In-medium vector meson masses in a Chiral SU(3) model
A significant drop of the vector meson masses in nuclear matter is observed
in a chiral SU(3) model due to the effects of the baryon Dirac sea. This is
taken into account through the summation of baryonic tadpole diagrams in the
relativistic Hartree approximation. The appreciable decrease of the in-medium
vector meson masses is due to the vacuum polarisation effects from the nucleon
sector and is not observed in the mean field approximation.Comment: 26 pages including 10 figures; the text has been modified for clarit
Astrophysical and cosmological constraints to neutrino properties
The astrophysical and cosmological constraints on neutrino properties (masses, lifetimes, numbers of flavors, etc.) are reviewed. The freeze out of neutrinos in the early Universe are discussed and then the cosmological limits on masses for stable neutrinos are derived. The freeze out argument coupled with observational limits is then used to constrain decaying neutrinos as well. The limits to neutrino properties which follow from SN1987A are then reviewed. The constraint from the big bang nucleosynthesis on the number of neutrino flavors is also considered. Astrophysical constraints on neutrino-mixing as well as future observations of relevance to neutrino physics are briefly discussed
Note on SLE and logarithmic CFT
It is discussed how stochastic evolutions may be linked to logarithmic
conformal field theory. This introduces an extension of the stochastic Loewner
evolutions. Based on the existence of a logarithmic null vector in an
indecomposable highest-weight module of the Virasoro algebra, the
representation theory of the logarithmic conformal field theory is related to
entities conserved in mean under the stochastic process.Comment: 10 pages, LaTeX, v2: version to be publishe
A Fast Algorithm for Simulating the Chordal Schramm-Loewner Evolution
The Schramm-Loewner evolution (SLE) can be simulated by dividing the time
interval into N subintervals and approximating the random conformal map of the
SLE by the composition of N random, but relatively simple, conformal maps. In
the usual implementation the time required to compute a single point on the SLE
curve is O(N). We give an algorithm for which the time to compute a single
point is O(N^p) with p<1. Simulations with kappa=8/3 and kappa=6 both give a
value of p of approximately 0.4.Comment: 17 pages, 10 figures. Version 2 revisions: added a paragraph to
introduction, added 5 references and corrected a few typo
Off-Critical SLE(2) and SLE(4): a Field Theory Approach
Using their relationship with the free boson and the free symplectic fermion,
we study the off-critical perturbation of SLE(4) and SLE(2) obtained by adding
a mass term to the action. We compute the off-critical statistics of the source
in the Loewner equation describing the two dimensional interfaces. In these two
cases we show that ratios of massive by massless partition functions,
expressible as ratios of regularised determinants of massive and massless
Laplacians, are (local) martingales for the massless interfaces. The
off-critical drifts in the stochastic source of the Loewner equation are
proportional to the logarithmic derivative of these ratios. We also show that
massive correlation functions are (local) martingales for the massive
interfaces. In the case of massive SLE(4), we use this property to prove a
factorisation of the free boson measure.Comment: 30 pages, 1 figures, Published versio
Design guidelines for use of adhesives and organic coatings in hybrid microcircuits
A study was conducted to investigate the reliability of organic adhesives in hybrid microcircuits. The objectives were twofold: (1) to identify and investigate problem areas that could result from the use of organic adhesives and (2) to develop evaluation tests to quantify the extent to which these problems occur for commercially available adhesives. Efforts were focused on electrically conductive adhesives. Also, a study was made to evaluate selected organic coatings for contamination protection for hybrid microcircuits
