    Teaching recount text writing through guiding questions technique at the first grade of SMAN 7 Bandarlampung

    The aims of this study were to find out whether guiding questions technique can be used to improve the students’ ability to write recount text significantly and to find out which aspect improved the most significantly after the students were taught using guiding questions. This research was an experimental study. Two raters were employed in this research. They were the English teacher and the researcher. The population of this research was 275 students of first grade of SMAN 7 Bandar Lampung in 2018/2019 academic year. The sample of this research was class X MIA 6 of SMAN 7 Bandar Lampung consisting of 25 students. This research used one group pretest posttest design and the data were analyzed using Paired t-test. The average score of the pre-test was 55.12 and the average score of the post-test was 70.24.  Keywords: writing ability, recount text, guiding question

    Modifying Metacognitive Strategy Instruction Based CALLA For Writing Class In Relation To Students Level Of Critical Thinking

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi pengaruh modifikasi CALLA pada prestasi menulis siswa dan strategi metakognisi, pengaruh level berfikir kritis siswa pada prestasi menulis mereka, dan proses implementasi modifikasi CALLA di dalam kelas bahasa. Penelitian ini menggunakan one?group pretest?posttest design. Ada empat instrument: Tes Potensi Akademik (TPA), Kuesioner MSUW, Tes Menulis, dan observasi. Data dianalisis menggunakan Repeated Measures T-test. One Way Anova digunakan untuk melihat pengaruh level berfikir kritis siswa. Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan secara statistik kenaikan signifikan baik di prestasi menulis siswa dan penggunaan strategi metakognisi mereka. Sedangkan berkaitan dengan pengaruh level brfikir kritis siswa terhadap prestasi menulis mereka, temuan dari penelitian ini mengindikasikan secara statistik tidak ada dampak signifikan dari level berfikir kritis siswa pada pestasi menulis siswa. Selanjutnya, dari lembar observasi, proses belajar dan mengajar melalui modifikasi CALLA berjalan dengan baik seperti yang diharapkan oleh peneliti.This study aims at investigating the effect of modified CALLA on students writing achievement and metacognitive strategies, the effect of students critical thinking level on their writing achievement, and the process of implementing modified CALLA in the language classroom. This research used one?group pretest?posttest design. There were four instruments: Academic Potency Test (APT), Metacognitive Strategy Use in Writing (MSUW), Writing Test, and observation. The data were calculated using Repeated Measures T-test. One Way Anova was used to see the effect of students critical thinking level. The finding showed the increase both in writing achievement and metacognitive strategies uses. Meanwhile related to the effect of students critical thinking level, the finding indicated statistically no significant impact of the students critical thinking level on their writing achievement. Furthermore, from the observation sheet, the teaching and learning process through modified CALLA run well as expected by the researcher.Keywords : Critical thinking, metacognitive strategies, modified CALLA, writing achievement

    THE USE OF LEARNING STRATEGIES IN READING COMPREHENSION

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara siswa yang berhasil dan tidak berhasil dalam menggunakan strategi belajar yang berbeda dalam kemampuan membaca bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dan dilaksanakan di kelas XI dengan total siswa 64 orang. Untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti memberikan sebuah kuesioner (LLSQ) dan test membaca. Data dianalisis dengan One way Anova. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) tidak ada perbedaan yang signifikan antara siswa yang berhasil dan tidak berhasil dalam menggunakan strategi belajar yang berbeda, (2) sebagian besar siswa menggunakan strategi metakognitif (48.43%), sosial (29.69%), dan kognitif (21.88%). Oleh karena itu, siswa perlu diinformasikan tentang strategi-strategi belajar dan penggunaan yang tepat dalam membaca karena pemilihan strategi belajar adalah salah satu cara siswa dalam meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa.The research was aimed to find out whether or not there was significant difference between successful and unsuccessful learners in using difference learning strategies in reading comprehension. This research was a quantitative study and was conducted to 64 learners in second grade of SMAN 1 Gedong Tataan. In collecting data, the researcher gave a questionnaire (LLSQ) and reading test. The data was analyzed by using One way Anove. The results showed that (1) there was no significant difference between successful and unsuccessful learners in using difference learning strategies, (2) most of students used metacognitive strategy (48.43%), social (29.69%), and cognitive (21.88%). Therefore, the students need to be informed about learning strategies and how to use them appropriately in reading because choosing learning strategies was one of a students ways in improving their skill in reading.Keywords: learning strategies, reading comprehension, successful learner

    Task-based instructions: Comparison of pre tasks between planning time and doing similar tasks in improving the students’ speaking performance

    The current research focuses on the analysis of the implementation of task-based language teaching especially in the pre-task phase to  investigate which task result is better between doing similar taskand strategic planningin improving students’ speaking achievement in term of complexity, accuracy, and fluency. The research involved  two classes, experimental and control class. The researcher used random assignment post-test design. Based on the results, it is reported that: (1) there was significant difference on the students’ speaking achievement in term of complexity after having strategic planningtask; (2) there was no significant difference in the accuracy and fluency before and after the implementation of strategic planningtask; (3) there was significant difference in termS of complexity and fluency after the use of doing similar task; and (4) there is no significant difference in term of accuracy before and after getting the treatment of doing similar task

    Peningkatan Mutu Pendidikan Islam merupakan salah satu keharusan lembaga pendidikan melakukan perubahan dan pengembangan agar bisa menjawab dan memenuhi kebutuhan masyarakat. Untuk itu diperlukan seorang pemimpin yang mampu membawa perubahan dalam dunia pendidikan serta terus mengembangkan inovasi-inovasi baru dalam mengembangkan lembega pendidikan. Salah satu tujuan yang ingin dicapai dalam penelitian ini adalah mengungkap strategi kepemimpinan kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan mutu pendidikan Islam di SMP IT Smart Cendikia Karanganom, Klaten. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Penelitian ini dilakukan dari bulan September 2017- Februari 2018 di SMP IT Smart Cendekia Karanganom, Klaten. Subjek dalam penelitian Kepala sekolah, sedangkan informan dalam penelitian ini adalah Guru, Waka, dan siswa di SMP IT Smart Cendikia. Data dikumpulkan dengan metode observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi. Data yang sudah terkumpul dieriksa dengan triangulasi sumber data dan triangulasi metode, selanjutnya dianalisis dengan model interaktif dengan tiga tahapan yaitu melalui reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa Strategi Kepemimpinan Kepala Sekolah dalam Meningkatkan Mutu Pendidikan Islam di SMPI IT Smart Cendekia Karanganom, Klaten dapat dilihat melalui indikator mutu pendidikan yaitu input, proses dan Output. 1) Strategi kepemimpinaan kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan mutu input pendidikan melalui: rekrutmen dan penyeleksian tenaga pendidik dan tenaga kependidikan, seleksi PPDB melalui test dan wawancara, membuat perencanaan program pengembangan pendidikan Islam dan pembuatan SKL 2) Strategi kepemimpinaan kepala madrasah dalam meningkatkan mutu proses pendidikan melalui: melakukan supervisi terhadap kegiatan KBM dan administrasi pendidikan, memberikan motivasi dengan cara mengingatkan komitmen awal, dan mengajak sharing dan memberi pemahaman kepada anggota yang belum yakin akan amanah yang diberikan, Pembinaan SDM yang meliputi pembinaan skill melalui pelatihan dan workshop, pembinaan keislaman, program peer teaching, menjaga komunikasi serta pengkaryaan SDM dalam berbagai kegiatan sekolah. 3) Strategi kepala sekolah dalam meningkatkan mutu output Pendidikan melalui: bimbingan belajar untuk siswa, program tahsin dan tahfidz, kajian kitab, training muhadarah, pembiasaan adab Islami, mentoring agama Islam

    Pengaruh Kepemilikan Institusional Dan Kepemilikan Manajerial Pada Konservatisme Akuntansi

    This study examines the effect of institutional ownership and managerial ownership on accounting conservatism. The institution as the majority shareholder of the company strives to present quality earnings because it realizes that earnings information is an important concern for investors in making investment decisions. In addition, management participation as the owner of the company will be able to align goals between shareholders and management. Profit ability to maintain its quality is often associated with accounting conservatism. The population of this study is a company going public on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in the non-financial sector in the period 2014 to 2017. The study sample was determined using a purposive sampling method which resulted in a sample of 364 observations. The data analysis technique used in the study is multiple linear regression analysis. The test results prove that institutional ownership and managerial ownership have a positive effect on accounting conservatism. Institusi sebagai pemegang saham mayoritas perusahaan berusaha untuk menyajikan laba yang berkualitas karena menyadari bahwa informasi laba menjadi perhatian penting bagi investor dalam melakukan keputusan investasi. Disamping itu, penyertaan manajemen sebagai pemilik perusahaan akan mampu mensejajarkan tujuan antara pemegang saham dengan manajemen. Kemampuan laba dalam mempertahankan kualitasnya seringkali dikaitkan dengan konservatisme akuntansi. Populasi penelitian ini adalah perusahaan go public di Bursa Efek Indonesia yang berada pada sektor non finansial pada periode 2014 hingga 2017. Sampel penelitian ditentukan dengan menggunakan metode purposive sampling yang menghasilkan sampel penelitian sejumlah 364 observasi. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah analisis regresi linear berganda. Hasil pengujian membuktikan bahwa kepemilikan institusional dan kepemilikan manajerial berpengaruh positif pada konservatisme akuntansi.     Relativistic ejecta from XRF 060218 and the rate of cosmic explosions

    Over the last decade, long-duration gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) including the subclass of X-ray flashes (XRFs) have been revealed to be a rare variety of Type Ibc supernova (SN). While all these events result from the death of massive stars, the electromagnetic luminosities of GRBs and XRFs exceed those of ordinary Type Ibc SNe by many orders of magnitude. The essential physical process that causes a dying star to produce a GRB or XRF, and not just an SN, remains the crucial open question. Here we present radio and X-ray observations of XRF 060218 (associated with SN 2006aj), the second nearest GRB identified to-date, which allow us to measure its total energy and place it in the larger context of cosmic explosions. We show that this event is 100 times less energetic but ten times more common than cosmological GRBs. Moreover, it is distinguished from ordinary Type Ibc SNe by the presence of 10^48 erg coupled to mildly-relativistic ejecta, along with a central engine (an accretion-fed, rapidly rotating compact source) which produces X-rays for weeks after the explosion. This suggests that the production of relativistic ejecta is the key physical distinction between GRBs/XRFs and ordinary SNe, while the nature of the central engine (black hole or magnetar) may distinguish typical bursts from low-luminosity, spherical events like XRF 060218.Comment: To appear in Nature on August 31 2006 (15 pages, 3 figures, 1 table, including Supplementary Information
