Three-jet angular correlations and subjet distributions at ZEUS
Besides structure function measurements and jet physics, there is a lively
collection of more specific QCD analyses at HERA. In this contribution we
present three-jet angular correlations and subjet distributions measured in ep
collisions with the ZEUS detector. The angular correlations provide sensitivity
to the color factors of the underlying gauge group and thus facilitate tests of
basic properties of the strong interaction. The subjet distributions allow
tests of the QCD radiation pattern within a jet in the perturbative regime.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, talk given on behalf of the ZEUS collaboration at

Configuration of the ATLAS Trigger System
In this paper a conceptual overview is given of the software foreseen to
configure the ATLAS trigger system. Two functional software prototypes have
been developed to configure the ATLAS Level-1 emulation and the High-Level
Trigger software. Emphasis has been put so far on following a consistent
approach between the two trigger systems and on addressing their requirements,
taking into account the specific use-case of the `Region-of-Interest' mechanism
for the ATLAS Level-2 trigger. In the future the configuration of the two
systems will be combined to ensure a consistent selection configuration for the

How do particle physicists learn the programming concepts they need?
The ability to read, use and develop code efficiently and successfully is a
key ingredient in modern particle physics. We report the experience of a
training program, identified as "Advanced Programming Concepts", that
introduces software concepts, methods and techniques to work effectively on a
daily basis in a HEP experiment or other programming intensive fields. This
paper illustrates the principles, motivations and methods that shape the
"Advanced Computing Concepts" training program, the knowledge base that it
conveys, an analysis of the feedback received so far, and the integration of
these concepts in the software development process of the experiments as well

The Algorithm Steering and Trigger Decision mechanism of the ATLAS High Level Trigger
Given the extremely high output rate foreseen at LHC and the general-purpose
nature of ATLAS experiment, an efficient and flexible way to select events in
the High Level Trigger is needed. An extremely flexible solution is proposed
that allows for early rejection of unwanted events and an easily configurable
way to choose algorithms and to specify the criteria for trigger decisions. It
is implemented in the standard ATLAS object-oriented software framework,
Athena. The early rejection is achieved by breaking the decision process down
into sequential steps. The configuration of each step defines sequences of
algorithms which should be used to process the data, and 'trigger menus' that
define which physics signatures must be satisfied to continue on to the next
step, and ultimately to accept the event. A navigation system has been built on
top of the standard Athena transient store (StoreGate) to link the event data
together in a tree-like structure. This is fundamental to the seeding
mechanism, by which data from one step is presented to the next. The design
makes it straightforward to utilize existing off-line reconstruction data

Combined QCD and electroweak analysis of HERA data
A simultaneous fit of parton distribution functions (PDFs) and electroweak
parameters to HERA data on deep inelastic scattering is presented. The input
data are the neutral current and charged current inclusive cross sections which
were previously used in the QCD analysis leading to the HERAPDF2.0 PDFs. In
addition, the polarisation of the electron beam was taken into account for the
ZEUS data recorded between 2004 and 2007. Results on the vector and
axial-vector couplings of the Z boson to u- and d-type quarks, on the value of
the electroweak mixing angle and the mass of the W boson are presented. The
values obtained for the electroweak parameters are in agreement with Standard

Search for a narrow baryonic state decaying to and in deep inelastic scattering at HERA
A search for a narrow baryonic state in the and
system has been performed in collisions at HERA with the ZEUS detector
using an integrated luminosity of 358 pb taken in 2003-2007. The search
was performed with deep inelastic scattering events at an centre-of-mass
energy of 318 GeV for exchanged photon virtuality, , between 20 and 100
. Contrary to evidence presented for such a state around 1.52
GeV in a previous ZEUS analysis using a sample of 121 pb taken in
1996-2000, no resonance peak was found in the invariant-mass
distribution in the range 1.45-1.7 GeV. Upper limits on the production cross

Measurement of neutral current e+/-p cross sections at high Bjorken x with the ZEUS detector
The neutral current e+/-p cross section has been measured up to values of
Bjorken x of approximately 1 with the ZEUS detector at HERA using an integrated
luminosity of 187 inv. pb of e-p and 142 inv. pb of e+p collisions at sqrt(s) =
318GeV. Differential cross sections in x and Q2, the exchanged boson
virtuality, are presented for Q2 geq 725GeV2. An improved reconstruction method
and greatly increased amount of data allows a finer binning in the high-x
region of the neutral current cross section and leads to a measurement with
much improved precision compared to a similar earlier analysis. The
measurements are compared to Standard Model expectations based on a variety of
