Coping strategies as mediators within the relationship between emotion-regulation and perceived stress in teachers

    Get PDF
The aim of the present study was to examine whether different coping strategies (focus on positive, support coping, active coping and evasive coping) mediate the relationship between emotion-regulation (i.e., emotion acceptance skills, emotion resilience skills and emotion regulation skills) and perceived stress in physical education (PE) teachers. The sample consisted of 457 PE pre-service teachers. Results show that evasive coping strategies partly negatively mediate the relationship between emotion resilience skills and emotion regulation and perceived stress. Therefore, emotion-regulation might protect against using evasive coping strategies, which have been found to be related to higher stress in previous studies.peer-reviewe

    Heuristiken im Service Operations Management

This doctoral thesis deals with the application of operation research methods in practice. With two cooperation companies from the service sector (retailing and healthcare), three practice-relevant decision problems are jointly elicited and defined. Subsequently, the planning problems are transferred into mathematical problems and solved with the help of optimal and/or heuristic methods. The status quo of the companies could be significantly improved for all the problems dealt with.

Construction and test of a moving boundary model for negative streamer discharges

Starting from the minimal model for the electrically interacting particle densities in negative streamer discharges, we derive a moving boundary approximation for the ionization fronts. The boundary condition on the moving front is found to be of 'kinetic undercooling' type. The boundary approximation, whose first results have been published in [Meulenbroek et al., PRL 95, 195004 (2005)], is then tested against 2-dimensional simulations of the density model. The results suggest that our moving boundary approximation adequately represents the essential dynamics of negative streamer fronts.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures; submitted to Phys. Rev.

Principal Flow Patterns across renewable electricity networks

Using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), the nodal injection and line flow patterns in a network model of a future highly renewable European electricity system are investigated. It is shown that the number of principal components needed to describe 95%\% of the nodal power injection variance first increases with the spatial resolution of the system representation. The number of relevant components then saturates at around 76 components for network sizes larger than 512 nodes, which can be related to the correlation length of wind patterns over Europe. Remarkably, the application of PCA to the transmission line power flow statistics shows that irrespective of the spatial scale of the system representation a very low number of only 8 principal flow patterns is sufficient to capture 95%\% of the corresponding spatio-temporal variance. This result can be theoretically explained by a particular alignment of some principal injection patterns with topological patterns inherent to the network structure of the European transmission system

STRATEGIC DATA PRIVACY POSITIONS: AN EXPLORATORY ANALYSIS OF FORBES GLOBAL 2000 COMPANIES

Data privacy has become a strategic issue. Companies increasingly rely on personal data to advance their business models. However, in doing so they must address ever-growing customer concerns, thus necessitating that they go beyond merely complying with regulations. Strategic privacy principles that reflect strategic privacy choices are the fundamental pillars for companies’ privacy strategies. Our data set covers strategic privacy principles from 171 Forbes Global 2000 companies that communicate them externally. Our preliminary results show that these companies take six different positions on data privacy. The positions are those of trust builders, data shepherds, data professionals, data caretakers, privacy minimalists and data justifiers. Executives can leverage our insights to actively influence the positioning of their company by defining or adapting its strategic privacy principles. Moreover, our clustering results provide a basis for further analysis of strategic privacy positions, the results of which may have implications for companies’ financial performance

Three-Electron Dynamics of the Interparticle Coulombic Decay in Doubly Excited Clusters with One-Dimensional Continuum Confinement

A detailed analysis of the electronic structure and decay dynamics in a symmetric system with three electrons in three linearly aligned binding sites representing quantum dots (QDs) is given. The two outer A QDs are two-level potentials and can act as (virtual) photon emitters, whereas the central B QD can be ionized from its one level into a continuum confined on the QD axis upon absorbing virtual photons in the inter-Coulombic decay (ICD) process. Two scenarios in such an ABA array are explored. One ICD process is from a singly excited resonance state, whose decay releasing one virtual photon we find superimposed with resonance energy transfer among both A QDs. Moreover, the decay-process manifold for a doubly excited (DE) resonance is explored, in which collective ICD among all three sites and excited ICD among the outer QDs engage. Rates for all processes are found to be extremely low, although ICD rates with two neighbors are predicted to double compared to ICD among two sites only. The slowing is caused by Coulomb barriers imposed from ground or excited state electrons in the A sites. Outliers occur on the one hand at short distances, where the charge transfer among QDs mixes the possible decay pathways. On the other hand, we discovered a shape resonance-enhanced DE-ICD pathway, in which an excited and localized B∗ shape resonance state forms, which is able to decay quickly into the final ICD continuum
