    Entropic Entanglement Criteria for Continuous Variables

    We derive several entanglement criteria for bipartite continuous variable quantum systems based on the Shannon entropy. These criteria are more sensitive than those involving only second-order moments, and are equivalent to well-known variance product tests in the case of Gaussian states. Furthermore, they involve only a pair of quadrature measurements, and will thus should prove extremely useful the experimental identification of entanglement.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

    The chemical study of the extracts from leaves and stems of Ouratea ferruginea allowed the identification of a new isoflavone, 5-hydroxy-7,3′4′5′-tetramethoxyisoflavone, and twenty two known compounds, including friedelin, 3β-friedelinol, lupeone, a mixture of sitosterol, stigmasterol and campesterol, sitosteryl- and stigmasteryl-3-O-b-D-glucopyranosides, 5,4′-dihydroxy-7,5′,3′-trimethoxyisoflavone, 5,4′-dihydroxy-7,3′-di-methoxyisoflavone (7,3′-di-O-methylorobol), 5,7,4′-trihydroxy-3′,5′-dimethoxyisoflavone (piscigenin), 2R,3R-epicatechin, syringic acid, 2,6-dimethoxybenzoquinone, 2,6-dimethoxyhydroquinone, syringic and ferulic aldehyde, a mixture of vanillic acid, 1-hydroxy-2-methoxy-4-(1E-3-hydroxy-1-propenyl)-benzene and 3,5-dimethoxy-4-hydroxy-dihydrocinamaldehyde, besides amenthoflavone and 7-O-methylamenthoflavone (sequoiaflavone) which are considered as chemotaxonomic markers of Ouratea. The structures were identified by IR, 1H- and 13C-NMR and GC-MS, HPLC-MS, besides comparison with literature data. The inhibitory effects of 5,4′-dihydroxy-7,5′,3′-trimethoxyisoflavone, 7,3′-di-O-methylorobol, piscigenin and 7-O-methylamenthoflavone on cytochrome P450-dependent 7-ethoxycoumarin O-deethylase (ECOD) and glutathione S-transferase (GST) were evaluated in vitro. The 5,4′-dihydroxy-7,5′,3′-trimethoxy-isoflavone was the best inhibitor, inhibiting almost 75% of GST activity. Sequoiaflavone was the most potent inhibitor, inhibiting ECOD assay in 75%. These activities allow us to consider both these flavonoids as potential anticancer and chemopreventive agents

    Ant genera identification using an ensemble of convolutional neural networks

    Works requiring taxonomic knowledge face several challenges, such as arduous identification of many taxa and an insufficient number of taxonomists to identify a great deal of collected organisms. Machine learning tools, particularly convolutional neural networks (CNNs), are then welcome to automatically generate high-performance classifiers from available data. Supported by the image datasets available at the largest online database on ant biology, the AntWeb (www.antweb.org), we propose here an ensemble of CNNs to identify ant genera directly from the head, profile and dorsal perspectives of ant images. Transfer learning is also considered to improve the individual performance of the CNN classifiers.     Gender, sexual orientation and health behaviors in the ELSA-Brasil cohort

    This study aimed to investigate differences in health behaviors as a function of gender and sexual orientation in the ELSA-Brasil cohort. Data were collected using a multidimensional questionnaire on health-related behaviors. The sample consisted of 10,314 participants, each of whom was in a stable relationship. Individuals in same-sex relationships were more likely to smoke, to spend more of their leisure-time in front of a screen and to sleep longer. When the behaviors were analyzed as a function of sexual orientation and gender, women in heterosexual relationships were less likely to smoke or to drink in excess, got more hours of sleep and spent less leisure time in front of a screen. On the other hand, they were less likely to exercise. These findings should contribute towards preventing chronic diseases and promoting health in people with different sexual orientations in Brazil and in other similar settings

    A dificuldade no controle de capim amargoso com o herbicida glyphosate gera a necessidade da utilização de outros herbicidas para um manejo adequado da espécie. Assim sendo, objetivou-se com o presente trabalho avaliar o controle de Digitaria insularis (capim-amargoso) por meio de combinações de herbicidas de diferentes mecanismos de ação. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos ao acaso, com 22 tratamentos e 4 repetições. Os herbicidas foram aplicados quando as plantas estavam com altura próxima a 80 cm. Os resultados mostraram que o herbicida Select foi o graminicida que apresentou melhor níveis de controle para a espécie. Com relação às misturas dos graminicidas com os latifolicidas, verificou-se que pode haver antagonismo entre eles. A possibilidade desta ocorrência foi mais evidente para as misturas Targa + Finale; Targa + Gramocil e Podium + Gramocil; Panther + Gramocil e Podium + Classic

    Carnívoros (Mammalia, Carnivora) do Quaternário da Serra da Bodoquena, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil

    A report on fossil remains of carnivores from the Quaternary of Serra da Bodoquena (Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil), recovered from two limestone flooded caves, is presented. A total of six species could be identified belonging to three carnivore families, namely Felidae (Smilodon populator, Panthera onca, Leopardus braccatus), Canidae (Protocyon troglodytes, Chrysocyon brachyurus) and Mustelidae (Pteronura brasiliensis), a mosaic of extinct and extant species presumably related to the Holo-Pleistocene fauna of the region. These findings support in part previous suggestions of a paleoecological scenario of open savannas rich in wetlands for the Quaternary environment of Serra da Bodoquena.Uma primeira apreciação relativa aos fragmentos fósseis de carnívoros do Quaternário da Serra da Bodoquena (Mato Grosso do Sul, Brasil) é apresentada. A amostra analisada foi recuperada em duas cavernas submersas e, presumivelmente, representam depósitos de origem associada ao intervalo entre Pleistoceno inferior e o Holoceno. Esta hipótese é corroborada pela megafauna de mamíferos associada. Seis espécies puderam ser identificadas, compreendendo três famílias de Carnívora: Felidae (Smilodon populator, Panthera onca, Leopardus braccatus), Canidae (Protocyon troglodytes, Chrysocyon brachyurus) e Mustelidae (Pteronura brasiliensis), retratando, assim, um mosaico de espécies recentes e extintas da fauna de carnívoros que compõem a região. Estes achados suportam parcialmente sugestões anteriores de um cenário paleoecológico de savanas ricas em áreas úmidas para o Quaternário da Serra da Bodoquena
