Communicative participation improves following motor speech program treatment in apraxia of speech

    Get PDF
Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a motor speech disorder characterized by increase in segment and intersegment durations (segmentation), equal stress over words and/or sentences, dysprosody, and speech sound distortions. With decreased intelligibility, limited or lack communicative participation arises from an inability to be understood or lack of confidence in their speech. Establishing communicative participation measurements is integral to generalizing and establishing efficacy of treatment program progress to a child’s everyday life. This study observes the communicative participation change of a group of children (n=6) with idiopathic CAS, receiving a new four-week, 16-hour treatment called Treatment for Establishing Motor Programming Organization (TEMPO). Clinically significant changes were seen in communicative participation post TEMPO treatment using the FOCUS-34© parental questionnaire with an average change of 50 points. Specifically, sub-scales of intelligibility, social/play, independence, and coping/emotional skills were seen as driving components of this change

Strike-slip faulting, wrinkle ridges, and time variable stress states in the Coprates Region of Mars

    Get PDF
The existence of strike-slip faults was recently documented in two locations on Mars. Two clear examples are reviewed located southeast of Valles Marineris and preliminary evidence is presented for more widespread strike-slip deformation elsewhere in Coprates. The first two examples show that strike-slip faulting occurred in a broad zone east of the Coprates Rise spanning approximately 400 km east-west by perhaps 1000 km north-south. The last example suggests that the growth of major wrinkle ridges throughout Coprates may have been influenced by horizontally directed shear stresses and that more than one generation of ridges was produced. Thus, 'compressional' deformation of ridged plains south of Valles Marineris was spatially heterogeneous and a temporal change in stress may have been involved

Stochastic Transition Model for Discrete Agent Movements

We propose a calibrated two-dimensional cellular automaton model to simulate pedestrian motion behavior. It is a v=4 (3) model with exclusion statistics and random shuffled dynamics. The underlying regular grid structure results in a direction-dependent behavior, which has in particular not been considered within previous approaches. We efficiently compensate these grid-caused deficiencies on model level.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure

Quasi-exospheric heat flux of solar-wind electrons

    Get PDF
Density, bulk-velocity, and heat-flow moments are calculated for truncated Maxwellian distributions representing the cool and hot populations of solar-wind electrons, as realized at the base of a hypothetical exosphere. The electrostatic potential is thus calculated by requiring charge quasi-neutrality and the absence of electrical current. Plasma-kinetic coupling of the cool-electron and proton bulk velocities leads to an increase in the electrostatic potential and a decrease in the heat-flow moment

The construction of neighbourhoods and its relevance for the measurement of social and ethnic segregation: evidence from Denmark

    Get PDF
In this paper we propose a model for constructing neighbourhoods based on georeferenced data and administrative data. The 431,233 inhabited hectare cells in Denmark are clustered into 9,404 small and 2,296 large neighbourhoods, inhabited on average in 2004 by 572 and 2,343 persons respectively. The priorities in the clustering process are to obtain neighbourhoods that are unaltered over time, delineated by physical barriers, compact, homogeneous in terms of type of housing and ownership, relatively small, homogeneous in terms of number of inhabitants, and comprised of a contiguous cluster of cells. To illustrate the importance of detailed neighbourhood information we compare social and ethnic segregation measured by Isolation and Dissimilation indices on the levels of municipalities and of small neighbourhoods. Our findings demonstrate substantial variation in the residential mix in neighbourhoods within a given municipality, and thus show the importance of having information on a more detailed geographical level than that of the municipality

    Ocean shrimp report 1976 season

Statewide Pacific ocean shrimp, Pandalus jordani, landings totaled 3,400,191 lb, down from the 1975 record catch of 4,992,233 lb but well above the 10-year (1966-1975) mean of 2.6 million lb. Landings from Areas A (Eureka-Crescent City) and B-1 (Fort Bragg) were 2.7 and 0.7 million lb, respectively. Only negligible amounts were landed in Areas B-2 (Bodega Bay) and C (Avila-Morro Bay). In Areas A and B-1 catch per hour trawled by single-rig vessels ranged from 294 to 1,803 lb while catch per hour by double-rig vessels ranged from 431 to 3,428 lb. Two-year-old (1974 year class) shrimp dominated the catches during the first part of the season, but 1-year-old (1975 year class) shrimp dominated the catches from August to October. The outlook for the 1977 season in Areas A, B-1 and B-2 is good because of the strong showing of the 1975 year class. (15pp.

Lattice structure and magnetization of LaCoO3 thin films

We investigate the structure and magnetic properties of thin films of the LaCoO3_{3} compound. Thin films are deposited by pulsed laser deposition on various substrates in order to tune the strain from compressive to tensile. Single-phase (001) oriented LaCoO3_{3} layers were grown on all substrates despite large misfits. The tetragonal distortion of the films covers a wide range from -2% to 2.8%. Our LaCoO3_{3} films are ferromagnetic with Curie temperature around 85 K, contrary to the bulk. The total magnetic moment is below 1ÎĽB1\mu_{B}/Co3+^{3+}, a value relatively small for an exited spin-state of the Co3+^{3+} ions, but comparable to values reported in literature. A correlation of strain states and magnetic moment of Co3+^{3+} ions in LaCoO3_{3} thin films is observed.Comment: submitted tu European Phys. J.
