Behavioral Disorders Prevalence in Pediatrics Primary Care. Region of Valencia, Spain, 2009
Background: Childhood and adolescence mental health needs a proper monitoring. The aim is to estimate behavioral disorders preva- lence in paediatric primary care in the Region of Valencia (Spain) and to describe its distribution according to sex, age and impact areas.
Methods: Cross-sectional research. Region of Valencia’s Health Surveillance Network observed along 2009 the behavioral disorders in patients primary health care between 3 and 14 years old. Prevalence and confidence intervals at 95% were calculated. Chi-square test (p<0,05) was calculated to explore the differences in behavioral disorders accor- ding to sex, age and impact areas.
Results: Total cases notified were 626. Out of participants 70% were boys. The estimate overall prevalence for the population between 3-14 years old was 351 per 10.000 (IC95%: 330-372), 491(IC95%:456- 525) in boys and 202 (IC95%:179-226) in girls. Hyperactivity was the highest prevalence (85 per 10.000, CI: 74-95). The 7-10 age grup years old had the highest prevalence (428 per 10.000, IC95%:367-489). The impact in the family was 69,4% in boys and 65,9% in girls (p<0,5).
Conclusions: The Behavioral Disorders prevalence found in pae- diatrics patients in primary care was important, showed different epide- miologic profile as function of age and sex, and proved the family was the principal impact area.
Criticism of illusionism and defense of plurifocality. Plato's influence
[EN] In general, there are two ways to account for reality: tragically or epically. Plato criticized the first one and applauded the second one. To these forms correspond two modes of representation in perspective: conical or illusionist, and axonometric or reflective. We propose to remark that, unlike some illusionist authors of the Renaissance and Baroque, certain artists of twentieth-century Modernity opted for the epic representation of reality, whose plurifocal objectivity guarantees axonometry.[ES] En general, hay dos formas de dar cuenta de la realidad: trágica o épicamente. HIV Prevention Interventions for Young Male Commercial Sex Workers
The sex industry, where men sell sexual services to other men or women, has grown in recent years. These men who offer sexual services are particularly vulnerable to HIV infection due to such factors as: frequency of risky sexual practices, number of sex partners, drug-taking, prevalence of sexually-transmitted infections (STI) and their specific situation of social exclusion which may hinder access to health services. These multi-faceted realities faced by sex workers explain the burgeoning interest in new avenues of scientific research. There are too few preventive programs however aimed at this population group and the studies that evaluate their effectiveness are fewer still. In this article we survey more recent studies on the difficulties of implementing programs for HIV prevention in male sex workers (MSW), as well as the studies that have gauged the impact of preventive programs in this group
Effectiveness of HIV prevention for women: What is working?
The HIV-AIDS remains a public health prob-
lem which disproportionally affects women. However,
prevention strategies have rarely considered their specific
efficacy for them. For this reason, this study examines the
differential effectiveness of six intervention elements based
on socio-cognitive theories addressing young women. A
controlled between-groups design examined the change in
risk profile among 167 young Spanish women (mean age
21.3 years old) involved in five sexual risk prevention
interventions (informative talk, attitudinal discussion, role-
play, fear induction and informative website) and one
control non-intervening group (waiting list). Our findings
support the differential efficacy of some HIV preventive
intervention elements comparing others for women. In
particular, the attitudinal discussion stands out followed
by the informative talk and the role play. Contrarily, the
fear induction component did not reveal relevant
improvements. This study provides new evidence related to
HIV prevention. Particularly, the higher efficacy of moti-
vational components for these young Spanish women is
revealed.
Sexual Compulsivity Scale: Adaptation and Validation in the Spanish Population
Sexual compulsivity has been studied in relation to high-risk behavior for sexually transmitted infections. The aim of this study was the adaptation and validation of the Sexual Compulsivity Scale to a sample of Spanish young people. This scale was applied to 1,196 (891 female, 305 male) Spanish college students. The results of principal components factor analysis using a varimax rotation indicated a two-factor solution. The reliability of the Sexual Compulsivity Scale was found to be high. Moreover, the scale showed good temporal stability. External correlates were examined through Pearson correlations between the Sexual Compulsivity Scale and other constructs related with HIV prevention. The authors’ results suggest that the Sexual Compulsivity Scale is an appropriate measure for assessing sexual compulsivity, showing adequate psychometric properties in the Spanish population
Sexual Behaviors in Male Sex Workers in Spain: Modulating Factors
This study analyzed how the culture of origin, educational level, sexual orientation, and experience of male sex workers may mediate their commercial sexual behaviors. A total of 100 Spanish agency male sex workers were interviewed. Most of them were young men, Latin American, homosexual, and had middle-level education. Our results showed that cultural differences and sexual orientation could influence male sex workers when engaging in sexual behaviors with their clients. Social and health projects with male sex workers may have to take into account sexual myths and taboos related to sexual orientation and cultural differences
Introduction: Traditionally, people are classified into three categories according to their
sexual orientation: heterosexual, homosexual and bisexual. This classification has become
obsolete and people talk about a continuum in which different sexual orientations
are located with exclusive ends: heterosexuality and homosexuality. Apparently in numerous
countries the diversity of sexual orientations is quite accepted, but reality is different.
This study aims to analyse sexual orientation and attitudes towards homosexuality in
young people. Method: An observational descriptive study with 139 females and 165
males aged 14-18 years (X=15.8; SD±1.13) that included two questionnaires: one about
sexual interests and practices, and the other on subtle and manifest homophobia. Results:
Of the whole sample, 3.2% indicated a different orientation from the heterosexual
one, and this percentage roses when asking about orientation according to a continuum
(17.2% not located on the exclusive heterosexuality extreme). Both males and females
had generally negative attitudes towards homosexuality, with males obtained higher
scores in this construct. These negative attitudes towards homosexuality correlated inversely
to age and sexual orientation, as measured in a continuum (the highest value was
for homosexuality). Conclusions: Homophobia among adolescents remains a recognised
reality. Given the severe consequences that homophobia may have on adolescents
whose sexual affective expression is far from heteronormativity, educational campaigns
are urgently needed to cushion this form of discrimination
(neuroticismo, responsabilidad y deseabilidad social).
The male is often troubled by concerns that his penis is not large enough to satisfy his
partner or himself, belief that dominates and determines sexual life. Also, this belief causes that many men tend to lie about his penis size, exaggerating his real dimensions.
A sample of 130 youths underwent an assessment procedure where we estimated
precision in their penis size reported and its relationship with certain psychological
variables. Data show a clear tendency to report penis measures far above from
expected considering his age and race –especially for erect penis length. Furthermore,
difference between real size and reported size is related with certain personality dimensions
(such as neuroticism, conscientiousness, and social desirability). These results

(hombres: 12,7 y mujeres: 14,3; t = -6,38; p < 0,05). Se hallaron diferencias significa-
tivas en el número de fantasías sexuales que presentaban ambos sexos (t = -2,062;
Introduction: The concept “sexual fantasy” defines any thought or image that triggers
excitation in a person. It might be a real story, a drawing imaginary or a fleeting thought.
They are common during masturbation or sexual intercourse but also in non-sexual
situations. The aim of this study is to analyze the prevalence of the most common
sexual fantasies among youth, as well as to study possible differences based on demo-
graphic variables. Methodology: The responses of 192 men and 208 women aged
between 18 and 26 (m = 21.8; sd = 2.2), to our particular online version of the Sierra et
al. (2006) Spanish adaptation of the sfq (Wilson, 1978) were analyzed. Results: The
mean age of the onset of sexual fantasies is 13.5 years (men: 12.7 and women: 14.3;
t = -6.381; p < 0.05). Significant differences on the number of sexual fantasies based
on sex were found (t = -2.062; p < 0.05), in which women reported a higher mean. A
significant higher mean in the bisexual orientation youth group compared to the hetero-
sexual orientation group was also found (f = 9.607; p < 0.05). Among the five most
prevalent sexual fantasies in each sex, men and women shared four of them. Conclu-
sions: Men experience sexual fantasies at an earlier age than women. There are sig-
nificant differences in the amount of sexual fantasies according to sex and sexual ori-
entation, but not about the subject matter
