The Comparative Analysis of the Scoring System Used in BREEAM International New Construction 2016 and the Recent Trends in Housing Sustainability-Related Literature
Paying attention to the sustainability of houses and any effort in this direction can be extremely important in achieving more sustainable societies. In this regard, sustainability assessment tools and more specifically the certificates that are used to evaluate the sustainability of urban houses can play major roles and, therefore, present points that need to be as efficient as possible. The study is an attempt at analyzing the efficiency of BREEAM (The British Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method), as one of the most advanced and highest used certificates (in the world) in the housing sector, based on the results from a systematic literature review. To achieve this goal, the scoring system used in the BREEAM International New Construction 2016 is evaluated in order to see if the credits and weightings that are assigned to the assessment issues are aligned with the trends existing in the recent literature related to urban housing sustainability. The results of a previously published systematic review of 118 recent papers are used to extract the most important factors (and their importance degrees) affecting the sustainability of urban houses on a global scale. The analysis outcome shows significant differences in the prioritization of factors and the importance degree given to each factor between the BREEAM evaluation process and the literature review factors
Comparison of educational effectiveness between lecture and demonstration based methods on emergency medical services providers of Mashhad city in dealing with patients suspected of having acute coronary syndrome
Introduction: acute coronary syndrome (ACS) is a common cause of emergency visit. Early
administration of aspirin is associated with decreased mortality rate. Thus, aspirin should be
administrated immediately to the patient with suspected ACS. Emergency medical services
(EMS) providers should be trained to respond to heart emergencies and become familiar
with presentations and complications of ACS. In this study, the effect of two educational
methods â lecture and demonstration â on EMS providers were compared. ..
Intrahepatic Artery Pseudoaneurysm as a Delayed Presentation of Blunt Abdominal Trauma
Arterial pseudoaneurysm is an uncommon life-threatening complication in blunt trauma patients. Blunt liver injury may lead to hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm. Radiological intervention is the method of choice in diagnosis and treatment of hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm. However, surgical intervention is advised for unstable patients with large leaking defects. This study reports a case of 53-year-old female who was admitted with vague abdominal pain. She had experienced a blunt abdominal trauma a year ago and had gone under liver packing procedure. The CT-scan results showed hematoma in RUQ region and leaking pseudoaneurysm of right hepatic artery. Hematoma was drained and partial liver resection and hepatic arterioraphy were done through laparotomy
Blind source extraction of heart sound signals from lung sound recordings exploiting periodicity of the heart sound
A novel approach for separating heart sound signals (HSSs) from lung sound recordings is presented. The approach is based on blind source extraction (BSE) with second-order statistics (SOS), which exploits the quasi-periodicity of the HSSs. The method is evaluated on both synthetic periodic signals of known period mixed with temporally white Gaussian noise (WGN) as well as on real quasi periodic HSSs mixed with lung sound signals (LSSs). Qualitative evaluation involving comparison of the power spectral densities (PSDs) of the extracted signals, by the proposed method and by the JADE algorithm, and that of the original signal is performed for the case of real data. Separation results confirm the utility of the proposed approach, although departure from strict periodicity may impact performance
Evaluation of emerging frequency domain convolutive blind source separation algorithms based on real room recordings
This paper presents a comparative study of three of the emerging frequency domain convolutive blind source separation (FDCBSS) techniques i.e. convolutive blind separation of non-stationary sources due to Parra and Spence, penalty function-based joint diagonalization approach for convolutive blind separation of nonstationary sources due to Wang et al. and a geometrically constrained multimodal approach for convolutive blind source separation due to Sanei et al. Objective evaluation is performed on the basis of signal to interference ratio (SIR), performance index (PI) and solution to the permutation problem. The results confirm that a multimodal approach is necessary to properly mitigate the permutation in BSS and ultimately to solve the cocktail party problem. In other words, it is to make BSS semiblind by exploiting prior geometrical information, and thereby providing the framework to find robust solutions for more challenging source separation with moving speakers
