The common genetic influence over processing speed and white matter microstructure: Evidence from the Old Order Amish and Human Connectome Projects
Speed with which brain performs information processing influences overall cognition and is dependent on the white matter fibers. To understand genetic influences on processing speed and white matter FA, we assessed processing speed and diffusion imaging fractional anisotropy (FA) in related individuals from two populations. Discovery analyses were performed in 146 individuals from large Old Order Amish (OOA) families and findings were replicated in 485 twins and siblings of the Human Connectome Project (HCP). The heritability of processing speed was h(2)=43% and 49% (both p\u3c0.005), while the heritability of whole brain FA was h(2)=87% and 88% (both p\u3c0.001), in the OOA and HCP, respectively. Whole brain FA was significantly correlated with processing speed in the two cohorts. Quantitative genetic analysis demonstrated a significant degree to which common genes influenced joint variation in FA and brain processing speed. These estimates suggested common sets of genes influencing variation in both phenotypes, consistent with the idea that common genetic variations contributing to white matter may also support their associated cognitive behavior
Detectability of Terrestrial Planets in Multi-Planet Systems: Preliminary Report
We ask if Earth-like planets (terrestrial mass and habitable-zone orbit) can
be detected in multi-planet systems, using astrometric and radial velocity
observations. We report here the preliminary results of double-blind

Gemini Planet Imager Observational Calibrations VI: Photometric and Spectroscopic Calibration for the Integral Field Spectrograph
The Gemini Planet Imager (GPI) is a new facility instrument for the Gemini
Observatory designed to provide direct detection and characterization of
planets and debris disks around stars in the solar neighborhood. In addition to
its extreme adaptive optics and corona graphic systems which give access to
high angular resolution and high-contrast imaging capabilities, GPI contains an
integral field spectrograph providing low resolution spectroscopy across five
bands between 0.95 and 2.5 m. This paper describes the sequence of
processing steps required for the spectro-photometric calibration of GPI
science data, and the necessary calibration files. Based on calibration
observations of the white dwarf HD 8049B we estimate that the systematic error
in spectra extracted from GPI observations is less than 5%. The flux ratio of
the occulted star and fiducial satellite spots within coronagraphic GPI
observations, required to estimate the magnitude difference between a target
and any resolved companions, was measured in the -band to be in laboratory measurements and using
on-sky observations. Laboratory measurements for the , , and
filters are also presented. The total throughput of GPI, Gemini South and the
atmosphere of the Earth was also measured in each photometric passband, with a
typical throughput in -band of 18% in the non-coronagraphic mode, with some
variation observed over the six-month period for which observations were
available. We also report ongoing development and improvement of the data cube

Population Pharmacodynamic Modelling of the CD19+ Suppression Effects of Rituximab in Paediatric Patients with Neurological and Autoimmune Diseases
Background: Limited pharmacotherapy and the failure of conventional treatments in complex pathologies in children lead to increased off-label use of rituximab. We aimed to characterize the time course of CD19+ B lymphocytes (CD19+) under treatment with intravenous rituximab in children with neurologic and autoimmune diseases and to evaluate the impact of covariates (i.e., demographics, diagnosis and substitution between innovator and biosimilar product) on rituximab pharmacodynamics and disease activity. Methods: Pre- and post-drug infusion CD19+ in peripheral blood were prospectively registered. A population pharmacodynamic model describing the time course of CD19+ was developed with NONMEM v7.4. Simulations of three different rituximab regimens were performed to assess the impact on CD19+. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify predictors of clinical response recorded through disease activity scores. Results: 281 measurements of CD19+ lymphocyte counts obtained from 63 children with neurologic (n = 36) and autoimmune (n = 27) diseases were available. The time course of CD19+ was described with a turn-over model in which the balance between synthesis and degradation rates is disrupted by rituximab, increasing the latter process. The model predicts half-lives (percent coefficient of variation, CV(%)) of rituximab and CD19+ of 11.6 days (17%) and 173.3 days (22%), respectively. No statistically significant effect was found between any of the studied covariates and model parameters (p > 0.05). Simulations of different regimens showed no clinically significant differences in terms of CD19+ repopulation times. A trend towards a lack of clinical response was observed in patients with lower CD19+ repopulation times and higher areas under the CD19+ versus time curve. Conclusions: Rituximab pharmacodynamics was described in a real-world setting in children suffering from autoimmune and neurologic diseases. Diagnosis, substitution between innovator rituximab and its biosimilars or type of regimen did not affect rituximab-induced depletion of CD19+ nor the clinical response in this cohort of patients. According to this study, rituximab frequency and dosage may be chosen based on clinical convenience or safety reasons without affecting CD19+ repopulation times. Constraints on the architecture of the HD 95086 planetary system with the Gemini Planet Imager
We present astrometric monitoring of the young exoplanet HD 95086 b obtained
with the Gemini Planet Imager between 2013 and 2016. A small but significant
position angle change is detected at constant separation; the orbital motion is
confirmed with literature measurements. Efficient Monte Carlo techniques place
preliminary constraints on the orbital parameters of HD 95086 b. With 68%
confidence, a semimajor axis of 61.7^{+20.7}_{-8.4} au and an inclination of
153.0^{+9.7}_{-13.5} deg are favored, with eccentricity less than 0.21. Under
the assumption of a co-planar planet-disk system, the periastron of HD 95086 b
is beyond 51 au with 68% confidence. Therefore HD 95086 b cannot carve the
entire gap inferred from the measured infrared excess in the SED of HD 95086.
We use our sensitivity to additional planets to discuss specific scenarios
presented in the literature to explain the geometry of the debris belts. We
suggest that either two planets on moderately eccentric orbits or three to four
planets with inhomogeneous masses and orbital properties are possible. The
sensitivity to additional planetary companions within the observations
presented in this study can be used to help further constrain future dynamical
simulations of the planet-disk system.Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ

Mobilizing the emergence of Phronetic TechnoScienceSocieties:low-carbon e-mobility in China
TechnoScienceSociety (TSS) spells the wholesale reorganization of the constellation of related concepts that together make up the very common-sense meaning of ‘politics’ and ‘government’, not least of which today are knowledge, science, technology and society, all of which are currently founded on essentially literal, dualistic not pragmatic, processual grounds. We argue that grappling with TSS and a politics of TSS demands a shift broadly from a universalist (if possibly critical) epistemo-politics of critique or criticism to an onto-politics of situated practical wisdom (phronesis). Important pointers in this direction come from existing work in actor network theory (ANT)-inspired STS. But while useful starting points, this work is also insufficient in some key regards, to the point that we must now move beyond it. In particular, the need for a shift to a situated, processual and practically engaged perspective applies no less to discussions such as this in STS. We here trace out some of the argument for, and consequences of, that move. The argument proceeds as follows. First we consider the after-ANT argument of ontological politics and how this demands a break with the familiar epistemological and ‘one world’ politics still dominating contemporary discourse, mainstream and critical. Then we consider some of the key problems with this conception of ontological politics vis-à -vis the predicament of an emerging TSS. This includes a brief discussion of an alternative perspective, of complex power/knowledge systems (CP/KS) within a phronetic onto-politics. Finally, we illustrate the arguments by analysing, using this CP/KS and onto-political perspective, a key case study of contemporary TSS: the ongoing attempts of innovation towards a transition in urban mobility system in China
