Review of agronomic and genetic diversity of Moroccan rice varieties, and their resistance to blast disease (Pyricularia oryzae)

varieties with desirable characteristics to mitigate various constraints. Rice (Oryza sativa) is the
staple food for half of the world's population. However, its production is hampered by a variety
of biological constraints. The Blast disease (Pyricularia oryzae) is an important rice disease, and
one of the most effective control methods is to use resistant varieties. Study areas in Morocco
include the Gharb plains. For all methods, cultural practises like soil levelling seem to be
important, but biological control is not widely adopted due to cost, efficacy, and climatic
conditions. The bibliographic synthesis was carried out in this context with the main goals of
contributing to a better understanding of rice cultivation in Morocco; to identify and characterise
the structure of the rice blast pathogen (Pyricularia oryzae), which will allow us to characterise
the effects of rice blast; and to research on the Gharb rice field, which resulted in resistant
varieties, which will potentially allow producers to have resistant varieties to overcome the
diseases. The introduction and development of new rice varieties with high agronomic and
socioeconomic value; the selection of lines with high yield, good grain quality, and precocity that
are adapted to Moroccan conditions; as well as the development of new lines from Moroccan
rice, are among the specific goals
Can dissonance engineering improve risk analysis of humanâmachine systems?
The paper discusses dissonance engineering and its application to risk analysis of humanâmachine systems. Dissonance engineering relates to sciences and technologies relevant to dissonances, defined as conflicts between knowledge. The richness of the concept of dissonance is illustrated by a taxonomy that covers a variety of cognitive and organisational dissonances based on different conflict modes and baselines of their analysis. Knowledge control is discussed and related to strategies for accepting or rejecting dissonances. This acceptability process can be justified by a risk analysis of dissonances which takes into account their positive and negative impacts and several assessment criteria. A risk analysis method is presented and discussed along with practical examples of application. The paper then provides key points to motivate the development of risk analysis methods dedicated to dissonances in order to identify the balance between the positive and negative impacts and to improve the design and use of future humanâmachine system by reinforcing knowledge
Stress-Induced Reinstatement of Drug Seeking: 20 Years of Progress
In human addicts, drug relapse and craving are often provoked by stress. Since 1995, this clinical scenario has been studied using a rat model of stress-induced reinstatement of drug seeking. Here, we first discuss the generality of stress-induced reinstatement to different drugs of abuse, different stressors, and different behavioral procedures. We also discuss neuropharmacological mechanisms, and brain areas and circuits controlling stress-induced reinstatement of drug seeking. We conclude by discussing results from translational human laboratory studies and clinical trials that were inspired by results from rat studies on stress-induced reinstatement. Our main conclusions are (1) The phenomenon of stress-induced reinstatement, first shown with an intermittent footshock stressor in rats trained to self-administer heroin, generalizes to other abused drugs, including cocaine, methamphetamine, nicotine, and alcohol, and is also observed in the conditioned place preference model in rats and mice. This phenomenon, however, is stressor specific and not all stressors induce reinstatement of drug seeking. (2) Neuropharmacological studies indicate the involvement of corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF), noradrenaline, dopamine, glutamate, kappa/dynorphin, and several other peptide and neurotransmitter systems in stress-induced reinstatement. Neuropharmacology and circuitry studies indicate the involvement of CRF and noradrenaline transmission in bed nucleus of stria terminalis and central amygdala, and dopamine, CRF, kappa/dynorphin, and glutamate transmission in other components of the mesocorticolimbic dopamine system (ventral tegmental area, medial prefrontal cortex, orbitofrontal cortex, and nucleus accumbens). (3) Translational human laboratory studies and a recent clinical trial study show the efficacy of alpha-2 adrenoceptor agonists in decreasing stress-induced drug craving and stress-induced initial heroin lapse
Risk factors and outcomes associated with recurrent autoimmune hepatitis following liver transplantation
Background & Aims: Autoimmune hepatitis can recur after liver transplantation (LT), though the impact of recurrence on patient and graft survival has not been well characterized. We evaluated a large, international, multicenter cohort to identify the probability and risk factors associated with recurrent AIH and the association between recurrent disease and patient and graft survival.Methods: We included 736 patients (77% female, mean age 42 +/- 1 years) with AIH who underwent LT from January 1987 through June 2020, among 33 centers in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Clinical data before and after LT, biochemical data within the first 12 months after LT, and immunosuppression after LT were analyzed to identify patients at higher risk of AIH recurrence based on histological diagnosis.Results: AIH recurred in 20% of patients after 5 years and 31% after 10 years. Age at LT <= 42 years (hazard ratio [HR] 3.15; 95% CI 1.22-8.16; p = 0.02), use of mycophenolate mofetil post-LT (HR 3.06; 95% CI 1.39-6.73; p = 0.005), donor and recipient sex mismatch (HR 2.57; 95% CI 1.39-4.76; p = 0.003) and high IgG pre-LT (HR 1.04; 95% CI 1.01-1.06; p = 0.004) were associated with higher risk of AIH recurrence after adjusting for other confounders. In multivariate Cox regression, recurrent AIH (as a time-dependent covariate) was significantly associated with graft loss (HR 10.79, 95% CI 5.37-21.66, p <0.001) and death (HR 2.53, 95% CI 1.48-4.33, p = 0.001).Conclusion: Recurrence of AIH following transplant is frequent and is associated with younger age at LT, use of mycophenolate mofetil post-LT, sex mismatch and high IgG pre-LT. We demonstrate an association between disease recurrence and impaired graft and overall survival in patients with AIH, highlighting the importance of ongoing efforts to better characterize, prevent and treat recurrent AIH.Lay summary: Recurrent autoimmune hepatitis following liver transplant is frequent and is associated with some recipient features and the type of immunosuppressive medications use. Recurrent autoimmune hepatitis negatively affects outcomes after liver transplantation. Thus, improved measures are required to prevent and treat this condition. A Low-Power and in Situ Annealing Technique for the Recovery of Active Devices after Proton Irradiation
In this paper, we study the recovery of onmembrane semiconductor components, such as N-type Field-Effect Transistors (FETs) available in two different channel widths and a Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) inverter, after the exposure to high dose of proton radiation. Due to the ionizing effect, the electrical characteristics of the components established remarkable shifts, where the threshold voltages showed an average shift of -480 mV and -280 mV respectively for 6 Όm and 24 Όm N-channel transistors, likewise the inversion point of the inverter showed an important shift of -690 mV. The recovery concept is based mainly on a micro-hotplate, fabricated with backside MEMS micromachining structure and a Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) technology, ensuring rapid, low power and in situ annealing technique, this method proved its reliability in recent works. Annealing the N-channel transistors and the inverter for 16 min with a temperature of the heater up to 385 °C, guaranteed a partial recovery of the semiconductor based components with a maximum power consumption of 66 mW
In-situ Thermal Annealing of On-Membrane SOI Semiconductor-Based Devices After High Gamma Dose irradiation
In this paper, we investigate the recovery of some semiconductor-based components, such as N/P-type field-effect transistors (FETs) and a complementary metalâoxideâsemiconductor (CMOS) inverter, after being exposed to a high total dose of gamma ray radiation. The employed method consists mainly of a rapid, low power and in situ annealing mitigation technique by silicon-on-insulator micro-hotplates. Due to the ionizing effect of the gamma irradiation, the threshold voltages showed an average shift of â580 mV for N-channel transistors, and â360 mV for P-MOSFETs. A 4 min double-cycle annealing of components with a heater temperature up to 465 °C, corresponding to a maximum power of 38 mW, ensured partial recovery but was not sufficient for full recovery. The degradation was completely recovered after the use of a built-in high temperature annealing process, up to 975 °C for 8 min corresponding to a maximum power of 112 mW, which restored the normal operating characteristics for all devices after their irradiation
