The Melting ‘Crown of the Continent’: Visual History of Glacier National Park

Glacier National Park (GNP), located in northwest Montana, US, was signed into existence on 11 May 1910 by then President William Howard Taft. Conservationist George Bird Grinnell was instrumental in lobbying for the park’s creation and negotiated the sale with the Blackfeet Indians. As an editor of the outdoor magazine Field and Stream, Grinnell learned about the region from writer James Willard Schultz and made his first visit there in 1885. Enticed and amazed by the glaciers of the area, the high Rocky Mountain alpine terrain, and the flora and fauna that thrived here, Grinnell advocated for the creation of the park, nicknaming it the “Crown of the Continent.” Grinnell recognized glaciers as a geological wonder. As historian Gerald Diettert records in his 1992 book, Grinnell called the glaciers the “jewels” in the crown. Setting aside land to enjoy the glaciers seemed like a logical means to conserve the landscapes and ecosystems that they supported. OPTIMISME DAN HARDINESS PADA DOKTER MUDA YANG SEDANG MELAKSANAKAN CO-AS DI RUMAH SAKIT UMUM DAERAH ZAINOEL ABIDIN (RSUDZA) BANDA ACEH

ABSTRAKMahasiswa kedokteran memiliki dua tahap pendidikan yaitu sebagai mahasiswa di universitas dan dokter muda di rumah sakit. Beratnya tugas dokter muda sangat menuntut keyakinan dan ketangguhan pribadi agar mampu menghadapi berbagai tantangan ketika menjalani co-as. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti hubungan antara optimisme dengan hardiness pada Dokter Muda yang sedang melaksanakan Co-As di RSUDZA Banda Aceh. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah proportionate stratified random sampling. Berdasarkan tabel Isaac & Michael sampel penelitian ini berjumlah 198 Dokter Muda yang terdiri dari angkatan 2014 dan 2015. Alat ukur yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini terdiri atas dua skala psikologi, yaitu skala optimisme dan skala hardiness. Hasil analisis data menggunakan teknik korelasi Spearman menunjukkan koefisien korelasi (r) sebesar 0,664 dengan nilai p = 0,000 (p < 0,05). Hipotesis yang diajukan diterima sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif dan signifikan antara optimisme dan hardiness pada Dokter Muda yang sedang melaksanakan Co-As di RSUDZA Banda Aceh.Kata Kunci: Optimisme, Hardiness, Dokter Muda, Co-A

The Effect of Political Advertising on Perceived Bias and Credibility of Online News Stories

This study was an investigation of the effect of political advertising on readers’ perceived bias and credibility of an online news article based on participants’ political leanings. Media priming and the hostile media effect were the theoretical underpinnings. Participants were asked to read an unbiased news article placed alongside 3 advertisements. Participants were put into 1 of 3 conditions — right-leaning advertisements, left-leaning advertisements, or neutral advertisements. They then answered questions about the perceived bias and credibility of the article and their own political affiliation. The researchers hypothesized that left-leaning individuals would perceive the article with right-leaning advertisements as biased and less credible and the opposite would be true of right-leaning individuals. Results were not consistent with hypotheses but trended in the expected directions

Optical Properties for SeTe Thin Films

Chalcogenide glasses SeTe have been prepared from the high purity constituent elements .Thin films of SeTe compound have been deposited by thermal evaporation onto glass substrates for different values of film thickness .
