Studying the impact of construction dewatering discharges to the urban storm drainage network(s) of Doha city using infoworks integrated catchment modeling (ICM)

    Get PDF
The discharge of construction dewatering flows to the storm drainage network for disposal is a common activity in Qatar. The Dupuit empirical approach was utilized to establish various hypothetical dewatering scenarios on the basis of site classifications, which were modeled on 4 Case Study Areas of Doha’s Existing Surface Drainage Network in order to study the impact of dewatering discharge against an established baseline. The simulations were undertaken using InfoWorks Integrated Catchment Modeling (ICM) software for critical and non-critical rainfall events. The results indicated significant localized flooding in excess of the baseline conditions for scenarios exceeding 0.5 m3/sec flows, while individual catchments demonstrated variations and sensitivities on the basis of catchment properties and rainfall events. It is evident that dewatering discharge under unpredictable rainfall events poses various levels of risk to the city’s infrastructure, which is further exacerbated due to the massive scale of construction activity in the country and the rising ground water table in Greater Doha Area basin

The durability of asphalt pavement is associated with the properties and performance of the binder. This work-study intended to understand the impact of blending Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene (SBS) to conventional asphalt concrete mixtures and calculating the Optimum Asphalt Content (OAC) for conventional mixture also; compare the performance between SBS modified with the conventional mixture. Two different kinds of asphalt penetration grades, A.C. (40-50) and A.C. (60-70), were improved with 2.5 and 3.5% SBS polymer, respectively. Marshall properties were determined in this work. Optimum Asphalt Content (OAC) was 4.93 and 5.1% by weight of mixture for A.C. (40-50) and (60-70), respectively. Marshall properties results show an increasement in the stability value by 8.65 and 20.19% for A.C. (40-50) with 2.5 and 3.5% of SBS, respectively. And an increasement by 9.32 and 20.61% for AC (60-70) with 2.5 and 3.5% of SBS respectively. Furthermore, the results indicate a decrease in Marshall flow by 14.7 and 26.47% for A.C. (40-50) with 2.5 and 3.5% SBS respectively and a decrease by 10.46 and 21.21% for A.C. (60-70) with 2.5 and 3.5% SBS respectively. Other Marshall properties were also calculated. Moreover, Blending SBS polymers to conventional asphalt mixtures produces a better performance to asphalt binder and better Marshall properties, which provides a great solution to Iraqi road problems affected by temperature and high traffic load, including less maintenance. Doi: 10.28991/cej-2021-03091709 Full Text: PD

Remote Data Auditing in a Cloud Computing Environment

    Get PDF
In the current paradigms of information technology, cloud computing is the most essential kind of computer service. It satisfies the need for high-volume customers, flexible computing capabilities for a range of applications like as database archiving and business analytics, and the requirement for extra computer resources to provide a financial value for cloud providers. The purpose of this investigation is to assess the viability of doing data audits remotely inside a cloud computing setting. There includes discussion of the theory behind cloud computing and distributed storage systems, as well as the method of remote data auditing. In this research, it is mentioned to safeguard the data that is outsourced and stored in cloud servers. There are four different techniques of remote data auditing procedures that are presented here for distributed cloud services. There are several difficulties associated with data audit methods; however, these difficulties may be overcome by using a variety of techniques, such as the Boneh-Lynn-Shacham signature or the automated blocker protocol. In addition to that, other difficulties associated with distributed-based remote data auditing solutions are discussed. In addition, a variety of approaches might be researched further for further examination in order to find answers to these impending problems

This examination by utilizing GIS and Remote Sensing procedures to planning highlights of Al-Kut city, Iraq from 2004 to 2014, in order to classify developments that has occurred between these periods. The using of satellite image (Quick bird satellite) with depending on remote detecting and GIS to identify Land Use/Land Cover change which is defined as the amount of the distinct information and current change data that can incite continuously touchable bits of information into basic strategies, including land spread and land use changes. The process of defining the Changes related to LULC properties called change detection and it’s referenced to Geo-registered high resolution. It is useful in many applications such as identification of land use changes, the amount of deforestation, urban extension, and other cumulative changes through spatial and historical analysis techniques. The dependable method briefly by data acquisition (satellite image with resolution 0.60 m) and geo-referenced with GCPs to produce a thematic map of feature classified and making the statistical analyzing.ARC map software help us to make this easy by depending on entering two types of data, first one is satellite image and second one is ground control points.  This study shows a development in built-up land and expansion from 2004 to 2014, however in the city, land decreasing, which is due to the development and growth in it. Finally, the result shows the decreasing in waterbodies and waste land area with noticed increasing of using land. These progressions are mainly happening with uncontrolled urban growth

Secured node detection technique based on artificial neural network for wireless sensor network

    Get PDF
The wireless sensor network is becoming the most popular network in the last recent years as it can measure the environmental conditions and send them to process purposes. Many vital challenges face the deployment of WSNs such as energy consumption and security issues. Various attacks could be subjects against WSNs and cause damage either in the stability of communication or in the destruction of the sensitive data. Thus, the demands of intrusion detection-based energy-efficient techniques rise dramatically as the network deployment becomes vast and complicated. Qualnet simulation is used to measure the performance of the networks. This paper aims to optimize the energy-based intrusion detection technique using the artificial neural network by using MATLAB Simulink. The results show how the optimized method based on the biological nervous systems improves intrusion detection in WSN. In addition to that, the unsecured nodes are affected the network performance negatively and trouble its behavior. The regress analysis for both methods detects the variations when all nodes are secured and when some are unsecured. Thus, Node detection based on packet delivery ratio and energy consumption could efficiently be implemented in an artificial neural network

Finite Element Analysis of Horizontal Axis Wind Turbine Blades Using NACA 4412 Series

Wind turbine technology is one of the rapid growth sectors of renewable energy all over the world. The ultimate objective of the project work is to increase the output power under specified atmospheric conditions. From the technical point of view, the output power depends on the shape of the blade. The blade plays a pivotal role, because it is the most important part of the energy absorption system. Finite element analysis was conducted by different materials used for blade fabrication namely glass fiber with epoxy resin, Aluminum and teak wood. The research work focuses on NACA4412. Also, the performance of a wind turbine blade is highly dependent on the structure Total deformation, Stress and Strain of the blade is critical to the wind turbine system service life. So, the wind turbine blades are analyzed taking these parameters into account

1 online resource (iii, 33 p.) : col. ill.Includes abstract and appendices.Includes bibliographical references (p. 32-33).This paper examines and analyzes the effect of the increase in dividend announcements on the stock price on the Toronto Stocks Exchange, by selecting 50 firms from different sectors which announce increases in dividends during the period of 2001 to 2010. The focus in this study is analyzing the effect of the event in short periods of time (3 days, 7 days and 11 days). As expected, the study finds that most firms have a positive relationship between the increase in dividends and stock price. However, there was a negative relationship between the stock price of some firms and the increase in dividends. In conclusion, this study finds that the increase in dividend announcements does affect stock prices. However, investors cannot make abnormal returns due to this event
