Perturbation theory for non-abelian gauge theories at finite temperature is plagued by infrared divergences which are caused by magnetic soft modes ~ g2T, corresponding to gluon fields of a 3d Yang-Mills theory. While the divergences can be regulated by a dynamically generated magnetic mass on that scale, the gauge coupling drops out of the effective expansion parameter requiring summation of all loop orders for the calculation of observables. Some gauge invariant possibilities to implement such infrared-safe resummations are reviewed. We use a scheme based on the non-linear sigma model to estimate some of the contributions ~ g6 of the soft magnetic modes to the QCD pressure through two loops. The NLO contribution amounts to ~ 10% of the LO, suggestive of a reasonable convergence of the series

A Graph-Partition-Based Scheduling Policy for Heterogeneous Architectures

In order to improve system performance efficiently, a number of systems choose to equip multi-core and many-core processors (such as GPUs). Due to their discrete memory these heterogeneous architectures comprise a distributed system within a computer. A data-flow programming model is attractive in this setting for its ease of expressing concurrency. Programmers only need to define task dependencies without considering how to schedule them on the hardware. However, mapping the resulting task graph onto hardware efficiently remains a challenge. In this paper, we propose a graph-partition scheduling policy for mapping data-flow workloads to heterogeneous hardware. According to our experiments, our graph-partition-based scheduling achieves comparable performance to conventional queue-base approaches.Comment: Presented at DATE Friday Workshop on Heterogeneous Architectures and Design Methods for Embedded Image Systems (HIS 2015) (arXiv:1502.07241

Permutation Games for the Weakly Aconjunctive μ\mu-Calculus

We introduce a natural notion of limit-deterministic parity automata and present a method that uses such automata to construct satisfiability games for the weakly aconjunctive fragment of the μ\mu-calculus. To this end we devise a method that determinizes limit-deterministic parity automata of size nn with kk priorities through limit-deterministic B\"uchi automata to deterministic parity automata of size O((nk)!)\mathcal{O}((nk)!) and with O(nk)\mathcal{O}(nk) priorities. The construction relies on limit-determinism to avoid the full complexity of the Safra/Piterman-construction by using partial permutations of states in place of Safra-Trees. By showing that limit-deterministic parity automata can be used to recognize unsuccessful branches in pre-tableaux for the weakly aconjunctive μ\mu-calculus, we obtain satisfiability games of size O((nk)!)\mathcal{O}((nk)!) with O(nk)\mathcal{O}(nk) priorities for weakly aconjunctive input formulas of size nn and alternation-depth kk. A prototypical implementation that employs a tableau-based global caching algorithm to solve these games on-the-fly shows promising initial results

Bonding in PdCl(NO) and Related Nitrosylmetal Species of the Enemark–Feltham {MNO}10Type

The crystal-structure analysis of the coordination polymer PdCl(NO) (1) by Evers et al. shows a two-dimensional PdCl network of four-coordinate Pd atoms and triply bridging chlorido ligands. The fourth ligand at Pd is a terminally bonded nitrosyl ligand in a bent PdNO function (Pd−N−O=129°). In terms of the Enemark–Feltham notation, 1 is an {MNO}10 compound which leaves a choice regarding the assignment of the ten electrons as d10-Pd0Cl−(NO+), d9-PdICl−(NO) or d8-PdIICl−(NO−) with 0, 1 and 2 electrons allocated at the nitrosyl ligand, respectively. The quantum-chemical treatment by DFT methods and subsequent determination of the oxidation states (OSs) by Salvador's Effective-OS (EOS) method shows highly covalent Pd−NO bonds which narrowly end up on the Pd0Cl−(NO+) side in the course of the OS assignment's heterolytic bond-cleavage procedure. Related halonitrosyls are included to examine the obvious suitability of both linear and bent MNO units as ‘ground-state canditates’ of {MNO}10 systems. Local-mode analysis confirmed the recently formulated weakening of both the metal−nitrosyl and the N−O bond on bending a linear MNO function
