X-56A Structural Dynamics Ground Testing Overview and Lessons Learned

The X-56A Multi-Utility Technology Testbed (MUTT) is a subscale, fixed-wing aircraft designed for high-risk aeroelastic flight demonstration and research. Structural dynamics ground testing for model validation was especially important for this vehicle because the structural model was directly used in the development of a flight control system with active flutter suppression capabilities. Structural dynamics ground tests of the X-56A MUTT with coupled rigid-body and structural modes provided a unique set of challenges. An overview of the ground vibration test (GVT) and moment of inertia (MOI) test setup and execution is presented. The series of GVTs included the wing by itself attached to a strongback and complete vehicle at two mass conditions: empty and full fuel. Two boundary conditions for the complete-vehicle test were studied: on landing gear and suspended free-free. Pitch MOI tests were performed using a compound pendulum method and repeated with two different pendulum lengths for independent verification. The original soft-support test configuration for the GVT used multiple bungees, resulting in unforeseen coupling interactions between the soft-support bungees and the vehicle structural modes. To resolve this problem, the soft-support test setup underwent multiple iterations. The various GVT configurations and boundary-condition modifications are highlighted and explained. Lessons learned are captured for future consideration when performing structural dynamics testing with similar vehicles

The marriage of Philip of Habsburg and Mary Tudor and anti-Spanish sentiment in England : political economies and culture, 1553-1557.

PhDThis thesis examines the early part of Mary I's reign, focusing on her marriage to Philip of Habsburg and the marginalisation of their co-monarchy in Tudor historiography. By looking at the diplomatic background and political opposition in England, I interrogate the notion that anti-Spanish sentiment was a central cause of the Wyatt rebellion, arguing that instead its aetiology lay in female sovereignty and the constitutional uncertainties produced by it. Dynasticism tended to alienate power from familiar, local and territorial sources of political authority. Infant mortality and the vicissitudes of the marriage market in this context threatened discrete 'national' identities with an incipient imperialist internationalism. I analyse in detail the marriage contract and 'Act declaring that the regal power of this realm is in the Queen's Majesty', using them as evidence to show that anxieties about property rights were not related to the repudiation of the Supremacy, repeal of Henrician legislation and return of papal jurisdiction. The staging of the wedding harped on Philip's inferior status, inverting that which the marriage ceremony rehearsed. The Castilian writing of England as a romance of chivalry sublimated a sexual licence which repeated the fears played upon by exiled polemicists that the kingdom had been transformed into the feminised subject of Spanish male authority. Anti-Spanish propaganda did not reflect popular xenophobia. It was literate and sophisticated, related to sectarian struggle and engaged with theories of justifiable disobedience. From Conflict to Cohesion: Unveiling Ambon's Journey Through Collective Memory Analysis and Post-Conflict Reconciliation

This article delves into the religious conflict that transpired in Ambon from 1999 to 2004, with a specific focus on elucidating the formation of collective memory as a pivotal mechanism for fostering post-conflict reconciliation. Employing a methodology amalgamating literature review and in-depth interviews, this research scrutinizes the intricate dynamics of the conflict, delineating the roles played by both Muslim and Christian communities, not only as victims but also as perpetrators. The principal findings underscore the shared responsibility of both groups in instigating the conflict, resulting in egregious acts such as assaults, homicides, and property destruction. The article accentuates the imperative of mutual acknowledgment regarding each community's role in the conflict as an indispensable stride towards reconciliation. It posits that an accurate and all-encompassing collective memory of the conflict serves as a catalyst for communities to critically assess their religious practices and fosters a climate of receptivity to broader religious understandings. Daily Behavior Of Estuary Crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus, Schneider 1801) In The Crocodile Capture, Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan Province

Saltwater crocodile or Crocodylus porosus, is the largest crocodile species in the world. This reptile is not only living in the river as main habitat, but also near the sea, especially at the estuary area. The purpose of this research was to determine the daily behaviour of saltwater crocodiles based on their sex and age. This research was using Continuos Watching Method. The observed variable of behaviour are body movement, feeding, basking, and social in Teritip Crocodile Farm, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. Chi-Square test showed that the observed object behaviour has differences in activities frequency and population density. In the moving behavior, adult male and teenage crocodiles (both male and female), are more active than female mature crocodiles. In the feeding behavior, hunting has the same way, that is by pouncing abruptly. Differences exist in the way they pounce on prey bodies (at the head, full body, or another body parts), as well as the selection of places to eat food (at land or water surface). In the basking behavior, the differences are seen when they are choosing the sundeck (at land or water surface) and the activities they do while basking (open or close his mouth). In the social behavior, teenage crocodiles are more actively fighting than adult. Meanwhile, adult crocodiles are active in dominance aspects while teenage do not. Specifically, female adult crocodiles are active in vocalizing and keeping the nest, while adult and teenage crocodiles are not

Inter-individual variation in DNA repair capacity: A need for multi-pathway functional assays to promote translational DNA repair research

Why does a constant barrage of DNA damage lead to disease in some individuals, while others remain healthy? This article surveys current work addressing the implications of inter-individual variation in DNA repair capacity for human health, and discusses the status of DNA repair assays as potential clinical tools for personalized prevention or treatment of disease. In particular, we highlight research showing that there are significant inter-individual variations in DNA repair capacity (DRC), and that measuring these differences provides important biological insight regarding disease susceptibility and cancer treatment efficacy. We emphasize work showing that it is important to measure repair capacity in multiple pathways, and that functional assays are required to fill a gap left by genome wide association studies, global gene expression and proteomics. Finally, we discuss research that will be needed to overcome barriers that currently limit the use of DNA repair assays in the clinic

Differences in Teacher and Student Demographic Characteristics by Middle School Accountability Rating: A Statewide, Multiyear Investigation

In this investigation, the degree to which the percentage of beginning teachers and student ethnicity/race enrollment percentages in Texas middle schools differed between two distinction designations (i.e., Academic Achievement in Reading/English Language Arts and Academic Achievement in Mathematics) was addressed. Data for the 2012-2013 through the 2015-2016 school years were obtained from the Texas Academic Performance Reports. Statistically significant differences were yielded in the percentage of beginning teachers as a function of distinction designation. Higher percentages of beginning teachers were present in middle schools that did not meet the two distinction designations than in schools that did meet the two distinction designations. With respect to student enrollment percentages by ethnicity/race, higher percentages of Asian students and Hispanic students and lower percentages of Black students and White students were present at schools that met the two distinction designation

Accurate photoionisation cross section for He at non-resonant photon energies

The total single-photon ionisation cross section was calculated for helium atoms in their ground state. Using a full configuration-interaction approach the photoionisation cross section was extracted from the complex-scaled resolvent. In the energy range from ionisation threshold to 59\,eV our results agree with an earlier $B$-spline based calculation in which the continuum is box discretised within a relative error of $0.01\%$ in the non-resonant part of the spectrum. Above the \He^{++} threshold our results agree on the other hand very well to a recent Floquet calculation. Thus our calculation confirms the previously reported deviations from the experimental reference data outside the claimed error estimate. In order to extend the calculated spectrum to very high energies, an analytical hydrogenic-type model tail is introduced that should become asymptotically exact for infinite photon energies. Its universality is investigated considering also H$^-$, Li$^+$, and HeH$^+$. With the aid of the tail corrections to the dipole approximation are estimated.Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures, 2 table
