Evaluation of Records of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Cases Reported at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and Karachi Medical and Dental College, Pakistan
Background: Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department is a diverse field in dentistry. Record maintenance has been established as one of the key factors in the success and integrity of health care institutes.Objective: The objective of the study was to evaluate the records of oral and maxillofacial surgery casesreported to oral and maxillofacial surgery department, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and oral surgery OPD ofKarachi Medical and Dental College.Methods: Cross sectional study was conducted in at ASH and KMDC from July 2019 to September 2019.The data from January 2017 to July 2019 was retrospectively noted through electronic surgical recordof ASH and records of the Oral Surgery OPD of KMDC. Inclusion criteria was patients records of bothgenders of 5–70 years age, having complaint of any oral or dental pathology or pathologies, trauma andimpactions. Data was calculated manually by calculating frequencies and percentages for the trauma,impaction and pathology cases of patients.Results: In 2017, 239 cases were treated under general anesthesia from which trauma 11. 45% (n=11),followed by 48. 11% (n=115) cases of oral pathologies, total 11.7% (n=28) cases of complicated exodontias. In2018, among 211, 51.1% (n=108) cases were trauma followed by 39.3% (n=83) cases of oral pathologies,whereas, total 9.4% (n=20) complicated exodontias cases were observed. During 2019 (January to July),168 cases 36.2% (n=62) cases were diagnosed as trauma, in oral pathology, overall 36.2% (n=62) caseswere surgically excised. Total 23.2% (n=39) complicated exodontias. In 2017, 25122 cases were reported in Surgery OPD of Karachi Medical and Dental College. Total 36.2% (n=9097) teeth were extracted from which 1.93% (n=486) cases were surgical impaction. On the other hand, 1.65% (n=416) patients were treated through minor oral surgeries. In 2018, 29008 cases were reported in Surgery OPD. Total 42.7% (n=12377) teeth were extracted from which 0.92% (n=268) cases were surgical impaction. On the other hand, 0.71% (n=208) patients were treated through minor surgeries. In 2019, January till July 13028 cases were reported in Surgery OPD. Total42.6% (n=5559) teeth were extracted from which 0.66% (n=87) cases were surgical impaction. On the other hand, 0.68% (n=89) patients were treated through minor surgeries.Conclusion: It has been concluded that evaluation of the records of oral and maxillofacial surgery casesreported to oral and maxillofacial surgery department, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and oral surgery OPD ofKarachi Medical and Dental College were high and appropriate measures should be taken in order tomanage these problems timely and effectively
The rotation rates of massive stars: the role of binary interaction through tides, mass transfer and mergers
Rotation is thought to be a major factor in the evolution of massive stars,
especially at low metallicity, with consequences for their chemical yields,
ionizing flux and final fate. Determining the natal rotation-rate distribution
of stars is of high priority given its importance as a constraint on theories
of massive star formation and as input for models of stellar populations in the
local Universe and at high redshift. Recently, it has become clear that the
majority of massive stars interact with a binary companion before they die. We
investigate how this affects the distribution of rotation rates.
For this purpose, we simulate a massive binary-star population typical for
our Galaxy assuming continuous star formation. We find that, because of binary
interaction, 20^+5_-10% of all massive main-sequence stars have projected
rotational velocities in excess of 200km/s. We evaluate the effect of uncertain
input distributions and physical processes and conclude that the main
uncertainties are the mass transfer efficiency and the possible effect of
magnetic braking, especially if magnetic fields are generated or amplified
during mass accretion and stellar mergers.
The fraction of rapid rotators we derive is similar to that observed. If
indeed mass transfer and mergers are the main cause for rapid rotation in
massive stars, little room remains for rapidly rotating stars that are born
single. This implies that spin down during star formation is even more
efficient than previously thought. In addition, this raises questions about the
interpretation of the surface abundances of rapidly rotating stars as evidence
for rotational mixing. Furthermore, our results allow for the possibility that
all early-type Be stars result from binary interactions and suggest that
evidence for rotation in explosions, such as long gamma-ray bursts, points to a

Robust Control of Input Limited Smart Structural Systems
Integration of controllers with smart structural systems require the controllers to consume less power and to be small in hardware size. These requirements pose as limits on the control input and the order of the controllers. Use of reduced order model of the plant in the controller design can cause spill over problems in the closed-loop system due to possible excitation of the unmodeled dynamics. In this paper, we present a method to design output feedback robust controllers for smart structures in the presence of control input limits considering unmodeled dynamics as additive uncertainty in the design. The performance requirements for the design are specified as regional pole placement constraints on the closed-loop poles. The controller design problem requires the maximization of damping ratio in the presence of additive uncertainty and control input limits. The resulting optimization problem for the controller design is formulated as a generalized eigenvalue problem involving linear matrix inequality (LMI) constraints. The proposed controller is designed and implemented on a multiinput-multioutput 3-mass smart structural test article. The tradeoffs involved in the controller design are analyzed and the performance and robustness specifications are verified experimentall
Risk Factors of Diarrhoea in Malnourished Children Under Age of 5 Years
Background: Acute infectious enteritis remains one of the commonest causes of death among infants and children in developing countries. Acute enteritis is defined as a loss of stool consistency with pasty or liquid stools, and/or an increase in stool frequency to more than three stools in 24 hours with or without fever or vomiting. Human survival depends on the secretion and reabsorption of fluid and electrolytes in the intestinal tract. The objective of the study is to evaluate the risk factors of diarrhoea in children under age of 5 years.
Methodology: It was an observational study. Study was completed in about six months. Non-probability purposive sampling technique was used. In this study, 270 samples were taken from Diarrheal ward of The Children Hospital Lahore, Pakistan.
Results: In this study, out of 270 patients, 58.52% were males and 41.48% were females. 90.37% patients were vaccinated. 54.81% had weaning history. 91.85% patients had feeding history. 29.26% had blood in stool. 96.67% patients were dehydrated. 95.56% patients had loose watery diarrhoea. 62.96% patients used boiled water. 58.52% patients consumed less than half litre of water, 30.00% patients consumed 1 litre of water and 11.48% patients consumed > 1 litre of water. 49.18% patients had proper hygiene. 38.15% mothers of patients were well educated. 40.37% patients had model household condition. 57.41% patients lived in rural area and 42.59% patients lived in urban area.
Conclusion: The variation in the level of diarrheal morbidity was well explained by maternal education, income, personal hygiene, refuse disposal system and the effect of health extension programme
The properties of single WO stars
The enigmatic oxygen sequence Wolf-Rayet (WO) stars represent a very late
stage in massive star evolution, although their exact nature is still under
debate. The spectra of most of the WO stars have never been analysed through
detailed modelling with a non-local thermodynamic equilibrium expanding
atmosphere code. Here we present preliminary results of the first homogeneous

Hypotensive Activity of Moringa oleifera Lam (Moringaceae) Root Extracts and its Volatile Constituents
Purpose: To explore the hypotensive activity and chemical composition of Moringa oleifera Lam (Moringaceae) roots.Methods: The fresh roots of M. oleifera was cut into small pieces and successively extracted with petroleum ether (PE) and dichloromethane (DC). PE extract was further divided into MRP and MRP -1. DC extract showed a thick mass during evaporation which was separated as MRDC - IN. The mother liquor left was divided into MRDC and MRDC -1. All residues were analyzed by gas chromatographymass spectroscopy (GC-MS) using ZB-5 column. Identification of each extract and fraction was based on comparison of their retention indices (RI), by co-injecting authentic compounds, as well as by comparing literature data available in NIST Standard Reference Database. Hypotensive activity was determined on urethane-anesthetized normotensive Sprague Dawly rats.Results: Petroleum ether (MRP) and dichloromethane (MRDC) extracts of M. oleifera roots showed 50.06 ± 3.48 and 48.16 ± 1.79 % fall in mean arterial blood pressure (MABP), respectively, at a dose of 30 mg/kg (p < 0.01 and p < 0.05, respectively) compared with control. GC-MS analysis of MRP and MRDC extracts and fractions resulted in the identification of seventy four (74) compounds. Methyl hexadecanoate (7, 20.3 %) , stigmastan - 3, 5, diene (24, 19.32 %), methyl 14-hydroxy-5-tetradecenoate (9, 19.22 %), 1 , 11 diphenyl undecane (47, 18.78 %) and cyclopentanyl hexadecane (39, 14.44 %) were the major constituents among the various hydrocarbons, fatty acids, esters, alcohols, aldehydes, isothiocyanate, aromatics, steroids, terphenyl and sulphur-containing compounds. Conclusion: The findings reveal the hypotensive potential of M. oleifera roots and the presence of specific hydrocarbons, fatty acid esters, thioureides, steroids and isothiocyanates in active fractions. Utilization of PVC Particles to Improve the Bending Properties of Epoxy and Unsaturated Polyester
Two sets of polymeric composites were formed. The first set included epoxy as matrix ,while the second set included unsaturated polyester (UP) as matrix. The two sets were reinforced with Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) at different volume fractions. Each set was formed into two groups: one was allowed to cure at room temperature and the other was post cured at 40°C for 4hr . The percent of reinforcing and the curing temperature can affect the behavior of composites. The epoxy composites is the highest in flexural properties than unsaturated polyester composites after reinforcing with thermoplastic material (PVC) .
