Holstein-friesian ineklerde prepartal vitamin ve iz element takviyelerinin postpartum 14. günde toplam antioksidan ve oksidan durumları ve meme sağlığı parametreleri üzerine etkileri
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of prepartally injections of antioxidants on total antioxidant
status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS) and udder health parameters on day 14 postpartum in Holstein-Friesian
cows. Sixty-eight multiparous cows were divided into treatment (TRE; n=33) and control (CON; n=35) groups.
Injections of vitamins (A, D and E) and trace elements (Se, Cu, Zn and Mn) were administered intramuscularly to
cows into the TRE group on 21±5 and 10±5 days prepartum. Blood and milk samples were collected to evaluate
beta-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA), TAS, TOS and udder health (somatic cell count (SCC), total bacterial count
(individual bacteria count (IBC) and colony formation unit (CFU)). TAS levels were higher in the TRE group
than the CON group. And TOS levels were lower in the TRE group than the CON group (P<0.001). Cows in
the TRE group had lower SCC than the cows in the CON group (p=0.042). In conclusion, prepartally
supplements of antioxidants were effectively reduced levels of serum TOS and SCC and increased levels of serum
TAS. But, it was detected that it did not affect on IBC and CFU levels.
Subclinical mastitis (SCM) is a serious disease of farm animals. There are many studies on SCM that aim to make
the diagnosis practical, economical and reliable. It was the aim of the present study comparison of epidermal
growth factors (EGF) ratios in animals with and without subclinical mastitis as an indictor of SCM in Anatolian
water buffaloes. A study was carried out in a total of on 35 milk samples from 20 healthy and 15 mastitic
mammary quarters of clinical healthy and nonpregnant buffaloes. Samples were examined using California
mastitis test (CMT) as cow side test to detect of SCM before being transferred to the laboratory. Microbiological
culture was also performed to determine bacterial contamination. Level of EGF and somatic cell count (SCC) was
determined in all samples. As a result of the comparison of the EGF concentration between the SCM (+) and
SCM (-) groups, the SCM (+) group was found to be higher than the SCM (-) group. EGF tests may be a useful
tool in determining subclinical mastitis.
EGF testlerinin subklinik
mastitisin belirlenmesinde yararlı bir araç olabileceği kanısına varılmıştır
The effects of dry-off therapy on milk somatic cell count in saanen goats
WOS: 000365143900006The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of dry-off antibiotic therapy and teat sealant on somatic cell count (SCC) in Saanen goats. The goats were randomly divided into 3 groups. In Groups I (n = 50) and II (n = 50), the goats were treated with intramammary antibiotics and a combination of intramammary antibiotics and internal teat sealant at dry-off, respectively. The animals in Group III (n = 50) were designated as the control group. For the SCC analysis and bacteriological examination, milk samples (n = 900) were collected separately from each udder half during routine morning milking, prior to drying off, and at months 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 of following lactation. The pretreatment prevalence of intramammary infection at dry-off was 4.7% (7/150) for halves. Isolated pathogens were coagulase-negative staphylococci (57.1%) and S. aureus (42.9%) from infected halves. Dry-off antibiotic and dry-off antibiotic with teat sealant therapy reduced milk SCC levels significantly (P 0.01). In conclusion, intramammary antibiotics administered alone and a combination of intramammary antibiotics and teat sealant reduced milk SCC levels significantly
Effects of subclinical mastitis on milk somatic cells and milk vitamin C levels in cows
In this study, it was aimed to determine the levels of Vit C in milk and milk cells of subclinical mastitic cows. Somatic cell count was determined in the quarter milk samples of all animals and the groups were scored control (1-87 x 1000 cells), mastitic 1st group (154-380 x 1000 cells), 2nd group (418-812 x 1000 cells), 3rd group (914-1928 x 1000 cells) and 5th group (2614-8050 x 1000 cells) (n=12). Milk serum and milk cell Vitamin C levels were determined and the correlation between Vitamin C levels and somatic cell count were evaluated. Also microbiological diagnosis was conducted. In subclinical mastitic milks, Vitamin C levels (µg/106 cell) were lower compared to control group (p<0,001) and positive correlation was determined between milk cell Vitamin C levels and somatic cell count (r=0,469, p<0,001 n=60). As regards milk serum, Vitamin C levels were lower in the 5th group compared to the other mastitic (p<0,05) and control groups (p>0,05). There was a negative correlation between milk serum Vitamin C levels and somatic cell count (r=-0,420, p<0,01 n=60). In conclusion, it was found that somatic cell count was elevated with the mastitis levels, gradually, Vitamin C levels per cell and in milk serum decreased in mastitis. It is also found that there was a correlation between Vitamin C levels and mastitis
