    The golden mahseer (Tor putitora) is an important and high valued sport and food fish of national and international importance. Therefore for promotion of golden mahseer, proper mineral supplementation in early developmental stages is very important. The present study evaluated the effects of dietary zinc on growth, survivaland physiological response of Tor putitora fry. One thousand eight hundred fry (avg.wt 54.35┬▒3.09 mg) were randomly distributed into 6 treatment groups with triplicates each. Six iso-nitrogenous (40┬▒0.02% to 41.44┬▒0.01% crude protein) semi-purified diets were prepared with graded levels of dietary zinc. Zinc sulphate was added as the dietary zinc source to the basal diet. The results indicated that specific growth rate (SGR) was of value 2.52 ┬▒0.23 gm of T. putitora fry which increased with dietary zinc levels up to a concentration of 40 mg Zn Kg-1 in diet. The zinc dependent metabolic enzymes and antioxidant enzymes was also observed to be highest in groups supplemented with 40 mg zinc/kg feed. The overall results of the present study suggest the efficacy of dietary zinc on growth, survival and physiological response of golden mahseer fry in order to garner the possibility of establishing the species to commercial aquaculture

    Commercial lobster fishery in Mumbai issupported mainly by rock lobster, Panulirus polyphagus. It is caught throughout the year, but the fishery displays seasonal abundance during September-December. During September'06 an unprecedented high catch (Fig. 1) of rock lobster was landed by trawlers at New Ferry Wharf. On 2-9-06,ninety-three trawlers landed about 8.8 t of rock lobster with an average catch of 95 kg per trawler. The fishing ground was towards north west at a depth of 40-50 m and the fishing continued for 8-10 days. The other major catch on that day was ribbon fish (65.1 t) and sciaenids (55.8 t) but the prawn catch was extremely poor. The total income generated by lobsters alone was Rs. 50 lakhs, which was about 50% of the total income generated from the entire fish catch

    The experiment was conducted to investigate the embryonic development of discus (Symphysodon aequifasiatus) and determine the time required for major egg developmental stages and hatching. Regular observations were made using optical microscope and the images were recorded using a digital camera attached to the microscope. Important water quality parameters were kept optimal for the hatching of discus eggs. Newly laid eggs were oval-shaped and yellow in colour with an average diameter of 1.37 ┬▒ 0.14 mm. The embryonic development of fertilized eggs was divided into 16 stages and the development of each stage was recorded in times lapse. The result revealed that cleavage occurred after 1hr after fertilization followed by development of blastula and gastrula at 20.5 hr and 24 hr after fertilization respectively. The period of organogenesis started with the formation of embryonic notochord from 37.5 hrs after fertilization. The appearance of a defined head and tail of the embryo with 19 somites was observed at 40.0 hrs after fertilization, whereas heart beat along with blood circulation appeared after 55.5 hrs after fertilization. The eggs hatched after 69.06 hr after fertilization

    Developability Assessment of Physicochemical Properties and Stability Profiles of HIV-1 BG505 SOSIP.664 and BG505 SOSIP.v4.1-GT1.1 gp140 Envelope Glycoprotein Trimers as Candidate Vaccine Antigens

    This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.The induction of broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs) is a major goal in the development of an effective vaccine against HIV-1. A soluble, trimeric, germline (gI) bNAb-targeting variant of the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein (termed BG505 SOSIP.v4.1-GT1.1 gp140, abbreviated to GT1.1) has recently been developed. Here, we have compared this new immunogen with the parental trimer from which it was derived, BG505 SOSIP.664 gp140. We used a comprehensive suite of biochemical and biophysical methods to determine physicochemical similarities and differences between the 2 trimers, and thereby assessed whether additional formulation development efforts were needed for the GT1.1 vaccine candidate. The overall higher order structure and oligomeric states of the 2 vaccine antigens were quite similar, as were their thermal, chemical, and colloidal stability profiles, as evaluated during accelerated stability studies. Overall, we conclude that the primary sequence changes made to create the gl bNAb-targeting GT1.1 trimer did not detrimentally affect its physicochemical properties or stability profiles from a pharmaceutical perspective.     Twenty four species of Pandalid shrimps reported from the Indian waters, of which six genera (Chlorotocella, Chlorotocus, Chlorocurtis, Dorodotes, Heterocarpoides and Stylopandalus) are represented by single species each. The genera, Plesionika and Heterocarpus are represented by eleven and seven species respectively. Plesionika adensameri (Balss, 1914) a deep-sea shrimp hitherto unreported from Indian waters is recorded from west coast of India. Information on some biological aspects of few Pandalid shrimps from Indian waters is also reported in the present paper
