    Two-particle scattering theory for anyons

    We consider potential scattering theory of a nonrelativistic quantum mechanical 2-particle system in R^2 with anyon statistics. Sufficient conditions are given which guarantee the existence of wave operators and the unitarity of the S-matrix. As examples the rotationally invariant potential well and the delta-function potential are discussed in detail. In case of a general rotationally invariant potential the angular momentum decomposition leads to a theory of Jost functions. The anyon statistics parameter gives rise to an interpolation for angular momenta analogous to the Regge trajectories for complex angular momenta. Levinson's theorem is adapted to the present context.     Relativistic coupled-cluster single-double calculations of positron-atom bound states

    Relativistic coupled-cluster single-double approximation is used to calculate positron-atom bound states. The method is tested on closed-shell atoms such as Be, Mg, Ca, Zn, Cd, and Hg where a number of accurate calculations is available. It is then used to calculate positron binding energies for a range of open-shell transition metal atoms from Sc to Cu, from Y to Pd, and from Lu to Pt. These systems possess Feshbach resonances, which can be used to search for positron-atom binding experimentally through resonant annihilation or scattering.Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev.

    Positronic lithium, an electronically stable Li-e+^+ ground state

    Calculations of the positron-Li system were performed using the Stochastic Variational Method and yielded a minimum energy of -7.53208 Hartree for the L=0 ground state. Unlike previous calculations of this system, the system was found to be stable against dissociation into the Ps + Li+^+ channel with a binding energy of 0.00217 Hartree and is therefore electronically stable. This is the first instance of a rigorous calculation predicting that it is possible to combine a positron with a neutral atom and form an electronically stable bound state.Comment: 11 pages, 2 tables.     Active diffusion and microtubule-based transport oppose myosin forces to position organelles in cells.

    Even distribution of peroxisomes (POs) and lipid droplets (LDs) is critical to their role in lipid and reactive oxygen species homeostasis. How even distribution is achieved remains elusive, but diffusive motion and directed motility may play a role. Here we show that in the fungus Ustilago maydis ∼95% of POs and LDs undergo diffusive motions. These movements require ATP and involve bidirectional early endosome motility, indicating that microtubule-associated membrane trafficking enhances diffusion of organelles. When early endosome transport is abolished, POs and LDs drift slowly towards the growing cell end. This pole-ward drift is facilitated by anterograde delivery of secretory cargo to the cell tip by myosin-5. Modelling reveals that microtubule-based directed transport and active diffusion support distribution, mobility and mixing of POs. In mammalian COS-7 cells, microtubules and F-actin also counteract each other to distribute POs.     Improving the Control of Listeria monocytogenes on No-Nitrateor-Nitrite-Added (Natural or Organic) Frankfurters with Clean Label Antimicrobials

    Consumers are critical of the ingredients used in the production of processed meat products. With the increased growth in natural and organic processed meats, suppliers have begun to offer clean label solutions to improve the safety of minimally processed foods. This study investigated the growth of Listeria monocytogenes on uncured, no-nitrate-or-nitrite-added frankfurters with or without clean-label antimicrobials, during a 120 day storage period. No-nitrate-or-nitrite-added brands with no antilisterial control measures exhibited a decreased lag time and shorter generation time for initiation of growth, resulting in a greater population of L. monocytogenes when compared to the sodium nitrite, sodium lactate/diacetate controls or alternatively cured products with clean label antimicrobials. Results indicate that clean label antimicrobials may serve as an effective intervention strategy for L. monocytogenes in the production of uncured, no-nitrate-or-nitrite-added (natural or organic) RTE meat products

    Development of ultra-light pixelated ladders for an ILC vertex detector

    The development of ultra-light pixelated ladders is motivated by the requirements of the ILD vertex detector at ILC. This paper summarizes three projects related to system integration. The PLUME project tackles the issue of assembling double-sided ladders. The SERWIETE project deals with a more innovative concept and consists in making single-sided unsupported ladders embedded in an extra thin plastic enveloppe. AIDA, the last project, aims at building a framework reproducing the experimental running conditions where sets of ladders could be tested

    Existence criteria for stabilization from the scaling behaviour of ionization probabilities

    We provide a systematic derivation of the scaling behaviour of various quantities and establish in particular the scale invariance of the ionization probability. We discuss the gauge invariance of the scaling properties and the manner in which they can be exploited as consistency check in explicit analytical expressions, in perturbation theory, in the Kramers-Henneberger and Floquet approximation, in upper and lower bound estimates and fully numerical solutions of the time dependent Schroedinger equation. The scaling invariance leads to a differential equation which has to be satisfied by the ionization probability and which yields an alternative criterium for the existence of atomic bound state stabilization.Comment: 12 pages of Latex, one figur
