Geophysical and Biological Reconnaissance of Rock Habitats in Western Camden Bay, Beaufort Sea, Alaska

This report presents the results of a 10-day geophysical and biological survey in western Camden Bay, in the Alaskan Beaufort Sea. The primary objective of this survey was to confirm the existence of boulders and cobbles on the seafloor as reported by Barnes (1981, 1982). The survey area extended from the eastern edge of the Canning River (mud flat area) to Kangigivik Point and seaward to the 14m contour line (Fig. 1). A solid boundary of pack ice prevented any survey work seaward of the 14m contour. We had proposed to examine the seabed to the 18m contour. This work was supported by the Bureau of Land Management through an interagency agreement with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, under which a multiyear program responding to needs of petroleum development of the Alaskan Continental Shelf is managed by the Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program (OCSEAP) office

Checklist for Planning a Successful Meeting (1993)

"Reviewed October 1993."Much time, energy and other resources go into planning and holding meetings. The purpose of a meeting should be to bring about desired change in a specific group of people or target audience. This change could be in terms of knowledge, skills, attitudes or aspirations. A meeting can be judged successful to the extent planned objectives are reached. Success is viewed from both the standpoint of those planning the meeting and the target audience

The effects of quantization on signal processing

    Get PDF
Typically an analog signal from a space system is sampled, quantized by Analog-to-Digital (A/D) conversion, merged into a bit stream, communicated to a ground station, received by the ground station, and processed by the ground station to extract useful information for dissemination to the users. The cost of each of these steps is reduced as the number of quantization steps is reduced in the A/D converter. The number of quantization steps should be as small as possible without losing the required information content. This report deals specifically with the accuracy of averages as a function of the number of quantized samples used to compute the averages with the noise on the analog signal as a parameter. For example, the success of the Visible Infrared Spin Scan Radiometer (VISSR) Atmospheric Sounder (VAS) Demonstration depends upon temporally averaging multiple samples in an effort to reduce noise to a sufficiently low level such that temperature profile sounding is made possible. A tutorial description of this process is presented

A study of detecting child pornography on smart phone

© Springer International Publishing AG 2018. Child Pornography is an increasingly visible rising cybercrime in the world today. Over the past decade, with rapid growth in smart phone usage, readily available free Cloud Computing storage, and various mobile communication apps, child pornographers have found a convenient and reliable mobile platform for instantly sharing pictures or videos of children being sexually abused. Within this new paradigm, law enforcement officers are finding that detecting, gathering, and processing evidence for the prosecution of child pornographers is becoming increasingly challenging. Deep learning is a machine learning method that models high-level abstractions in data and extracts hierarchical representations of data by using a deep graph with multiple processing layers. This paper presents a conceptual model of deep learning approach for detecting child pornography within the new paradigm by using log analysis, file name analysis and cell site analysis which investigate text logs of events that have happened in the smart phone at the scene of the crime using physical and logical acquisition to assists law enforcement officers in gathering and processing child pornography evidence for prosecution. In addition, this paper shows an illustrative example of logical and physical acquisition on smart phones using forensics tools

Monitoring the Vernal Advancement and Retrogradation (Green Wave Effect) of Natural Vegetation

The author has identified the following significant results. The Great Plains Corridor rangeland project successfully utilized natural vegetation systems as phenological indicators of seasonal development and climatic effects upon regional growth conditions. An effective method was developed for quantitative measurement of vegetation conditions, including green biomass estimates, recorded in bands 5 and 6, corrected for sun angle, were used to compute a ratio parameter (TV16) which is shown to be highly correlated with green biomass and vegatation moisture content. Analyses results of ERTS-1 digital data and correlated ground data are summarized. Attention was given to analyzing weather influences and test site variables on vegetation condition measurements with ERTS-1 data
