Chiral freedom and electroweak symmetry breaking
Antisymmetric tensor fields with chiral couplings to quarks and leptons may
induce spontaneous electroweak symmetry breaking in a model without a
``fundamental'' Higgs scalar. No microscopic local mass term for the chiral
tensors or ``chirons'' is allowed by the symmetries and our model exhibits only
dimensionless couplings. However, the chiral couplings are asymptotically free
and therefore generate a mass scale where they grow large. We argue that at
this scale mass terms for the chiral tensor fields are generated
non-perturbatively - the chirons appear as new massive spin one particles.
Furthermore a scalar top-antitop condensate forms, giving mass to the weak
gauge bosons and fermions. In this scenario the longstanding gauge hierarchy
problem finds a solution similar to the mass generation in QCD. We compute the
general form of the effective action for the chiral tensors and sketch several
possibilities of their detection at LHC or through precision tests of the
electroweak standard model.Comment: 30 pages, 7 figure

Assessment of Heavy Metals Pollution in Dumpsites in Ilorin Metropolis
Speciation and distribution of heavy metals in soil controls the degree to which metals and their compounds are mobile, extractable, and plant available. Eight strategically located dumpsites in Ilorin metropolis (an averagely growing city and a state capital) were chosen for dumpsites-soil characteristics study. Both the estimated total and potentially available metals were studied using EPA 1311 and Tessier’s et al methods respectively. It wasobserved that the groundwater is vulnerable to contamination as no treated basement to adsorb toxic metals was provided for in the sites. About 70% of Mn, Fe, Zn, Cd and Pb were found in the exchangeable bound to carbonate and bound to iron/manganese oxide fractions. These fractions represent the mobile and lethal portion of the total metals to the ecosystem. The metal enrichment factor revealed that Zn, Cd and Pb were of anthropogenic source while Fe is of natural and anthropogenic sources. The dumpsites in Ilorin, therefore pose negative consequences on the soil and groundwater environmen
The Effects of Islamic Spiritual Activities on Psycho-Physiological Performance
In Islam, spiritual activities such as taubah and zikir are very common to the Muslim Ummah and these are generally performed to the perfection of individuals mind. In addition, it is believed that through these activities a connection can be made with the Almighty. Therefore, reasonably after the performance of these activities the psychophysiological performance of the respondents will be changed significantly. This significant change is traceable with the aid of GSR and HRV biofeedback. In this study, it is observed that remarkable changes of GSR percentage and accumulated coherence score of HRV among the 18 respondents due to the consequences of spiritual activities. Thus, it is possible to say that to make the positive changes of psychophysiological activities of any individuals spiritual activities may considered as a substantial stimuli in psychophysiological research. Komunikasi Antarbudaya Studi Negosiasi Wajah dalam Interaksi Etnik Batak dan Etnik Minang di Duri Kelurahan Gajah Sakti Kecamatan Mandau Kabupaten Bengkalis
Indonesian society is a plural society. This pluralism is made up of diverse national backgrounds in tribes, religions, races and classes. In addition to this every culture also has certain characteristics such as differences in language, customs, and habits, food and norms and values are believed. This makes the two ethnics in the city Duri ethnic Batak and ethnic Minang require to be able to adapt to different cultures. In the process of daily interaction the differences between ethnic Batak and ethnic Minang cause misunderstandings occur in everyday interactions seen from the form Facework seen from the negotiation of the face of each ethnic. This study aims to determine the forms of intercultural communication facework between ethnic batak and ethnic Minang when interacting in their daily life as well as ethnic conflict management in facial rescue to maintain their respective cultural identity in the city of Duri Kelurahan Gajah Sakti, Mandau District Bengkalis District. This research uses qualitative method with Phenomenology approach by Alfred Schutz. The location of this research is in Duri City of Gajah Sakti Village, Mandau Sub-district, Bengkalis Regency. Informants in this study amounted to ten people and determined by purposive technique. Data collection techniques used in the form of observation, interview and documentation. In achieving the validity of the data in this study, the authors use extension of participation and triangulation. The results of this study indicate that the intercultural interactions that.occur between ethnic Batak and ethnic Minang show accommodative behavior in the form of Facework through facial negotiation in the form of verbal and nonverbal when interacting in ethnic batak ethnic and ethnic Minang. Intercultural communication of ethnic Batak and ethnic Minang also experience obstacles such as cultural barriers, parangliustik, different perceptions and different nonverbal habits. These barriers are resolved through conflict managem
External Inversion, Internal Inversion, and Reflection Invariance
Having in mind that physical systems have different levels of structure we
develop the concept of external, internal and total improper Lorentz
transformation (space inversion and time reversal). A particle obtained from
the ordinary one by the application of internal space inversion or time
reversal is generally a different particle. From this point of view the
intrinsic parity of a nuclear particle (`elementary particle') is in fact the
external intrinsic parity, if we take into account the internal structure of a
particle. We show that non-conservation of the external parity does not
necessarily imply non-invariance of nature under space inversion. The
conventional theory of beta-decay can be corrected by including the internal
degrees of freedom to become invariant under total space inversion, though not
under the external one.Comment: 15 pages. An early proposal of "mirror matter", published in 1974.
This is an exact copy of the published paper. I am posting it here because of
the increasing interest in the "exact parity models" and its experimental
consequence
Utilization of Milk Processing by Product (Whey) as Based of Edible Film Making with Glycerol Adding as Plasticizer
Abstract: The research on the utilization of milk processing by product (whey) as based edible film making with glycerol adding as plasticizer has been done. Two thousand milliliters of whey is added to ethanol 95% (1:1) and heated to 60°C and then added as much as 1 % of the CMC and then treated with the addition of glycerol as much as 2.5 % (A), 3 % (B), 3.5 % (C), 4 % (D) and 4.5 % (E) in randomized block design with five replications. This research aims to determine the effect of adding glycerol to the characteristics of the edible film. The Variable was observed in this research were the moisture, protein, pH, thickness, viscosity and shelf life of the edible film. Result of the research showed that the higher glycerol plasticizer adding was decreased of moisture and protein content significantly (p<0.01) and increased pH, thickness and shelf life of the edible film. The use of glycerol plasticizer as much as 4 % is the optimum in producing good edible film. Key words: Whey, edible film, plasticizer, glycero
