Optimal energy management system for V2G chargers combined with PV and ESS in a real environment

    Get PDF
The integration of Electric Vehicles in electricity grids is very likely to pose several challenges to the electrical grid operation and expansion. The potential flexibility of the load associated to the EV charging and the possibility of discharging the EV using vehicle to grid (V2G) chargers offers the opportunity to provide new services to the end users. One real installation in Nissan headquarters in Barcelona has been selected to perform and present a comparative analysis of the differences in EV charge performance and electricity purchase between the use of dummy chargers, smart chargers and V2G chargers managed by an EMS based.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Commissioning Plan of the IFMIF-DONES Accelerator

    Get PDF
IFMIF-DONES (International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility- DEMO-Oriented Neutron Early Source) - a powerful neutron irradiation facility for studies and certification of materials to be used in fusion reactors - is planned as part of the European roadmap to fusion electricity. Its main goal will be to characterize and to qualify materials under irradiation in a neutron field similar to the one faced in a fusion reactor. The intense neutron source is produced by impinging deuterons, from high-power linear deuteron accelerator, on a liquid lithium curtain. The facility has accomplished the preliminary design phase and is currently in its detailed design phase. At the present stage, it is important to have a clear understanding of how the commissioning of the facility will be performed, especially the commissioning of a 5 MW CW deuteron beam, together with the lithium curtain and the beam optimization for the neutron irradiation. In this contribution, the present plans for the hardware and beam commissioning of the accelerator will be given, focusing on the most critical aspects of the tiered approach and on the integration of the procedure with the lithium and tests systems

This manuscript version is made available under the CC-BY-NC-ND 4.0 license http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/The development of Urban-Scale Energy Modelling (USEM) at district or city level is today the goal of many research groups due to the increased interest in applications such as new strategies for city energy supply/demand, urban development planning, or distribution networks stability. It is believed that the assessment of the true potential for energy savings in a city can be done with computer simulation by considering a holistic analysis of the system. The goal of this paper is to provide a review of the existing USEM tools that aim at modelling the dynamic interaction among energy demand, generation and distribution in a city or district through the interaction of different sub-models. The main characteristics covered by the modelling tools are summarised in two matrices. The present study goes beyond other existing review studies by focusing on multi-domain USEM tools and emphasizing the distinction among the different architectures behind them. This work was supported by the research and innovation programme Horizon 2020 of the European Union under the Grant agreement no. 646456 (GrowSmarter); the GEIDI project (ref. El programa Espa~nol de Tecnolog a de Envolturas Regeneradoras TECNO FUS est a estudiando la viabilidad tecnol ogica de un reactor con especi caciones DEMO y envolturas regeneradoras tipo Doble Refrigerante He/Pb15.7Li. Dicho an alisis es validado mediante simulaci on acoplada uido-estructura. Como resultado, se ha obtenido una primera optimizaci on de grosor y propiedades t ermicas de las FCI para el dise~no en cuesti on.Postprint (published version

Analysis of the association between chondrocalcinosis and osteoarthritis: a community based study

To analyse the association between chondrocalcinosis and osteoarthritis (OA) of the hands and knees in an unselected elderly rural population. METHODS--A community based cross sectional study was performed in individuals randomly selected from a previous epidemiological survey on the prevalence of chondrocalcinosis in people older than 60 years from Osona county, Catalonia, northeastern Spain. Radiological OA (grade 2 or more of Kellgren's classification) was evaluated in 26 individuals with chondrocalcinosis and in 104 controls. A total of 18 articular areas of both knees (medial and lateral tibiofemoral compartments) and hands (first, second and third metacarpophalangeal (MCP), first carpometacarpal, trapezium-scaphoid, radiocarpal and distal radioulnar joints) were studied. RESULTS--Radiological changes of OA in the knees were more common in subjects with chondrocalcinosis than in those without it, with an odds ratio adjusted for age and gender (aOR) of 4.3 (95% confidence interval (CI) 1.6 to 11.8, p = 0.005). OA was also more frequent in almost all areas of the hands in individuals with chondrocalcinosis, though the difference reached statistical significance only in the MCP joints (aOR 3.1; 95% CI 1.1 to 8.8; p = 0.033). However, taking into account the side and the different joint compartments analysed, the association between chondrocalcinosis and OA was significant only in the lateral tibiofemoral compartment and the left MCP joints. CONCLUSIONS--In an elderly population unselected for their rheumatic complaints, there was a real association between OA and chondrocalcinosis. This association was particularly relevant in the lateral tibiofemoral compartment of the knee and in the first three left MCP joints

Detailed mechanical design of the LIPAc beam dump radiological shielding

    No full text
The LIPAc is a 9 MeV, D+ linear prototype accelerator for the validation of the IFMIF accelerator design. The high intensity, 125 mA CW beam is stopped in a copper cone involving a high production of neutrons and gamma radiation and activation of its surface. The beam stopper is surrounded by a shielding to attenuate the resulting radiation so that dose rate values comply with the limits at the different zones of the installation. The shielding includes for that purpose polyethylene rings, water tanks and gray cast iron rings. A lead shutter has also been designed to shield the gamma radiation that comes through the beam tube when the linear accelerator is not in operation, in order to allow access inside the building for maintenance tasks. The present work summarizes the detailed mechanical design of the beam dump shielding and the lead shutter taking into account the design constraints, such as working conditions and other external loads, as well as including provisions for dismantling.Peer Reviewe
