    Ordinary kriging for on-demand average wind interpolation of in-situ wind sensor data

    We have developed a domain agnostic ordinary kriging algorithm accessible via a standards-based service-oriented architecture for sensor networks. We exploit the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) standards. We need on-demand interpolation maps so runtime performance is a major priority.Our sensor data comes from wind in-situ observation stations in an area approximately 200km by 125km. We provide on-demand average wind interpolation maps. These spatial estimates can then be compared with the results of other estimation models in order to identify spurious results that sometimes occur in wind estimation.Our processing is based on ordinary kriging with automated variogram model selection (AVMS). This procedure can smooth time point wind measurements to obtain average wind by using a variogram model that reflects the wind phenomenon characteristics. Kriging is enabled for wind direction estimation by a simple but effective solution to the problem of estimating periodic variables, based on vector rotation and stochastic simulation.In cases where for the region of interest all wind directions span 180 degrees, we rotate them so they lie between 90 and 270 degrees and apply ordinary kriging with AVMS directly to the meteorological angle. Else, we transform the meteorological angle to Cartesian space, apply ordinary kriging with AVMS and use simulation to transform the kriging estimates back to meteorological angle.Tests run on a 50 by 50 grid using standard hardware takes about 5 minutes to execute backward transformation with a sample size of 100,000. This is acceptable for our on-demand processing service requirements

    From Sensor to Observation Web with Environmental Enablers in the Future Internet

    This paper outlines the grand challenges in global sustainability research and the objectives of the FP7 Future Internet PPP program within the Digital Agenda for Europe. Large user communities are generating significant amounts of valuable environmental observations at local and regional scales using the devices and services of the Future Internet. These communities’ environmental observations represent a wealth of information which is currently hardly used or used only in isolation and therefore in need of integration with other information sources. Indeed, this very integration will lead to a paradigm shift from a mere Sensor Web to an Observation Web with semantically enriched content emanating from sensors, environmental simulations and citizens. The paper also describes the research challenges to realize the Observation Web and the associated environmental enablers for the Future Internet. Such an environmental enabler could for instance be an electronic sensing device, a web-service application, or even a social networking group affording or facilitating the capability of the Future Internet applications to consume, produce, and use environmental observations in cross-domain applications. The term ?envirofied? Future Internet is coined to describe this overall target that forms a cornerstone of work in the Environmental Usage Area within the Future Internet PPP program. Relevant trends described in the paper are the usage of ubiquitous sensors (anywhere), the provision and generation of information by citizens, and the convergence of real and virtual realities to convey understanding of environmental observations. The paper addresses the technical challenges in the Environmental Usage Area and the need for designing multi-style service oriented architecture. Key topics are the mapping of requirements to capabilities, providing scalability and robustness with implementing context aware information retrieval. Another essential research topic is handling data fusion and model based computation, and the related propagation of information uncertainty. Approaches to security, standardization and harmonization, all essential for sustainable solutions, are summarized from the perspective of the Environmental Usage Area. The paper concludes with an overview of emerging, high impact applications in the environmental areas concerning land ecosystems (biodiversity), air quality (atmospheric conditions) and water ecosystems (marine asset management)

    Activities of coal mining at PT Mitra Barito Lumbung Energi's use a long-shift work system. Thus, can lead to a very high levels of risk exhaustion. Purpose of this study was to determine the effect of longshift on the work fatigue of HD Sany SKT80S operators by using the Work Fatigue Measurement Tool Questionnaire (KAUPK2). This study uses the relationship parameter between age and body mass index. The method used in this study is a statistical test method, namely the Chi-Square Test (Fisher's Exact Test), with data analysis using bivariate. The sampling technique used was judgment sampling with 14 respondents. The results showed that 8 out of 14 HD Sany SKT80S operators felt a relationship between work fatigue and the age factor, with symptoms of a sore right or left shoulder. The perception of fatigue is already above 50% that concluded that there are fatigue experienced by HD Sany SKT80S operators. Then, of the 20 dependent factors tested with two independent factors, the result is that the body mass index has no relationship with symptoms of work fatigue, but the age factor has a relationship with symptoms of work fatigue in its tested operators.     Chinese multinational enterprises' firm-specific advantages and a critic on the international business theory

    We argue that the extant literature tends to view that EMNEs do not have FSAs and in particular, innovation-based ownership advantages. This, however, is not a fact but a myth that deserves detailed examination. Drawing on a case study of four Chinese multinationals, we argue that some Chinese multinationals have brilliant innovation capabilities particularly in areas such as services-based innovation, architectural innovation and grafting innovation. This helps to explain their rapid rise and internationalisation. We therefore argue that Dunning’s OLI paradigm is still relevant in the context of EMNEs. However we also accept that the OLI paradigm needs to be taken with a complementary view that EMNEs also internationalise to augment their assets/capabilities.     The paper aims at exploring a small sample data on the determinants of customer behavioural responses in the Nigerian retail banking. Hence, instrument validity, reliability and subsequently the data normality were examined through panel of expert and also by analysing small sample data with aid of SPSS software. Results show that the instrument is reliable and the data for preliminary study exhibit reasonable normality.The research explored and validated the instrument of the various antecedents of consumer behavioural responses most of which were hitherto ignored

    The impact of process quality measurement on financial performance of market oriented firm

    Market orientation and process quality measurement had been regarded in the literature as sources of competitive advantage for business performance.However, both these concepts had been discussed separately in their own respective academic discipline. In the context of business operation today,the organisation need to work as a team to survive in the challenging business environment. Market orientation originates from the marketing concept. On the other hand, process quality measurement originates from quality management principles and is viewed as one of its tools. Despite their importance, many organisations have not combined them in order to become a market driven and quality oriented organisation. Thus, this study investigated the impact of process quality measurement on the relationship between market orientation and financial performance of manufacturing firms in Malaysia. Although the overall results showed lack of evidence on the impact of process quality measurement on market orientation-financial performance relationships, individual results signified that process quality measurement moderate the relationship between market action and financial performance
