The Italian version of the Thinking About Life Experiences Questionnaire and its relationship with gender, age, and life events on Facebook

    Get PDF
The present study provided a cross-cultural validation of the Thinking About Life Experiences Scale-revised (TALE-R) in an Italian sample of Facebook users (n = 492; female = 378; male = 114; mean age 26.1) to test for replication and universality of the TALE-R three-factor model. Furthermore, it explored the interrelations among gender, age, the scores at the TALE-R and the frequency of posting textual/visual information about individuals' life events on Facebook. Results at exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis gave empirical support to both of a tripartite model for the functions of autobiographical memory (i.e., directive-behavior, social-bonding, and self-continuity) and measurement invariance of this three-factor model across gender and age. Further results at linear correlation and regression analyses showed that directive-behavior and self-continuity functions of autobiographical memory are significantly related to the ways people use Facebook for personal documentation. Age differences more than gender influence this association. Discussion and conclusion reported both theoretical and empirical implications of the findings of the study

Privatization: A Review of Its Potential in the Water Industry, Dominated by Natural Monopoly, Political Intervention and Social Concerns

Today there exists a variety of views on the potential for privatization in reducing the costs of services historically provided by government. The water industry is one such area that is dominated by government provision. Privatizing public water utilities has a large potential for ultimately reducing government involvement in the services provided to society. Its potential success depends on a variety of economic, political and social factors.Master of Public AdministrationPublic AdministrationUniversity of Michigan-Flinthttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/143502/1/Scrima.pd

New Coated Films For Innovative & Effective Packaging

    Get PDF
Super Fılm, one of the leading producers of flexible packaging, is developing strongly in flexible packaging sector. To increase the product and service range, Super Film has invested in a new coating line. The paper focuses on the role of a new coating technology in enhancing the film properties and in developing innovative flexible packaging. The paper shows how the coater has been designed for the utmost flexibility, to make it extremely versatile and complete with the most technically advanced features, in order to bring added values to the standard BOPP and PET films. Mention is made of the latest technologies and of the new different films that can be produced by this line. In particular, the paper considers a PET having sealable, peelable and antifog properties with in-depth analysis of the enhanced seal performances as well as of the optical and antifog properties. Some examples are given about the growing market for these grades due to consumers’ inclination to fresh produces, from ready meals, packaged and refrigerated, to fruit platters and salad bowls

The effect of organizational culture on deviant behaviors in the workplace

    Get PDF
This study investigated the impact of organizational culture (OC) on deviant behaviors in the workplace (workplace deviant behaviors: WDB). We tested the hypothesis that different types of OC (according to the Competing Values Framework model) had an impact on WDB, in addition to the effect of Big Five personality traits. Survey research was undertaken with 954 employees of 30 enterprises in the public and private field, using a hierarchical model approach (HLM) to test the effects of four types of OC (Clan; Adhocracy; Market, Hierarchy) on WDB, over and above the effect of Five Personality traits. The HLM results partially supported our hypotheses, showing that the OC had a significant effect on WDB, with the adhocracy and clan cultures characterized by lower levels of WDB. Managerial implications about the importance of managing the OC are discussed

The Rap–RapGAP complex: GTP hydrolysis without catalytic glutamine and arginine residues

    Get PDF
The GTP-binding protein Rap1 regulates integrin-mediated and other cell adhesion processes. Unlike most other Ras-related proteins, it contains a threonine in switch II instead of a glutamine (Gln61 in Ras), a residue crucial for the GTPase reaction of most G proteins. Furthermore, unlike most other GTPase-activating proteins (GAPs) for small G proteins, which supply a catalytically important Arg-finger, no arginine residue of RapGAP makes a significant contribution to the GTPase reaction of Rap1. For a detailed understanding of the reaction mechanism, we have solved the structure of Rap1 in complex with Rap1GAP. It shows that the Thr61 of Rap is away from the active site and that an invariant asparagine of RapGAPs, the Asn-thumb, takes over the role of the cis-glutamine of Ras, Rho or Ran. The structure and biochemical data allow to further explain the mechanism and to define the important role of a conserved tyrosine. The structure and biochemical data furthermore show that the RapGAP homologous region of the tumour suppressor Tuberin is sufficient for catalysis on Rheb
