The leadership of Dutch housing corporations is subject of a professional and public discussion. Fiascos with goa;-displaced projects and activities, integrity violations, and prosecuted cases of fraud have been attributed to the CEO's of approximately 30 housingcorporations. Among them former focal actors in the institutional field of the sector.A association of larger housingcorporations has invited two scholars to reflect on possibilities for a reform of the leadership of the housing corporations. Part of the reform is a change in attitute to actors in their environment. Modesty and a preparedness to interact without striving for dominance are aspects of the new attitute. Not only benevolence, also ability and integrity have to be showed to thje public in order to regain public credibility

Ilnytska et al. unveiled in Cell Host & Microbe that enteroviruses usurp clathrin-mediated endocytosis to shuttle cholesterol to sites of genome replication and that cholesterol is needed for efficient replication

In dit artikel maken wij de koppeling tussen deze recentere inzichten over de negatieve kant van leiderschap en excessen in de corporatiesector. Daartoe bespreken we zes casussen aan de hand van factoren die volgens de theorie een rol spelen bij ontspoord leiderschap. De factoren uit de literatuur over ontspoord leiderschap zien we terug in de casussen in de corporatiesector. Ook zien we dat veel van dezelfde factoren een rol speelden bij alle casussen, hoewel de uiting van de ontsporing verschilde. Dit doet vermoeden dat het juist de combinatie van factoren is die de kans op ontsporing vergroot

Van lef en lof naar schade en schande: Een analyse van ontsporing van leiderschap bij zes woningcorporaties

Er is veel onderzoek gedaan naar leiderschap en corporaties liggen onder de loep van een parlementaire enquêtecommissie. Maar de combinatie van beide –leiderschap in de corporatiesector– is maar zelden onderzocht. Dat is opvallend omdat bestuurders een zware stempel kunnen drukken op het beleid van corporaties. Dus hebben ze ook grote invloed op de excessen die een belangrijke aanleiding waren voor de parlementaire enquête. In literatuur over leiderschap is er lange tijd vooral aandacht geweest voor de positieve kant van leiderschap, over hoe bestuurders de prestaties kunnen verbeteren. De laatste jaren wordt meer bekend over hoe bestuurders schade kunnen berokkenen. In dit onderzoek maken wij de koppeling tussen deze recentere inzichten over de negatieve kant van leiderschap en excessen in de corporatiesector. Daartoe bespreken we zes casussen aan de hand van factoren die volgens de theorie een rol spelen bij ontspoord leiderschap. Escaping Host Factor PI4KB Inhibition: Enterovirus Genomic RNA Replication in the Absence of Replication Organelles

Although enterovirus replication depends on phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase type IIIbeta (PI4KB), its role, and that of its product, phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PI4P), is only partially understood. Exploiting a mutant coxsackievirus resistant to PI4KB inhibition, we show that PI4KB activity has distinct functions both in proteolytic processing of the viral polyprotein and in RO biogenesis. The escape mutation rectifies a proteolytic processing defect imposed by PI4KB inhibition, pointing to a possible escape mechanism. Remarkably, under PI4KB inhibition, the mutant virus could replicate its genome in the absence of ROs, using instead the Golgi apparatus. This impaired RO biogenesis provided an opportunity to investigate the proposed role of ROs in shielding enteroviral RNA from cellular sensors. Neither accelerated sensing of viral RNA nor enhanced innate immune responses was observed.
