Cross-comparative analysis of evacuation behavior after earthquakes using mobile phone data
Despite the importance of predicting evacuation mobility dynamics after large
scale disasters for effective first response and disaster relief, our general
understanding of evacuation behavior remains limited because of the lack of
empirical evidence on the evacuation movement of individuals across multiple
disaster instances. Here we investigate the GPS trajectories of a total of more
than 1 million anonymized mobile phone users whose positions are tracked for a
period of 2 months before and after four of the major earthquakes that occurred
in Japan. Through a cross comparative analysis between the four disaster
instances, we find that in contrast with the assumed complexity of evacuation
decision making mechanisms in crisis situations, the individuals' evacuation
probability is strongly dependent on the seismic intensity that they
experience. In fact, we show that the evacuation probabilities in all
earthquakes collapse into a similar pattern, with a critical threshold at
around seismic intensity 5.5. This indicates that despite the diversity in the
earthquakes profiles and urban characteristics, evacuation behavior is
similarly dependent on seismic intensity. Moreover, we found that probability
density functions of the distances that individuals evacuate are not dependent
on seismic intensities that individuals experience. These insights from
empirical analysis on evacuation from multiple earthquake instances using large
scale mobility data contributes to a deeper understanding of how people react
to earthquakes, and can potentially assist decision makers to simulate and
predict the number of evacuees in urban areas with little computational time
and cost, by using population density information and seismic intensity which
can be observed instantaneously after the shock

An Effective Three-Dimensional Layout of Actuation Body Force for Separation Control
We conducted large eddy simulations of the control of separated flow over an airfoil using body forces and discuss the role of a three-dimensional vortex structure in separation control. Two types of cases are examined: (1) the body force is distributed in a spanwise uniform layout and (2) the body force is distributed in a spanwise intermittent layout, with three-dimensional vortices being expected to be generated in the latter cases. The flow fields in the latter cases have a shorter separation bubble than those in the former cases although the total momentum of the body force in the latter cases is the same as or half of the former cases. In the flow fields of the latter type, the three-dimensional vortices, which are not observed in the former cases, are generated by the body force downstream of the body force distributed. Thus, three-dimensional vortices are considered to be effective in controlling the separated flow

We herein presented a case of a 79-year-old woman who was referred to our hospital with dry mouth and polyuria that had persisted for three months prior to her admission. She developed Hashimoto disease at 73 years old and pernicious anemia at 78 years old. Her blood glucose level was 682 mg/dl, HbA1c 14.6%, and urinary ketone was positive ; therefore, she was diagnosed with diabetic ketosis. Acute-onset autoimmune type 1 diabetes mellitus was diagnosed based on the diagnostic criteria for acute-onset type 1 diabetes mellitus (2012) by the committee of the Japan Diabetes Society. Autoimmune polyglandular syndrome was subsequently diagnosed based on the complications of type 1 diabetes and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Her 87-year-old brother had developed acute-onset autoimmune type 1 diabetes 2 months before his sister was hospitalized. Autoimmune polyglandular syndrome type III was also diagnosed because he had autoimmune thyroid disease. No epidemiological data are currently available for late elderly with acute-onset type 1 diabetes in Japan. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of acute-onset autoimmune type 1 diabetes mellitus that developed around the same time period in an elderly brother and sister who were diagnosed with autoimmune polyglandular syndrome type III. Common genetic and environmental factors were etiologically implicated in the almost simultaneous onset between these siblings
Large-scale mapping observations of the CI(3P1-3P0) and CO(J=3-2) lines toward the Orion A molecular cloud
Large scale mapping observations of the 3P1-3P0 fine structure transition of
atomic carbon (CI, 492 GHz) and the J=3-2 transition of CO (346 GHz) toward the
Orion A molecular cloud have been carried out with the Mt. Fuji
submillimeter-wave telescope. The observations cover 9 square degrees, and
include the Orion nebula M42 and the L1641 dark cloud complex. The CI emission
extends over almost the entire region of the Orion A cloud and is surprisingly
similar to that of 13CO(J=1-0).The CO(J=3-2) emission shows a more featureless
and extended distribution than CI.The CI/CO(J=3-2) integrated intensity ratio
shows a spatial gradient running from the north (0.10) to the south (1.2) of
the Orion A cloud, which we interpret as a consequence of the temperature
gradient. On the other hand, the CI/13CO(J=1-0) intensity ratio shows no
systematic gradient. We have found a good correlation between the CI and
13CO(J=1-0) intensities over the Orion A cloud. This result is discussed on the

Significance of Coronary Artery Calcium Score in the Target Lesion Evaluated by Multi-detector Computed Tomography for Selecting Treatment of Rotational Atherectomy in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease
We investigated whether coronary artery calcium score (CAC) in the target lesion on the multidetector computed tomography angiography (CTA) predicts the addition of the Rotational atherectomy (Rota) during percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Lesion CAC on CTA were evaluated with quantitative coronary analysis (QCA) on coronary angiography for predicting the Rota treatment in 114 consecutive patients (165 target lesions) with first PCI (68 ± 9 years old, females: 17.6%). Rota was added in 8 patients (11 lesions). The lesion length and diameter stenosis on QCA, and lesion length and lesion CAC on CTA were the primary factors associated with the addition of Rota. Using the cut-off value based on receiver operating characteristic analysis, the sensitivity and specificity for predicting the Rota based on QCA was 72.7% in 8 of 11 lesions (vessels) with Rota and the specificity was 74% in 114 of 154 without Rota in the lesion length of ≥ 23mm (χ2=10.9, p=0.001), and 54.5% in 6 of 11 lesions with Rota and the specificity was 79.2% in 122 of 154 without Rota in the diameter stenosis of ≥ 83% (χ2=6.6, p=0.01). Those based on CTA were 90.9% in 10 of 11 lesions with Rota and 77.3% in 119 of 154 without Rota in the lesion length of ≥ 34mm (χ2=24.1, p<0.001), and 90.9% in 10 of 11 with Rota and 88.3% in 136 of 154 without Rota in the lesions with CAC ≥453 (χ2=45.7, p<0.001). Lesion CAC on CTA is most predictive of addition of Rota during PCI
Beam and SKS spectrometers at the K1.8 beam line
High-resolution spectrometers for both incident beams and scattered particles have been constructed at the K1.8 beam line of the Hadron Experimental Facility at J-PARC. A point-to-point optics is realized between the entrance and exit of QQDQQ magnets for the beam spectrometer. Fine-pitch wire chamber trackers and hodoscope counters are installed in the beam spectrometer to accept a high rate beam up to 107 Hz. The superconducting kaon spectrometer for scattered particles was transferred from KEK with modifications to the cryogenic system and detectors. A missing-mass resolution of 1.9 ± 0.1 MeV/c2 (FWHM) was achieved for the ∑ peaks of (π±, K+) reactions on a proton target in the first physics run of E19 in 2010
