Lead exposure has etiological role on cardiovascular system diseases as hypertension, ath erosclerosis, stroke, and arrhythmic events. In this study, we aimed to compare the basal and arrhythmogenic ECG parameters of lead exposed workers before and after chelation therapy and to evaluate the effect of acute change of blood lead levels on ECG. Fourty con secutive occupationally lead exposed workers were enrolled, demographic, blood, echocar diographic, and electrocardiographic data’s were analyzed before and after chelation therapy. Pmax, P min, P Wave Dispersion, and QT Dispersion values which are arrhythmia predictors were significantly lower after chelation therapy compared to values before chela tion therapy. Lead exposed workers are under the risk of ventricular and atrial arrythmias and chelation treatment has a positive effect on these parameters

Kuzularda % 22 zeranol pozitif bulundu.Zeranol is a synthetic derivative of Zearalenone which has been used as an anabolic substance in sheep and cattle to increase growth of zeranol in food producing animals. The usage of zeranol is prohibited in most countries of the European Union and in Turkey. In the illegal use of zeranol it is difficult to determine its presence because the amount of zeranol given and period is not known. As well as this, the age and breed of the animal plus individual variations affect the period of removal of zeranol from the body. Because of this rapid, sensitive and accurate techniques are needed and Radioimmunoassay (RIA) has been proposed as an reference method for anabolic agent residues.Faeces, serum and tissue samples of lambs from Ankara and the surrounding countryside were collected and the analyses of zeranol, oestrogen, progesteron and testosteron were carried out using Radioimmunoassay. A total of 153 faeces samples of lambs collected from Ankara and the surrounding countryside were analysed for the presence of zeranol positive samples for lamb faeces were 22%

Fazilet Özlem Çekiç (Aksaray, Yazar) Sefa Ekinci (Aksaray, Yazar)Among nanoparticles, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are intensively used in many materials owing to their antibacterial effects. In the present study different concentrations of AgNPs in Hoagland solution were applied to tomato seedlings. Total chlorophyll content, relative water content (RWC), antioxidant enzyme activities, and malondialdehyde content (MDA) as well as the genomic template stability (GTS) were analyzed. The intersimple sequence repeat polymerase chain reaction assay (ISSR-PCR) was used to determine the genotoxic effects of AgNPs on DNA. RWC did not change under AgNPs treatments; however, total chlorophyll content was significantly reduced by AgNPs applications. ISSR profiles demonstrated a consistent increase in polymorphic bands by the increase in the concentration of AgNPs. GTS value was also reduced depending on the concentration of AgNPs. SOD and APX activities were increased under low AgNPs treatments; however, these activities were decreased under high concentrations of AgNPs treatments. Tomato plants could be sensitive to AgNPs within the increase in MDA content in all of the AgNPs treatments. AgNPs nanotoxicity could be quite dose-dependent. AgNPs could also have negative effects on tomato plants by enhancing DNA damage and lipid peroxidation

Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty results in a better gait pattern than total knee arthroplasty: Gait analysis with a smartphone application

Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the smartphone-based gait analysis data of patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA). Patients and methods: Between January 2016 and April 2019, a total of 51 patients (3 males, 48 females; mean age: 60.92 years; range, 51 to 70 years) who were operated with UKA or TKA in our clinic were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into two groups according to the type of procedure as the UKA group (n=17) and unilateral TKA group (n=34). Gait analysis was made via a smartphone application (Gait Analyzer software version 0.9.95.0) with data acquired from the accelerometer of the smartphone. This analysis was performed using data collected from the Acceleration Sensor LSM6DSO into the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus phone. Gait velocity, step time, step length, cadence, step time symmetry, step length symmetry, and vertical COM (vert-COM) parameters were measured. Results: There were no statistically significant differences between the groups in respect of age, sex, body mass index, operated side, and follow-up duration. Compared to the TKA group, the UKA patients showed a better gait pattern in gait velocity (p=0.03), step time symmetry (p=0.005), and step length symmetry (p=0.024). No significant difference was detected in step time (p=0.807), step length (p=0.302), cadence (p=0.727) and vert-COM parameters (p=0.608). Conclusion: The gait of UKA patients is closer to the physiological pattern with a better gait velocity, step time symmetry, and step length symmetry than TKA patients. The surgical treatment option of UKA for knee medial compartment osteoarthritis leads to a better gait pattern than TKA
