Variable message sign (VMS) information design : From user perspective / Noor Azlina Samsudin
This research examines the Variable Message Sign (VMS) information design from user
perspective. VMS information design will affect the user when they are using title road or
highway to travel. The poor or unreadable information will make the user unable to
make decision to change the route or slower the speed at certain road. Furthermore,
some users are difficult to understand the messages that are displayed by VMS.
Therefore, this research will give an opportunity to user to view or give their opinion
about the VMS information design that are suitable for their eye view or other user in
order to ensure their safety while they are commute. The research method that use in this
research is consists of research model and research approach and methodology.
Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) is use as a research model that represents an
important theoretical contribution toward understanding of Information System (IS)
usage. There are two types of research approach that had been used which are including
primary data and secondary data. Questionnaire is use as primary data while journals,
articles and Internet as a secondary data. The finding of this research show that majority
of the respondent was satisfied with the service that provided by VMS. They also admit
that VMS provides many advantages to them. The types of gender, age, level education
and profession field had been identified as factors that influencing user perspective
towards VMS. There are also a few recommendations on improving VMS information
design based on user perspective

Assessing Customer-based Brand Equity Ratings in Family Restaurant
AbstractDue to customer's changing demand and increased competition among restaurants, brand has become vital for the business to succeed. One of the strategies is to focus on improving their brand to add value to the restaurants. Brand equity holds the key element of differentiation among competitors and this has been regarded as valuable asset. This study employed four dimensions of customer-based brand equity; brand loyalty, perceived quality, brand awareness and brand association in determining the customer-based brand equity ratings. The study was conducted in three different family restaurant brands in Klang Valley with 349 usable questionnaires were analyzed by using one-way ANOVA. The Scheffe's test result proved that The Chicken Rice Shop was significantly different from others and obtained a higher brand equity rating (M=5.17, SD=.81). However, Pizza Hut (M=4.51, SD=.97) and Rasamas (M=4.30, SD=1.12) did not significantly different to each other. The implications and recommendations for restaurant operators and practitioners were also highlighted
Genotoxicity study of sea coral used as bone replacement material
Most of the methods available today to detect carcinogens and mutagens are based upon the principle that genotoxicity/mutagenicity may serve as an indicator of carcinogenic potential. This in vitro study was made to evaluate the genotoxicity characteristic of coral of Porites sp. produced by the National Tissue Bank, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), by using the Bacterial Reverse Mutation Assay test or Ames test. The Bacterial Reverse Mutation Assay of the coral material was performed on Salmonella typhimurium strains TA98, TAIOO, TA1535, TA1537 and Escherichia coli strain WP2 uvr A using the preincubation method in the presence and absence of an
exogenous metabolic activation system. The results showed the numbers of revertant colonies of all strains which -were treated with the test substance were less than twice that of each negative control with and without S9 Mix.In conclusion the results of the tests showed that the coral material was considered to have no reverse mutagenic potential under the present test condition
Lowering of palm oil cloud point by enzymatic acidolysis
This study was carried out to lower the cloud point value of palm oil by enzymatic acidolysis at different mole ratio of palm oil to capric acid of 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 and 1:5. Lipase 1, 3-specific from Rhizomucor miehei; lipozyme RM IM was used in this study. Cloud point value was determined using PORIM p4.3 method (1995). Results showed that by increasing the mole ratio of palm oil to capric acid resulted in the increase of cloud point value before and after acidolysis significantly (p<0.05). The cloud point value was decreased after acidolysis for each mole ratio

This study empirically examines the level of consumers’ understanding and knowledge about food crisis and Genetically Modified (GM) foods. In this study, quantitative and qualitative methods or known as triangulation methods had been applied. Through quantitative methods, the questionnaire survey was developed to evaluate consumers’ understanding, knowledge and the perception of food crisis and GM Foods which are the main issues of this research. Using the qualitative approach, the face-to-face interview approach was conducted among experts of various areas such as biotechnology, economic and food industry and it provided truly significant and in-depth information for this study. The overall findings from this study could be streamlined and at the end it clearly indicates that during global and Malaysian food crisis, there is a need for GM foods and the scientific advance such as GM foods is important to deal with the long term needs. However, it is important to see a more focused initiative and systematic development for biotechnology in Malaysia. Thus, efforts to increase funding and improve coordination between government agencies, private companies, academicians and experts responsible for food assistance are all excellent initiatives that have to be looked into
Perceived ease of use (PEOU) and perceived usefulness (PU) of information technology application towards managerial productivity in fast food chain outlets
The usage of information technology in fast food chain outlets is to be pervasive and compulsory to improve organizational performance and strategic competitiveness. However, having technology available is not enough, it must be accepted and used appropriately by its target user group in order to realize anticipated productivity gains. Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship between perceived ease of use (PEOU) and perceived usefulness (PU) of information technology application towards managerial productivity of managers who are attached in the fast food chain outlets in the Klang Valley area. A random survey with questionnaire method was conducted as a quantitative data collection on 326 managers from participating food chain outlets with regard to their acceptance of IT application leading to their productivity. The findings indicated that perceived usefulness (PU) have significant (positive) relationship on managerial productivity (MP). In contrast, ease of use (EOU) has insignificant (negative) relationship on MP. It has been concluded that perceived usefulness of IT application was influence the productivity of managers and on the other hand, the ease of use not influence manager's productivity in today's work environment. Based on the findings, it is hoped that this study will further enhance knowledge in the human resources field and training, with respect to managers' attitude and awareness towards IT application in restaurant operations

Association between social-cognitive factors and intention towards sexual activity among schoolgoing late adolescents in Kuantan, Malaysia
This was a cross-sectional study to identify the association between sociocognitive factors (permissive attitude, social-norms, and self-efficacy) and intention towards sexual activity among 466 Malaysian school-going late adolescents (aged 18–19 years) in Kuantan, Malaysia. Majority were
females (64.4%), Malays (67.4%) and Muslims (68.2%). Simple logistic regression from data collected by self-administered validated Youth Sexual-Intention Questionnaire (YSI-Q) showed significantly increase risk of having sexual intention for each unit increase in permissive attitude, social-norms and self-efficacy scores with the odds ratio (OR) of 1.424,
1.303 and 1.215, respectively. On the other hand, multivariate logistic regression resulted in male, non-Malay, ever-smoker students and permissive attitude showing significantly higher risk towards having sexual intention with the OR of 0.163 (male was the reference group), 5.110, 3.288 and 1.236, respectively. In order to reduce risky sexual behaviour
among adolescents, school-based health education is essential
