Open-charm enhancement at FAIR?
We have calculated the D-meson spectral density at finite temperature within
a self-consistent coupled-channel approach that generates dynamically the
(2593) resonance. We find a small mass shift for the D-meson in
this hot and dense medium while the spectral density develops a sizeable width.
The reduced attraction felt by the D-meson in hot and dense matter together
with the large width observed have important consequences for the D-meson

HPMA copolymer-phospholipase C and dextrin-phospholipase A2 as model triggers for polymer enzyme liposome therapy (PELT)
âPolymer Enzyme Liposome Therapyâ (PELT) is a two-step anticancer approach in which a liposomal drug and polymer-phospholipase conjugate are administered sequentially to target the tumour interstitium by the enhanced permeability and retention effect, and trigger rapid, local, drug release. To date, however, the concept has only been described theoretically. We synthesised two polymer conjugates of phospholipase C (PLC) and A2 (PLA2) and evaluated their ability to trigger anthracycline release from the clinically used liposomes, CaelyxÂź and DaunoXomeÂź. N-(2-Hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide (HPMA) copolymerâPLC and a dextrin-PLA2 were synthesised and their enzymatic activity characterised. Doxorubicin release from polyethyleneglycol-coated (PEGylated) CaelyxÂź was relatively slow (<20%, 60âmin), whereas daunomycin was rapidly released from non-PEGylated DaunoXomeÂź (âŒ87%) by both enzymes. Incubation with dextrinâPLA2 triggered significantly less daunomycin release than HPMA copolymer-PLC, but when dextrin-PLA2 was pre-incubated with α-amylase, the rate of daunomycin release increased. DaunoXomeÂźâs diameter increased in the presence of PLA2, while CaelyxÂźâs diameter was unaffected by free or conjugated PLA2. DextrinâPLA2 potentiated the cytotoxicity of DaunoXomeÂź to MCF-7 cells to a greater extent than free PLA2, while combining dextrinâPLA2 with CaelyxÂź resulted in antagonism, even in the presence of α-amylase, presumably due to steric hindrance by PEG. Our findings suggest that in vivo studies to evaluate PELT combinations should be further evaluated

Two recent experiments have demonstrated that the effective -mass in
nuclear medium, as extracted from the reaction, is
substantially reduced. This has been advocated as an indication of partial
restoration of chiral symmetry in nuclear matter. We show that even in the
absence of chiral symmetry, effective mean field nuclear matter models can

Study of dimuon production in Indium-Indium collisions with the NA60 experiment
The NA60 experiment at the CERN-SPS is devoted to the study of dimuon
production in heavy-ion and proton-nucleus collisions. We present preliminary
results from the analysis of Indium-Indium collisions at 158 GeV per nucleon.
The topics covered are low mass vector meson production, J/psi production and
suppression, and the feasibility of the open charm measurement from the dimuon

Two-step polymer- and liposome- enzyme prodrug therapies for cancer: PDEPT and PELT concepts and future perspectives
Polymer-directed enzyme prodrug therapy (PDEPT) and polymer enzyme liposome therapy (PELT) are two-step therapies developed to provide anticancer drugs site-selective intratumoral accumulation and release. Nanomedicines, such as polymer-drug conjugates and liposomal drugs, accumulate in the tumor site due to extravasation-dependent mechanism (enhanced permeability and retention â EPR â effect), and further need to cross the cellular membrane and release their payload in the intracellular compartment. The subsequent administration of a polymer-enzyme conjugate able to accumulate in the tumor tissue and to trigger the extracellular release of the active drug showed promising preclinical results. The development of polymer-enzyme, polymer-drug conjugates and liposomal drugs had undergone a vast advancement over the past decades. Several examples of enzyme mimics for in vivo therapy can be found in the literature. Moreover, polymer therapeutics often present an enzyme-sensitive mechanism of drug release. These nanomedicines can thus be optimal substrates for PDEPT and this review aims to provide new insights and stimuli toward the future perspectives of this promising combination
First results from the NA60 experiment at CERN
Since 1986, several heavy ion experiments have studied some signatures of the
formation of the quark-gluon plasma and a few exciting results have been found.
However, some important questions are still unanswered and require new
measurements. The NA60 experiment, with a new detector concept that vastly
improves dimuon detection in proton-nucleus and heavy-ion collisions, studies
several of those open questions, including the production of open charm. This
paper presents the experiment and some first results from data collected in

Meson Production in In-In Collisions and the Puzzle
The NA60 experiment measured dimuon production in In-In collisions at 158
AGeV. This paper presents a high statistics measurement of with
the specific objective to provide insight on the puzzle, i.e. the
difference in the inverse slopes and absolute yields measured by NA49 and
NA50 in the kaon and lepton channel, respectively. Transverse momentum
distributions were studied as a function of centrality. The slope parameter
shows a rapid increase with centrality, followed by a saturation. Variations of
with the fit range of the order of 15 MeV were observed, possibly as a
consequence of radial flow. The meson yield normalized to the number of
participants increases with centrality and is consistently higher than the

Evidence for radial flow of thermal dileptons in high-energy nuclear collisions
The NA60 experiment at the CERN SPS has studied low-mass dimuon production in
158 AGeV In-In collisions. An excess of pairs above the known meson decays has
been reported before. We now present precision results on the associated
transverse momentum spectra. The slope parameter Teff extracted from the
spectra rises with dimuon mass up to the rho, followed by a sudden decline
above. While the initial rise is consistent with the expectations for radial
flow of a hadronic decay source, the decline signals a transition to an
emission source with much smaller flow. This may well represent the first
direct evidence for thermal radiation of partonic origin in nuclear collisions.Comment: Accepted for publication in Physical Review Letter
