sponsored by Ipsen

eHealth systems provide medical support to users and contribute to the development of mobile and quality health care. They also provide results on the prevention and follow-up of diseases by monitoring health-status indicators and methodical data gathering in patients. Telematic management of health services by means of the Internet of Things provides immediate support and it is cheaper than conventional physical presence methods. Currently, wireless communications and sensor networks allow a person or group to be monitored remotely. The aim of this paper is to develop and assess a system for monitoring physiological parameters to be applied in different scenarios, such as health or sports. This system is based on a distributed architecture, where physiological data of a person are collected by several sensors; next, a Raspberry Pi joins the information and makes a standardization process; then, these data are sent to the Cloud to be processed. Our Cloud system stores the received data and makes a data fusion process in order to indicate the athlete's fatigue status at every moment. This system has been tested in collaboration with a small group of voluntary tri-athletes. A network simulation has been performed to plan a monitoring network for a bigger group of athletes. Finally, we have found that this system is useful for medium-term monitoring of the sports activitie

Nowadays, the virtual reconstruction of old and lost buildings is a hot-topic in cultural heritage. Traditionally, this reconstruction has been made with 3D graphical information, but the feeling of immersion can significantly increase with the addition of other senses. Moreover, the inclusion of emotional and cognitive dimensions to multisensory virtual perception is what will bring the concept of ultra-reality. The aim of this paper is to show the work on a virtual acoustic system, which combines graphical and acoustic rendering (using a graphical engine and an audio engine). This system was implemented to render binaural auralizations and has been used for the rendering of a 16th century Valencian theatre, the so-called 'Corral de l'Olivera', which was rebuilt several times until the 18th century. It has been modeled graphically and for acoustic simulation. In addition, the auralization of diverse theatrical extracts of diverse Spanish authors was carried out. The consequences of this work will be reflected in future contributions on immersive theatre with greater immersive and emotional sensation. Thus, we contribute to the immersive virtual recovery of theatres that are historical cultural heritage

However, current Academic Accreditation includes the dimension of “what students are expected to be able to do”, which poses the need of decreasing the gap between standard simulated laboratory sessions and more practical and realistic approaches. In this paper, we propose a methodology to enhance the learning of practical aspects related to Digital Communications courses, as well as increasing the student’s engagement, via the use of low-cost software defined radio devices. This methodology has been applied in the Degree in Telematics Engineering at the School of Engineering from the University of Valencia, Spain. With the aim of improving the engagement of both master and undergraduate students, a project based learning methodology has been implemented. In the paper, the methodology is described, several laboratory activities based on the 802.11 standard are presented, and recommendations for practice are given
