The estimated catches at Mangrol, Porbander and Veraval were 401.796 163.608, and 87.475 tonnes respectively. The fishing was conducted at a depth of 40 to 70 metres. The species formed about 46.58%, 16.45% and 1.19% out of total catches at Mangrol, Porbander and Veraval respectivel

Unusual fishery for oil sardines along the West Saurashtra Coast

    Get PDF
The paper discuss about the unusual landing pattern of oil sardine along the Saurashtra coast during 1986-87 period. The reason assumed for this heavy landing was the migrating behavior of oil sardine during the winter season, suggesting the need of well planned study along the coast

Rare record of rainbow runner Elegatis bipinnulata in trawl catches of Veraval

    Get PDF
A small quantity of the carangid rainbow runner Elegatis bipinnulata which can easily be mistaken to be a longer mackerel or seer fish was landed on 23.11.2000 at Bhidia trawl landing centre. This species had no scutes on the lateral line, instead had pored scales with rainbow like colour pattern over the body, shape very much resembled to that of Sconiberomoras guttatus

Bumper landings of Abalistes stellatus (Lacepede. 1798)

    Get PDF
Although trigger fishes are obtained in stray numbers during trawl catches, unusually large specimens are observed in the long trip trawlers operating at 60-100 mts depth. The size ranged from 38 to 43 cm and the catch from 50 to 100 kg/boat. A record landing of about 185.5 tonnes was estimated during the year 2000 at Veraval. The samples collected on 24.11.2000 were identified as the starry triggerfish, Abalistes stellatus (Lacepede, 1798)

We prove that the flux of gravitational radiation from an isolated source in the Nonsymmetric Gravitational Theory is identical to that found in Einstein's General Theory of Relativity.Comment: 10 Page

Improved mechanisation in dolnetting along the Saurashtra coast

    Get PDF
The dolnetters of Jaffrabad, Rajapara and Nawabunder until 2000 were using engine drive for transport and other fishing operations (shooting, piling and hauling). This was done manually and required 6-9 persons per trip with increased effort and reduced catches which necessitated multiday operations and multinet/multihaul operations

The unusual landings of Juveniles of Decapterus russelli and Rastrelliger kanagurta in trawl catches of Veraval

    Get PDF
Caputre of fish Juveniles in trawl nets is a common and regular phenomenon ever since the cod end mesh size has been reduced to less than 10 mm. Generally the cod-end catches are a mixture of juveniles of several species of finflshes and shellfishes, along with a host of inedible benthic biota. The occurance of a single species in significantly large quantities is seldom found or reported

Practice of hooks and line fishery off Satpathi waters, Maharashtra

    Get PDF
In trawler boats the fishermen utilize manually operated hooks and line using cephalopods, ribbon fishes, mackerel and other fishes caught in the trawl nets as baits. Trawl nets and hooks and line were employed alternatively and the operation reached a peak in the period from October to January and in the "Mahashivarathri" season. Average catch per boat for the following season (October 1997- January 1998) varied from 200 to 1,000 kg and mainly comprised S.commersoni, Thunnus tonggol and Euthynnus ajfinis along with a few numbers of Epinephelus spp., Rachycentron canadus and P, diacanthus

On the unusual landing of juvenile black pomfret at Veraval and Mangrol landing centre of Gujrat

    Get PDF
Pomfrets form an Important component in the fishery off Mangrol and Veraval. They are landed by trawl nets and monofilament gill nets. The silver pomfret Pampas argenteus Is locally called "Vichhuda" and the black pomfret, Formio niger is called "Halva". The former dominates the pomfret fishery with peak landings in the monsoon and post monsoon period. The black pomfret does not show any regular pattern of landing

A female specimen of the oceanic squid Symplectoteuthis otialaniensis (Lesson) measuring 434 Imm in mantle length and 2.460 kg in weight caught by drift net off Mangrol is: reported, giving the monphometrlc moasurements. A single female specimen of the oceanic squid Symplectoteuthis oulaniensis (Lesson) was caught in a drift gill net (150 mm mesh) off Mangrol, from an area 80 m in depth, it\ Saurashtra coast on February 6, 1986 (Fig. 1). The specimen measured 434 mm in dorsal mantle length and 2.460 kg in weight. Both the tentacles had been mutUated. The gonad was in maturing condition and the gut was full with thoroughly macerated and pulpy food
