Cross-National Logo Evaluation Analysis: An Individual Level Approach
The universality of design perception and response is tested using data collected from ten countries: Argentina, Australia, China, Germany, Great Britain, India, the Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, and the United States. A Bayesian, finite-mixture, structural-equation model is developed that identifies latent logo clusters while accounting for heterogeneity in evaluations. The concomitant variable approach allows cluster probabilities to be country specific. Rather than a priori defined clusters, our procedure provides a posteriori cross-national logo clusters based on consumer response similarity. To compare the a posteriori cross-national logo clusters, our approach is integrated with Steenkamp and BaumgartnerĂąâŹâąs (1998) measurement invariance methodology. Our model reduces the ten countries to three cross-national clusters that respond differently to logo design dimensions: the West, Asia, and Russia. The dimensions underlying design are found to be similar across countries, suggesting that elaborateness, naturalness, and harmony are universal design dimensions. Responses (affect, shared meaning, subjective familiarity, and true and false recognition) to logo design dimensions (elaborateness, naturalness, and harmony) and elements (repetition, proportion, and parallelism) are also relatively consistent, although we find minor differences across clusters. CD20-targeting immunotherapy promotes cellular senescence in B-cell lymphoma
The CD20-targeting monoclonal antibody Rituximab is an established component of immunochemotherapeutic regimens against B-cell lymphomas, where its co-administration with conventional anti-cancer agents has significantly improved long-term outcome. However, the cellular mechanisms by which Rituximab exerts its anti-lymphoma activity are only partially understood. We show here that Rituximab induces typical features of cellular senescence, a long-term growth arrest of viable cells with distinct biological properties, in established B-cell lymphoma cell lines as well as primary transformed B-cells. In addition, Rituximab-based immunotherapy sensitized lymphoma cells to senescence induction by the chemotherapeutic compound Adriamycin (a.k.a. Doxorubicin), and, to a lesser extent, by the antimicrotubule agent Vincristine. Anti-CD20 treatment further enhanced secretion of senescence-associated cytokines, and augmented the DNA damage response (DDR) signaling cascade triggered by Adriamycin. As the underlying pro-senescence mechanism, we found intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels to be elevated in response to Rituximab, and, in turn, the ROS scavenger N-acetylcysteine (NAC) to largely abrogate Rituximab-mediated senescence. Our results, further supported by gene set enrichment analyses in a clinical data set of chronic lymphocytic leukemia patient samples exposed to a Rituximab-containing treatment regimen, provide important mechanistic insights into the biological complexity of anti-CD20-evoked tumor responses, and unveil cellular senescence as a hitherto unrecognized effector principle of the antibody component in lymphoma immunochemotherapy
Tumor stroma-derived TGF-beta limits Myc-driven lymphomagenesis via Suv39h1-dependent senescence
Activated RAS/BRAF oncogenes induce cellular senescence as a tumor-suppressive barrier in early cancer development, at least in part, via an oncogene-evoked DNA damage response (DDR). In contrast, Myc activation-although producing a DDR as well-is known to primarily elicit an apoptotic countermeasure. Using the Emu-myc transgenic mouse lymphoma model, we show here in vivo that apoptotic lymphoma cells activate macrophages to secrete transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) as a critical non-cell-autonomous inducer of cellular senescence. Accordingly, neutralization of TGF-beta action, like genetic inactivation of the senescence-related histone methyltransferase Suv39h1, significantly accelerates Myc-driven tumor development via cancellation of cellular senescence. These findings, recapitulated in human aggressive B cell lymphomas, demonstrate that tumor-prompted stroma-derived signals may limit tumorigenesis by feedback senescence induction
Macroscopic quantum superpositions in highly-excited strongly-interacting many-body systems
We demonstrate a break-down in the macroscopic (classical-like) dynamics of
wave-packets in complex microscopic and mesoscopic collisions. This break-down
manifests itself in coherent superpositions of the rotating clockwise and
anticlockwise wave-packets in the regime of strongly overlapping many-body
resonances of the highly-excited intermediate complex. These superpositions
involve many-body configurations so that their internal interactive
complexity dramatically exceeds all of those previously discussed and
experimentally realized. The interference fringes persist over a time-interval
much longer than the energy relaxation-redistribution time due to the
anomalously slow phase randomization (dephasing). Experimental verification of

Several organizations from multiple fields of medicine are setting standards for clinical research including protocol development,1 harmonization of outcome reporting,2 statistical analysis,3 quality assessment4 and reporting of findings.1 Clinical research standardization facilitates the interpretation and synthesis of data, increases the usability of trial results for guideline groups and shared decisionâmaking, and reduces selective outcome reporting bias. The mission of the Harmonising Outcome Measures for Eczema (HOME) initiative is to establish an agreedâupon core set of outcomes to be measured and reported in all clinical trials of atopic dermatitis (AD)
Ultrasound attenuation in gap-anisotropic systems
Transverse ultrasound attenuation provides a weakly-coupled probe of momentum
current correlations in electronic systems. We develop a simple theory for the
interpretation of transverse ultrasound attenuation coefficients in systems
with nodal gap anisotropy. Applying this theory we show how ultrasound can
delineate between extended-s and d-wave scenarios for the cuprate

Hopf algebras and Markov chains: Two examples and a theory
The operation of squaring (coproduct followed by product) in a combinatorial
Hopf algebra is shown to induce a Markov chain in natural bases. Chains
constructed in this way include widely studied methods of card shuffling, a
natural "rock-breaking" process, and Markov chains on simplicial complexes.
Many of these chains can be explictly diagonalized using the primitive elements
of the algebra and the combinatorics of the free Lie algebra. For card
shuffling, this gives an explicit description of the eigenvectors. For
rock-breaking, an explicit description of the quasi-stationary distribution and

Super-conservative interpretation of muon g-2 results applied to supersymmetry
The recent developments in theory and experiment related to the anomalous
magnetic moment of the muon are applied to supersymmetry. We follow a very
cautious course, demanding that the supersymmetric contributions fit within
five standard deviations of the difference between experiment and the standard
model prediction. Arbitrarily small supersymmetric contributions are then
allowed, so no upper bounds on superpartner masses result. Nevertheless,
non-trivial exclusions are found. We characterize the substantial region of
parameter space ruled out by this analysis that has not been probed by any
previous experiment. We also discuss some implications of the results for

Magnetic polarons in weakly doped high-Tc superconductors
We consider a spin Hamiltonian describing - exchange interactions
between localized spins of a finite antiferromagnet as well as -
interactions between a conducting hole () and localized spins. The spin
Hamiltonian is solved numerically with use of Lanczos method of
diagonalization. We conclude that - exchange interaction leads to
localization of magnetic polarons. Quantum fluctuations of the antiferromagnet
strengthen this effect and make the formation of polarons localized in one site
possible even for weak - coupling. Total energy calculations, including
the kinetic energy, do not change essentially the phase diagram of magnetic
polarons formation. For parameters reasonable for high- superconductors
either a polaron localized on one lattice cell or a small ferron can form. For
reasonable values of the dielectric function and - coupling, the
contributions of magnetic and phonon terms in the formation of a polaron in

Single-hole properties in the - and strong-coupling models
We report numerical results for the single-hole properties in the -
model and the strong-coupling approximation to the Hubbard model in two
dimensions. Using the hopping basis with over states we discuss (for an
infinite system) the bandwidth, the leading Fourier coefficients in the
dispersion, the band masses, and the spin-spin correlations near the hole. We
compare our results with those obtained by other methods. The band minimum is
found to be at () for the - model for , and for the strong-coupling model for . The bandwidth
in both models is approximately at large , in rough agreement with
loop-expansion results but in disagreement with other results. The
strong-coupling bandwidth for t/J\agt6 can be obtained from the - model
by treating the three-site terms in first-order perturbation theory. The
dispersion along the magnetic zone face is flat, giving a large
