Leptoquark patterns unifying neutrino masses, flavor anomalies, and the diphoton excess
Vector leptoquarks provide an elegant solution to a series of anomalies and
at the same time generate naturally light neutrino masses through their mixing
with the standard model Higgs boson. We present a simple Froggatt-Nielsen model
to accommodate the B physics anomalies and , neutrino masses, and
the GeV diphoton excess in one cohesive framework adding only two vector
leptoquarks and two singlet scalar fields to the standard model field content.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures; final version published in PR

Personality Characteristics Which Predispose Potentially Self-Destructive Behaviors
In the college setting, many adolescents choose to engage in potentially self-destructive behaviors such as smoking, drinking, and body piercing, despite the associated risks. It is hypothesized that the tendency to participate in these behaviors is correlated with personality characteristics. Personality tests measuring sensation seeking, locus of control, and impulsiveness, along with three scales measuring the tendency to participate in three self-destructive behaviors: smoking, drinking, and body decoration, were administered to 102 college-aged students. Results showed that most of the self-destructive behaviors were negatively correlated with subscales of the sensation seeking measure. One possible explanation of these results would be the conservative, Catholic, campus culture of the university. However, more research is necessary to substantiate this type of group difference
Dispersion of tracer particles in a compressible flow
The turbulent diffusion of Lagrangian tracer particles has been studied in a
flow on the surface of a large tank of water and in computer simulations. The
effect of flow compressibility is captured in images of particle fields. The
velocity field of floating particles has a divergence, whose probability
density function shows exponential tails. Also studied is the motion of pairs
and triplets of particles. The mean square separation is fitted to
the scaling form ~ t^alpha, and in contrast with the
Richardson-Kolmogorov prediction, an extended range with a reduced scaling
exponent of alpha=1.65 pm 0.1 is found. Clustering is also manifest in strongly
deformed triangles spanned within triplets of tracers.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure
Quantum data processing and error correction
This paper investigates properties of noisy quantum information channels. We
define a new quantity called {\em coherent information} which measures the
amount of quantum information conveyed in the noisy channel. This quantity can
never be increased by quantum information processing, and it yields a simple
necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of perfect quantum error
correction.Comment: LaTeX, 20 page
Optical properties of self-organized wurtzite InN/GaN quantum dots: A combined atomistic tight-binding and full configuration interaction calculation
In this work we investigate the electronic and optical properties of
self-assembled InN/GaN quantum dots. The one-particle states of the
low-dimensional heterostructures are provided by a tight-binding model that
fully includes the wurtzite crystal structure on an atomistic level. Optical
dipole and Coulomb matrix elements are calculated from these one-particle wave
functions and serve as an input for full configuration interaction
calculations. We present multi-exciton emission spectra and discuss in detail
how Coulomb correlations and oscillator strengths are changed by the
piezoelectric fields present in the structure. Vanishing exciton and biexciton
ground state emission for small lens-shaped dots is predicted.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figure
