Line identification studies using traditional techniques and wavelength coincidence statistics

    Get PDF
Traditional line identification techniques result in the assignment of individual lines to an atomic or ionic species. These methods may be supplemented by wavelength coincidence statistics (WCS). The strength and weakness of these methods are discussed using spectra of a number of normal and peculiar B and A stars that have been studied independently by both methods. The present results support the overall findings of some earlier studies. WCS would be most useful in a first survey, before traditional methods have been applied. WCS can quickly make a global search for all species and in this way may enable identifications of an unexpected spectrum that could easily be omitted entirely from a traditional study. This is illustrated by O I. WCS is a subject to well known weakness of any statistical technique, for example, a predictable number of spurious results are to be expected. The danger of small number statistics are illustrated. WCS is at its best relative to traditional methods in finding a line-rich atomic species that is only weakly present in a complicated stellar spectrum

Mechanical harvesting has brought about some problems of quality control for many crops - including corn. USDA - ISU research has produced a formula which farmers and grain handlers can use to determine the length of time corn can be stored before the grade changes

Immerse, Interact, Impact: A Comparative Analysis on Selected Experiential Marketing Activations at Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival 2022

The commercial marketplace is becoming increasingly experiential. Experiential marketing activations, particularly those done at music festivals, are emerging as a highly valuable marketing tool to impact brand recognition and loyalty through the creation of unique branded experiences. The purpose of this study was to examine the experiential marketing design practices utilized at selected branded activations within Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival 2022. A comparative analysis was conducted on three selected experiential marketing activations at Outside Lands: The House by Heineken, the Music Den by Toyota, and the Ocean Love Tour by Gray Whale Gin. The findings concluded that the presence of immersive and interactive elements, as well as relevance to the general festival experience, are crucial to creating an impactful, memorable experience. Recommendations included adding more interactive elements and increasing the presence of brand representatives within activations to escalate impact

What Works in Transformative Mediator Coaching: Field Test Findings

    Get PDF
A process for the formative assessment (coaching) of mediators practicing from the transformative orientation was field tested at six different sites. Specifically varied were whether or not the mediator\u27s original training was in the transformative orientation, the mediator\u27s amount of experience practicing from the transformative orientation, and whether the role-play mediation sessions were live or videotaped. In addition to drawing conclusions about the qualifications necessary for a coach and the pros and cons of videotaped sessions versus live stop-action sessions, we developed guidelines for structuring the coaching process. We also identified a range of possible uses of the process

First Lattice Study of the NN-P11(1440)P_{11}(1440) Transition Form Factors

Experiments at Jefferson Laboratory, MIT-Bates, LEGS, Mainz, Bonn, GRAAL, and Spring-8 offer new opportunities to understand in detail how nucleon resonance (NN^*) properties emerge from the nonperturbative aspects of QCD. Preliminary data from CLAS collaboration, which cover a large range of photon virtuality Q2Q^2 show interesting behavior with respect to Q2Q^2 dependence: in the region Q21.5GeV2Q^2 \le 1.5 {GeV}^2, both the transverse amplitude, A1/2(Q2)A_{1/2}(Q^2), and the longitudinal amplitude, S1/2(Q2)S_{1/2}(Q^2), decrease rapidly. In this work, we attempt to use first-principles lattice QCD (for the first time) to provide a model-independent study of the Roper-nucleon transition form factor.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, double colum

A contact area function for Berkovich nanoindentation : Application to hardness determination of a TiHfCN thin film

    Get PDF
In nanoindentation, especially at very low indenter displacements, the indenter/material contact area must be defined in the best possible way in order to accurately determine the mechanical properties of the material. One of the best methodologies for the computation of the contact area has been proposed by Oliver and Pharr [W.C.Oliver, G.M.Pharr, J.Mater. Res. 7 (1992) 1564], which involves a complex phenomenological area function. Unfortunately, this formulation is only valid when the continuous stiffness measurement mode is employed. For other conditions of indentation, different contact area functions, which take into account the effective truncation length or the radius of the rounded indentertip, as well as some fitting parameters, have been proposed. However, most of these functions require a calibration procedure due to the presence of such parameters. To avoid such a calibration, in the present communication a contact area function only related to the truncation length representative of the indenter tip defect, which can be previously estimated with high resolution microscopy, has been proposed. This model allows the determination of consistent indentation data from indenter displacements of only few nanometers indepth. When this proposed contact area function is applied to the mechanical characterization of a TiHfCN film of 2.6 μm in thickness deposited onto a tool steel substrate, the direct determination of the hardness and elastic modulus of the film leads to values of 35.5±2 GPa and 490±50 GPa, respectively
