    Use of fly ash as an alternative filler material in PVC-pastisols

Therefore, - 38 .m Soma fly ash sample was used and its results were compared with that of calcite material as a filler. Therefore, this study was conducted to have three sections as: 1) Characterization of powders calcite, fly ash and PVC powder: SEM, XRF, XRD, Size measurement, 2) Preparation and characterization of PVC plastisols with and without fly ash: Rheological measurements 3) Characterization of final PVC product: Surface, hardness and strength tests. The results of fly ash were always compared with the results of calcite and discussed in this thesis. It was suggested that fly ash could be an alternative filling material for PVC plastisols. It.s effect, on the other hand, was found to change depending on the temperature, mixing speed and concentration. In overall, the mechanical properties of PVC-product obtained were affected positively and better PVC materials were obtained. Under some conditions, however, the rheological properties were became shear thickening while it was newtonian and shear thining before. The changes in the rheological properties of PVC plastisols and the mechanical properties (quality) of final PVC-product were all explained by the differences in the composition and shape of the fly ash particles. Because, the composition and shape of the particles are expected to affect the interactions of PVC particles with that of filler material which will definetely affect the quality of material

    LEGAL DISPUTES: EXPERIENCED BY THE BALKAN MIGRANTS IN TURKEY

    In terms of "migration" which is a concept dating back to the history of humanity,Turkey plays an important role as a transit country for the migrants, as being located on the migratory route of Middle East and Central Asia and also as acountry letting in migrants from these regions along with the muslims and Turkish descendants from the Balkans due to many reasons. The problems of the migrants are not resolved upon their arrival in the country allowing the migration, on the contrary, these people face with new problems therein. Legal disputes experienced by the Balkan Migrants in Turkey, which is the subject of this study, have been considered with regard to the concrete examples of Bulgarian migrants.The arrivals of Bulgarian migrants to Turkey took place in various periods and few of these migrations were planned but as the majority of these were unplanned andmassive, the number of the problems, which were faced, increased. The migrations realized between 1923 - 1933 were planned and there were not many problems regarding especially the accomodation and habitation, as Turkey had been prepared for this. During the following periods, it is seen that the migrants faced problems due to the outbreak of planned migrations, in spite of Turkey's good will.Especially, the efforts of the Government to provide housing for the migrants of 1989 failed and the migrants were distressed. Although the legal remedy proposed for the relief of this distress was not sufficient, upon the decree of annulment by the Constitutional Court, further distress of the migrants was prevented.The "retirement" issue experienced by the migrants of 1989 regarding social security was tried to be resolved by the decisions of the Council of State and the Supreme Court of Appeals at first and later a more solid solution was generated upon the amendment in the related legislations.Regarding the resolution of the mentioned problems of the migrants, the significance of the support of both High Courts can be seen. The decisions of the these courts constitute the most important part of this study.The majority of the problems faced by the migrants is related to the country they come from and the solution depends on the negotiations between Turkey and Bulgaria

    Epiduroscopy (Epidural Endoscopy)

    Epiduroscopy is a relatively new technique used in the evaluation and treatment of low back pain via advancements in optical fiber technology. As a minimally invasive endoscopic technique, it allows for direct endoscopic imaging of the epidural space and helps the patients for the pain management who having post–lumbar surgery syndrome (PLSS) and other cases of low back pain and radiculopathy. An advanced understanding of the anatomy of epidural space and adjacent structures are also essential for positive and successful clinical outcomes. The use of epiduroscopy in the pain clinic is performed as a day procedure, and the patient is awake and can communicate with the doctor. During an epiduroscopy, thin tubes with a bright light and tiny fiberoptic camera at the end are inserted through the sacral hiatus into the epidural space around the dura and guided up toward the affected site. Anterior epiduroscopy and epiduroscopic laser neural decompression (ELND) have been recently introduced in treating herniated disc decompressions, and chronic low back pain and radicular pain, respectively. The most common complications of epiduroscopic approach are the pain in the intervention point, dural puncture, and headache

    Alkaloids have been known for several centuries and have been mainly obtained from natural sources that presented important properties with biochemical, pharmacological, and medical effects in living organisms. Alkaloids are derived from amino acids like other important molecules in the functioning of life in our body. Hence, alkaloids are considered as pharmacologically important. Alkaloids are secondary metabolites widely distributed in leaves, stem, root, and fruits of plants which synthesize them. However, administration and consumption of them at right doses are beneficial in terms of health; excess doses will be definitely poisonous and may cause even death. The pharmacological activities of alkaloids are quite diverse. They are important natural products with a wide range of medicinal properties including relief of pain (e.g., morphine), analgesic (e.g., codeine), antiarrhythmic (e.g., quinidine), antibacterial (e.g., chelerythrine), antiasthma (e.g., ephedrine), cholinomimetic (e.g., galantamine), and vasodilatory (e.g., vincamine)

    Skull Base Osteomyelitis in the Emergency Department: A Case Report

    Skull base osteomyelitis (SBO) is a rare clinical presentation and usually occurs as a complication of trauma or sinusitis. A 5-year-old child presented to the emergency department with a three-week history of fever associated with drowsiness and left parietal headache, and a week's history of swelling on the left frontoparietal soft tissue. He had suffered a penetrating scalp injury four month ago. On physical examination, there was a tender swelling with purulent stream on the lateral half of his scalp. His vital signs are within normal limits. Plain X-ray of the skull showed a lytic lesion on the left frontoparietal bone. A cranial computed tomography (CT) scan demonstrated a large subgaleal abscess at the left frontoparietal region. SBO possesses a high morbidity and mortality; therefore, prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment are mandatory to prevent further complications and to reduce morbidity and mortality significantly

    Heavy metal pollution in surface sediment and mussel samples in the Gulf of Gemlik

    Sediment quality data provide essential information for evaluating ambient environmental quality conditions. An evaluation is presented of heavy metal pollution, on the basis of statistical analysis of metal concentrations from the sediments of the Gulf of Gemlik, southeastern Marmara Sea, Turkey, which has been subject to high levels of pollution. The ranges for heavy metal concentrations (Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn) at the 63 μm fractions. Not only large industrialized seaports but also resort areas throughout the Gulf are flagged as hotspots for elevated concentrations, generally higher compared to those from the other Turkish marine environment. The highest concentrations of Cr, Pb, and Ni were measured in the outer part of the Gulf, while the highest concentrations of Cu were documented offshore the main rivers. While the concentrations of Cr, Fe, Mn and Ni in some stations approach the severe effect level given in various sediment quality guidelines, the concentrations of the most human-related metals (Cd and Zn) in the mussels collected from the Port Mudanya were higher than the acceptable values for human consumption set by various health organizations.The research fund of the Istanbul University; project UDP-200

    Hemodynamic Monitoring Using A Pulse Counter Vigileo Flotrac Cardiac Output System In Transapical Off-Pump Minimally Invasive Mitral Valve Repair

    The aim of this study was to present our anesthetic management and early hemodynamic recovery after transapical off-pump neochords implantation. Observational prospective study. The perioperative records of 13 patients who underwent mitral valve repair using the Neochord DS1000 system were analyzed. Hemodynamic measurements recorded with the Vigileo Flotrac invasive arterial cardiac output system were evaluated. Thirteen patients were included in the study. Transfusions of a total of 2 U of erythrocytes and 11 U of plasma were performed. After Neochord implantation, the mean cardiac output increased at a statistically significant level according to the values measured after induction p = 0.003. Increased cardiac output measurement after placement of the neochordaes and elimination of insufficiency have emerged as indications of early hemodynamic recover
