Slow Solar Magnetosonic Waves And Time Variation In The Solar Neutrino Data

    Get PDF
We analyze the perturbations of the solar magnetic field generated by general solar plasma displacements and investigate their consequences in the left-right conversion probability of neutrinos produced in the Sun. We solve the Hain-Lüst equation and the evolution equations of neutrinos interacting with the solar magnetic field through a nonvanishing neutrino magnetic moment to conclude that the appearance of slow magnetosonic waves (with a period around 100 days) simulate the time behavior of solar neutrino data. © 1995.3574602607Davis, (1990) Proc. of the XXI Int. Influence Of Toroidal Effects On The Stability Of The Internal Kink Mode

    Get PDF
Using the σ-stability technique, we study the stability of the internal kink mode in toroidal geometry. We show that there are two unstable regions separated by a stable one in a β-qc stability diagram. In one of these regions toroidal effects are stabilizing and in the other they are destabilizing. Discrepant results of previous analytical theories and experimental results are explained. © 1978 The American Physical Society.411387087

Nonlinear Excitation Of Ion-acoustic Modes By Rf Waves

We have detected a slow ion-acoustic wave propagating obliquely to the equilibrium magnetic field in a low-density, weakly ionized helium plasma produced by rf power in the linear mirror machine LISA. When an upper hybrid wave is launched perpendicular to the ambient magnetic field, we have observed that the upper hybrid wave decays parametrically into another upper hybrid wave and a slow ion-acoustic wave. © 1992 The American Physical Society.45107640764

Effect Of The Magnetic Limiter Current On The Peripheral Chaotic Region Of A Tokamak

    No full text
We considered the Martin-Taylor model for a magnetic limiter of a tokamak. Calculating the Lyapunov exponent and diffusion coefficient we analysed the dependence of the length of the chaotic region at the edge of the tokamak on the magnetic limiter current. Our results indicate that for a large tokamak, operating in a certain range of the shear values, this current can be lowered by as much as one order of magnitude, with respect to the value calculated by Martin and Taylor.36351352

Fractal Diagrams Of Magnetic Field Lines

    No full text
The hamiltonian character of the perturbed magnetic field lines of a confined plasma let them be described by an area-preserving map. We use the fractal diagrams to analyse the destruction of the magnetic field lines of a Reversed Field configuration, when its magnetic configuration is described by a Generalized Standard Map. The fractal diagrams show that the dynamics of the magnetic surfaces is very dependent on the kind of magnetic perturbation, mainly on the number of modes of the perturbative spectrum.6462012201

Large Amplitude Solitons And Double Layers In Multicomponent Dusty Plasmas

    No full text
Supposing that the constituents of dusty plasmas are inertialess electrons, inertialess ions, and an admixture of negatively and positively charged inertial dust grains, and employing the nonlinear multi-fluid dusty plasma equations and Poisson's equation, we have derived dynamical equations for small amplitude nonlinear dust-acoustic waves, as well as the energy integral of a classical particle with a modified Sagdeev potential for large amplitude disturbances. The energy integral is analyzed both analytically and numerically to demonstrate the existence of rarefactive and compressive electrostatic potentials which travel faster than the effective dust-acoustic velocity. Compressive dust-acoustic potential exist only when there is a significant fraction of positively charged dust grains. Furthermore, the four-fluid dusty plasma system also admit double layers.84181183Rao, N.N., Shukla, P.K., Yu, M.Y., (1990) Planet. No full text
The effect of a finite diffusion velocity on the stability of the resistive internal kink and reconnecting modes is investigated. It is shown that the diffusion velocity modifies the growth rate of only the second mode. © 1981 American Institute of Physics.24236536

Charged Plasma Particle Collision In The Presence Of A Strong Laser Field

    No full text
Starting from a quantum mechanical approach the transition probability between charged particles is transformed to inelastic cross-section. From this a simple and useful approximation is obtained for the multiphoton energy transfer processes which accompany the scattering of a charged particle. Due to the plasma potential in the presence of a strong laser field, an effective collision frequency is found. The amplitude of the electron oscillatory velocity v o in the radiation field is assumed to exceed the electron thermal velocity vte. Under these conditions, the absorption rate is independent of the initial distribution function and depends only on the photon flux intensity. The calculated effective collision frequency can be scaled as Ip, where the p-parameter is in the range of - 0.5<p≤0.5. Our results are compared with those of other formalisms and experimental results.6141194120

Electromagnetic Properties Of A Chiral-plasma Medium

    No full text
The theoretical properties of a composite chiral-plasma medium are developed. Using the reaction theorem, we obtain the proof of nonreciprocity based upon the constitutive relationships between the electromagnetic vectors E→, B→, H→, D→. Using the Maxwell's equations and the proposed constitutive relations for a chiral-plasma medium, we derive the E→ and H→ vector equations and from these equations, dispersion relations and E→-field polarizations are found.1211418Jaggard, D.L., Liu, J.C., Sun, X., (1991) Electron. Coronal Loop Heating By Discrete Alfvén Waves

    No full text
We have modeled the solar coronal active loop heating by discrete Alfvén waves. Discrete Alfvén waves (DAW) are a new class of Alfvén waves which can be described by the two-fluid model with finite ion-cyclotron frequency, or the MHD model with plasma current along the magnetic field line as shown by Appert, Vaclavik, and Villar (1984). We have modeled the coronal loop as a semi-toroidal plasma with the major toroidal radius much larger than the plasma radius. We have shown that the absorption of discrete Alfvén waves by the plasma through viscosity can account for at least 30% of the coronal heating rate density of 10-4 J m-3 s-1. © 1991 Kluwer Academic Publishers.136229530
