    Reconstructing GKZ via topological recursion

    In this article, a novel description of the hypergeometric differential equation found from Gel'fand-Kapranov-Zelevinsky's system (referred to GKZ equation) for Givental's JJ-function in the Gromov-Witten theory will be proposed. The GKZ equation involves a parameter \hbar, and we will reconstruct it as the WKB expansion from the classical limit 0\hbar\to 0 via the topological recursion. In this analysis, the spectral curve (referred to GKZ curve) plays a central role, and it can be defined as the critical point set of the mirror Landau-Ginzburg potential. Our novel description is derived via the duality relations of the string theories, and various physical interpretations suggest that the GKZ equation is identified with the quantum curve for the brane partition function in the cohomological limit. As an application of our novel picture for the GKZ equation, we will discuss the Stokes matrix for the equivariant CP1\mathbb{C}\textbf{P}^{1} model and the wall-crossing formula for the total Stokes matrix will be examined.     Characterization of a cDNA encoding a precursor of Carassius RFamide, structurally related to a mammalian prolactin-releasing peptide

    AbstractWe have characterized the cDNA encoding Carassius RFamide (C-RFa), which is structurally related to mammalian prolactin-releasing peptides (PrRPs), from the brain of the crucian carp. The deduced C-RFa precursor has been shown to comprise 117 amino acids, encoding a single C-RFa sequence. A comparative study of amino acid sequences has revealed that several sequences conserved in preproPrRPs are also found in the C-RFa precursor. Furthermore, the abundant presence of the C-RFa mRNA in the telencephalon, optic tectum, medulla oblongata, and proximal half eye ball was demonstrated by Southern blot analysis of RT-PCR products

    An Adult Case of Kawasaki Disease in a Pregnant Japanese Woman: A Case Report

    Kawasaki disease is an acute febrile disease predominantly seen in young children. We report a case of Kawasaki disease in a 32-year-old pregnant woman. She developed a generalized erythematous skin rash accompanied by high fever. Bilateral conjunctival congestion, tender cervical lymphadenopathy, an edematous lower lip and peripheral edema followed by desquamation were observed. She was successfully treated with aspirin and intravenous gammaglobulin (1 g/kg/day). Her course was not complicated by coronary artery aneurysm and she delivered a healthy baby. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of Kawasaki disease in a pregnant woman. We suggest that Kawasaki disease should be included in the differential diagnosis of a generalized, erythematous skin rash accompanied by high fever in adults

    Postprandial Hyperglycemia Is Associated With White Matter Hyperintensity and Brain Atrophy in Older Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

    Type 2 diabetes mellitus is associated with neurodegeneration and cerebrovascular disease. However, the precise mechanism underlying the effects of glucose management on brain abnormalities is not fully understood. The differential impacts of glucose alteration on brain changes in patients with and without cognitive impairment are also unclear. This cross-sectional study included 57 older type 2 diabetes patients with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) or normal cognition (NC). We examined the effects of hypoglycemia, postprandial hyperglycemia and glucose fluctuations on regional white matter hyperintensity (WMH) and brain atrophy among these patients. In a multiple regression analysis, postprandial hyperglycemia was independently associated with frontal WMH in the AD patients. In addition, postprandial hyperglycemia was significantly associated with brain atrophy, regardless of the presence of cognitive decline. Altogether, our findings indicate that postprandial hyperglycemia is associated with WMH in AD patients but not NC patients, which suggests that AD patients are more susceptible to postprandial hyperglycemia associated with WMH

    Transport characteristics of deuterium and hydrogen plasmas with ion internal transport barrier in the Large Helical Device

    A remarkable extension of the high-ion-temperature (high-Ti) regime was obtained in deuterium plasma experiments in the Large Helical Device. In order to clarify transport characteristics in the ion internal transport barrier (ITB) formation with an isotope effect, a dataset of pure deuterium (nD/ne  >  0.8) and pure hydrogen (nH/ne  >  0.8) plasmas in the high-Ti regime were analyzed, and two mechanisms of transport improvement were characterized. A significant reduction of ion heat transport in the core of both deuterium and hydrogen plasmas was observed, indicating ion ITB formation. The dependence of the ion heat diffusivity on temperature ratio (Te/Ti) and normalized Ti-gradient (R/LTi  =  −(R/Ti)(dTi/dr)) was investigated in the core region, in which gyrokinetic simulations with the GKV code predict the destabilization of ion temperature gradient (ITG) modes. The Te/Ti dependence shows ITG-like property, while a significant deviation from the ITG-like property is found in the R/ dependence, indicating suppression of the ITG mode in the large R/ regime and resultant ion ITB formation. In the comparison between deuterium plasma and hydrogen plasma, the lower transport in the deuterium plasma is observed in both ion and electron heat diffusivities, indicating a significant isotope effect. It was found with the nonlinear turbulent transport simulation with GKV that the zonal flow enhancement contributes to the ITG suppression in the deuterium plasma
