Estimating Productivity of Dairy Cows by Inductive Logic Programming

    Get PDF
In this study, we attempt deriving rules to estimate the productivity of dairy cows using inductive logic programming (ILP) for dairy farming. The milk yield of dairy cows is economically important and, of course, should be large. Accordingly, we selected data using the total milk yield in a lifetime as a threshold, and our ILP algorithm learned about positive and negative cases. As a result, 42 rules in positive, and 11 rules in negative were derived. ILP is also applicable for dairy farming and can provide useful information for farmers

Downstream genes of Pax6 revealed by comprehensive transcriptome profiling in the developing rat hindbrain

Abstract Background The transcription factor Pax6 is essential for the development of the central nervous system and it exerts its multiple functions by regulating the expression of downstream target molecules. To screen for genes downstream of Pax6, we performed comprehensive transcriptome profiling analyses in the early hindbrain of Pax6 homozygous mutant and wild-type rats using microarrays. Results Comparison of quadruplicate microarray experiments using two computational methods allowed us to identify differentially expressed genes that have relatively small fold changes or low expression levels. Gene ontology analyses of the differentially expressed molecules demonstrated that Pax6 is involved in various signal transduction pathways where it regulates the expression of many receptors, signaling molecules, transporters and transcription factors. The up- or down-regulation of these genes was further confirmed by quantitative RT-PCR. In situ staining of Fabp7, Dbx1, Unc5h1 and Cyp26b1 mRNAs showed that expression of these transcripts not only overlapped with that of Pax6 in the hindbrain of wild-type and Pax6 heterozygous mutants, but also was clearly reduced in the hindbrain of the Pax6 homozygous mutant. In addition, the Pax6 homozygous mutant hindbrain showed that Cyp26b1 expression was lacked in the dorsal and ventrolateral regions of rhombomeres 5 and 6, and that the size of rhombomere 5 expanded rostrocaudally. Conclusions These results indicate that Unc5h1 and Cyp26b1 are novel candidates for target genes transactivated by Pax6. Furthermore, our results suggest the interesting possibility that Pax6 regulates anterior-posterior patterning of the hindbrain via activation of Cyp26b1, an enzyme that metabolizes retinoic acid

Distribution of local 137Cs anomalies on the seafloor near the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant

An estimated 3.5 ± 0.7 × 1015 Bq of 137Cs is thought to have been discharged into the ocean following the melt down at Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (F1NPP). While efforts have been made to monitor seafloor radiation levels, the sampling techniques used cannot capture the continuous distribution of radionuclides. In this work, we apply in situ measurement techniques using a towed gamma ray spectrometer to map the continuous distribution of 137Cs on the seafloor within 20 km of the F1NPP. The results reveal the existence of local 137Cs anomalies, with levels of 137Cs an order of magnitude higher than the surrounding seafloors. The sizes of the anomalies mapped in this work range from a few meters to a few hundreds of meters in length, and it is demonstrated that the distribution of these anomalies is strongly influenced by meter scale features of the terrain

A TCAD Simulation Study for a New Technique to Calculate Carrier Recombination Lifetime Based on Open Circuit Voltage Decay Method

A new technique for calculation of correct carrier recombination lifetime in intrinsic layer of silicon PiN diode on the basis of the Open Circuit Voltage Decay method was invented. The new technique can remove the effects of carrier diffusion into p+ and n+ layer from intrinsic layer and carrier injection into intrinsic layer from depletion layer. The comparison of calculation results between the conventional and new technique by employing TCAD simulation indicated that the new technique can calculate more correct recombination lifetime value.8th International Symposium on Advanced Science and Technology of Silicon Materials, November 7 - 9, 2022, Okayama, Japan (2020年11月15日~19日開催予定から変更
